China owns the United States…

…and plans to send her to the scrapyard.

Hate to see that happen.   I used to spend quite a bit of time in Philadelphia and saw the United States when she was first docked there.  It seems a shame that she can’t live on in some useful capacity.  I lived in California when they brought the Queen Mary to Long Beach.  Seemed like a great idea at the time, but I don’t think it has ever proved to be financially viable.

Old ships are invariably destined for the scrapyard, but they live on in our memory and imagination of a bygone era.

Nice video of the United States in her glory days here.

Yoja of the week

yoja3.jpg

You guys are going to have to help me out.  I found this image at Crunchyroll.com where there is a poll of “Top 5 Korean female celebs”.  I liked this image enough to make her our Yoja of the Week, but damned if I can find her name.

I’m I sucker for the knee socks/short skirt look, that’s for sure.

UPDATE:  Thanks to reader Jenn, our mystery Yoja has been identified as Lee Da Hae, the star of “My Girl” and “Hello Miss.”.  This is actually somewhat of a relief, because when I noticed her rather large “Adam’s apple” I was afraid I may have inadvertently posted a “ladyboy” photo…

On treason and global warming

Great post by Walter Russell Mead at The American Interest Online taking the NY Times to task for its late arrival to the conclusion that maybe there was good cause to be skeptical of global warming (blessed be thy name) science after all.  It’s a pretty important piece, not so much for whether or not man is causing the planet to warm, but that our press has lost what we depend on most–skepticism.

Of the two, I’d say a compliant and unquestioning media is the more immediate threat to life on Earth.

Would you buy a used car from this man?

The things you get in email…

When I was 13, I hoped that one day I would have a girlfriend with big
tits.

When I was 16 I got a girlfriend with big tits, but there was no passion,
so I decided I needed a passionate girl with a zest for life.

In college I dated a passionate girl, but she was too emotional. Everything
was an emergency; she was a drama queen, cried all the time and threatened
suicide. So I decided I needed a girl with stability.

When I was 25 I found a very stable girl but she was boring. She was
totally predictable and never got excited about anything. Life became so
dull that I decided that I needed a girl with some excitement.

When I was 28 I found an exciting girl, but I couldn’t keep up with her.
She rushed from one thing to another, never settling on anything. She did
mad impetuous things and made me miserable as often as happy. She was
great fun initially and very energetic, but directionless. So I decided to
find a girl with some real ambition.

When I turned 30, I found a smart ambitious girl with her feet planted
firmly on the ground, so I married her. She was so ambitious that she
divorced me and took everything I owned.

I am older and wiser now, and I am looking for a girl with big tits.

What are the odds?

So, I finally got around to getting an iPod.  Hey, I wanted to be sure it wasn’t just a passing fad, ok?  Anyway, my pal Tom shared his song library with me and they now reside on said iPod.  Over 22,000 of them.

So, just now I’m getting ready to climb on the treadmill and I sat the iPod on shuffle.  And what song do you think came up first?

Long Time Gone.  I figured that odd coincidence was worthy of a blog.

So, I suppose to answer my question, the odds of that happening are one in over 22,000.

Is my life amazing or what?

High and tight

Jim Bunning is still throwing the heat.  And the Dems aren’t liking the chin music.

Although it may appear that Bunning is a solitary voice in opposition to uncontrolled spending, Nancy Pelosi admits his action is bipartisan.  Sort of.

I remember watching Bunning pitch back in the mid-60’s with the Phillies.  He threw a perfect game against the Mets, and also threw a no-hitter in the American League with Detroit.  Finished his baseball career in with the Dodgers in 1969, although he was just about out of gas by then.

What is it?

No, it has nothing to do with the love/hate relationship between Korean and Japan.  In fact, it has nothing to do with whatever your sick mind has been thinking.

Look again, it is the sun rising behind a traditional Japanese house.  It is the logo for the Institute of Oriental Studies.

Geez people.  Get a grip.
