I think my memory must be as bad as yours! LOL I thought I had read (or at least inferred) that Mary was making cookies for you to hand out, so was surprised to see prepackaged goodies. I re-read that post and saw that she has a side business selling snacks/cookies.
There is usually a tendency to look at the past with rose colored glasses. The past was probably never as good as we think and the present is probably not as bad as we think.

The feedback you got your Filipino lady friend is in line with what I thought the girls there think of you. You may think it is all in good fun, but they see someone who is a “butterfly” in the relationship game.
As Kevin said, your thoughts and actions are not in alignment. Either move your thoughts towards your actions or move your actions towards your thoughts.

Random thoughts that somewhat tie in to her giving you the cold shoulder. I may have said this previously in response to an earlier post of yours, but there definitely is a double standard with the number of girls a guy is with vs. the number of guys a girl is with and thoughts thereof.Although you probably don’t see yourself this way, I bet that most of the girls you come in contact with in your little burg see you as a player. One girl one night, a different one the next week, etc. As you mentioned, in a small town, everyone knows your business. With that type of reputation, most/all ladies will hesitate to get to know you on anything other than a superficial level.
If the shoe is on the other foot, what would you thoughts be of some girl who was with (or went home with) a different guy every couple of weeks. Would you see her as someone to get to know on a deeper level? Doubtful, right?
In the “Life of John” book, I am rooting for you in this latest relationship chapter, but I fear that this is not the concluding chapter, but just another page turner until the next chapter begins.

LOL I was going to say the exact same thing that Kevin did about the noodle dish. Pick a country in SE Asia, and they have a very similar dish, with only the name being different.
Probably wouldn’t matter, but I wonder what the law in the Philippines says about beach access. Even if it were technically legal to be able to access the beach, does not seem like a battle to fight.

I clicked on the link in this post to the old 2006 post and there was a hyperlink in there to an older post. Well, that hyperlink took me to the above mentioned site. LOL

I am kind of with Kevin on this relationship possibility with Mary. But, you are two consenting adults (albeit of different ages), so hopefully both of you are going in this with eyes wide open. In your case, make sure that the big head does the thinking, and not the little head. LOL

Re: the sunset. Maybe it is only me, but I am always intrigued by how fast the sun seems to go down in the tropics. One moment, bright daylight, and the next, dark. Must have to do with the angle of the sun being much more direct as you approach the equator.
Good luck to your nephews on their visa quest. I assume that Josh did it in the PI vs. US so as to have a chance to get a mini vacation in before going to Korea?

@John @Kevin Either of you guys ever eat the live octopus “delicacy”? Had it once on the beach in Busan. Of course, alcohol had been consumed in large quantities prior to trying it. LOL. Read afterwards that a couple people die each year while eating it. I guess the dying octopus gets the last laugh as it chokes the human to death.

I cant find my previous comment on a “girlfriend for hire” possibility, but the gist of it was, go for it.
You are not going to find the unicorn you are looking for in the places you frequent.
Finding a 20 something attractive, sexy, young lady in Barretto that likes you just because you are you isn’t going to happen. You are going to have to offer her something that she cannot get from someone her own age, cultural background, etc and realistically, that “something” is money.
Put a girl on a stipend, lay down the ground rules and it can work. And work very successfully. I would look outside of Barretto.
If you do go on the dating site, be completely honest about what you are looking for.
Describe yourself and say you are looking for a companion. Monthly stipend. Approach it like when you were hiring people in your former life.
Manila is probably your widest pool of applicants. Take a weekend or two, set up some “interviews”, see how it goes.
Of course, you could always change your criteria of what type of lady you are looking for. LOL

BTW, that hot wax thing the Wet Spot girl was doing must have hurt. I guess maybe if you have the candles enough distance from your body, the temp of the wax may be bearable by the time it reaches the skin. :shrug

I have been sucked into the Apple ecosystem and set regular reminders to back up my phone. Restoring data to a new or repaired phone is quite easy. Saved my ass (figuratively, not as @Kevin indicated, literally) a couple of times.
