No, I’m pretty sure she is legit. Actually, her husband works as the cook at Gomans so I know him too. They have 5 kids and I’m sure they aren’t making much money since there aren’t many customers these days.

That’s irksome. I was going to put “on-home” in quotation marks, but if I don’t hit the spacebar after the quote it defaults to the umlaut. I see I didn’t close out the quote either, so there you see two typos in one! I love ice cream though!.

Interesting take on The Stand versions. I’d read them years apart so maybe I just enjoyed the story again despite losing the definitive ending you describe. And yeah, the movie I’m watching isn’t really cutting it. Hell, me commenting on Molly Ringwald’s looks is a dead giveaway!
Good guess on the cause of the shitstorm. I’ve actually always appreciated your love life advice and guidance even though I seem incapable of following it. I’m not sure why I continue to allow myself to get sucked into these unfulfilling relationships that are clearly bound to end in disaster. I fear that at my age it’s a bit late in the game to change my ways but maybe I’ll get lucky next time. I will try to raise my standards some though.
I’m afraid that the Appalachian Trail is beyond my physical capabilities these days. I’ve even swallowed my pride and do the “short” trail at the Hash lately. But yeah, two years into retirement I find the lack of purpose in my life disconcerting. I think perhaps the “horndog” issues stem in part from trying to fill that void. Actually, if I could find the “right one” to share my life I might be satisfied. See? I still haven’t learned! Anyway, good suggestions on things to try. Learning Tagalog would be a plus. Maybe I can find an attractive female tutor. And maybe we’d fall in love. Oh shit, here I go again!

I don’t tend to overthink things (obviously) and existentialism probably never entered my mind until I saw the Sartre video. I doubt I’ll spend much thought on the subject in the future, other than to keep on keeping on.
You know, I have no issues the folks who are sincerely protesting about what they perceive as racism even though I agree with your premise that it is not as black and white as they believe. Rioters and looters should be shown no mercy. Their objectives are very clearly NOT about racial healing.

Well, I skipped a blog day in part because there was nothing compelling to say, but if that were the standard it would be awfully quiet around here. Circumstances and laziness also intervened. The hike started at 0900 and we finished at my place just before noon. My compatriots were thirsty and hungry so I served up some beers and made a quick quesadilla that I served with tortilla chips and salsa. After they left I took a belated nap which caused me to miss my prime blogging window. That’s where the laziness and TV took over. But I’m glad you missed me!
Yeah, the photo gives away the punchline anyway. I kinda thought it would be better verbally too in a double entendre kind of way. But it really doesn’t. “Hey baby, you want to have a one night stand” isn’t how you’d ask for furniture. Ah well, it was a stolen joke anyway.

Brian, oddly enough I hadn’t used the title previously, which may be a sad reflection on my so-called life. And yeah, I only met Derek a couple of weeks ago. But the cigarettes and that bottle of tequila are never out of reach. Not a healthy lifestyle for sure, but his choice.

Brian, yeah as I mentioned in my comment above, getting “drunk-drunk” is a failure on my part. Happens rarely but I always do regret it. I’m lucky if the consequences are limited to sleeping on the floor I suppose.
Yesterday I wasn’t feeling up to the usual sweaty walk which is probably what I needed most. Ah well, I’ll try and make up for it today!

Ah, demon alcohol. I’m not sure if that old saw “everything in moderation” was directed towards the use and abuse of spirits, but it certainly fits. Obviously, I enjoy drinking but I don’t like getting drunk. Once or twice a year I let myself go out of control and always wish I hadn’t. But that’s what you get here at LTG, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Also, the boring repetition that leads a man to drink!
As to your question about the attraction of alcohol, for me at least it’s a social thing. Prior to the lockdown I very rarely drank beer at home. Beer for me is kind of a tool–lowers my inhibitions some and helps me get comfortable enough to carry on conversations with people I don’t know that well. Having a “buzz” is a nice feeling, being drunk is not. Paradoxically, even though I enjoy the bars I don’t like being around drunk people (hence, I could never own a bar). Anyway, maybe there is just a drinking culture that attracts me. Some of my earliest memories are of my father taking me into the beer joints with him while he drank and held court. So I guess maybe it just comes naturally to me.
So all that said, you are right about the risks and dangers of overdoing it. I normally won’t drink until after 5 and I’m usually home by 9 or so (well, at least before there was curfew). I am very much opposed to drinking and driving. Back in the USA I kept a breathalyzer in my car and would always blow before driving after darts to make sure I was under the legal limit. I’m actually disappointed in myself for not interceding with. The bottom line is to drink responsibly, which is something I usually do. The other day was the rare exception.
