Officially yes, but we’ve had very little rain thus far. Last year at this time streets were flooding. I fear we will pay a price for this dry July next month…

Yeah, I agree true charity is more about giving of yourself than opening your wallet. There probably are some organizations here that need volunteers, although most just seem to need/want donations.
When I created my budget here I included funds for charity work. I used to contribute to an orphanage in Olongapo but became convinced the money wasn’t being used for the kids. So I decided to find ways to reach out to people in need directly. Admittedly, that’s been a hit or miss proposition.
I’m down with the “teaching a man to fish” proverb and that really is the ultimate goal. I’d like to find a worthy student to directly sponsor for post-secondary education as opposed to contributing to a scholarship fund. Making a significant difference in a person’s life would be such a beautiful thing to see and do. Perhaps I’d contribute some tutoring and old man advice as part of the package. I actually had a high school student in mind a few months ago but then got the news from the mother that her 17-year-old daughter was now pregnant. And so the cycle of poverty continues in that family.
In the meantime, this pandemic bullshit has lots of people just trying to find ways to eat. That’s where most of my budget has been going of late. Every little bit helps I suppose, but it seems once you are tagged as a person who gives away money the requests never stop.

Ha! I actually didn’t notice her expansive forehead at the time I was standing there with her. When I first saw the photo, I thought it might be the angle of the shot or my camera playing tricks. But no, now I think she might indeed be entitled to the coveted PFP!

Thanks, guys. Had a better night last night and that feels like progress. As for taking a break–yeah, I had been pretty anal about reaching my daily step goal. Lately though, Sundays have become less intensive. In part because of the quarantine and also a default date day with Jessa. I guess I should just stop feeling guilty about it and call it a day of rest.

Well, that all actually made sense. I’d call that progress! Breaking out the twenty-minute part as a stand-alone sentence makes the comma placement need much more obvious.

I tried. I really did. Went back and read and then re-read your post about commas in an introductory expression. Schulz has the comma after “It’s 1 a.m.” which seems correct to me. And that’s where my confusion arises–can there be more than one introductory expression in a sentence? That seems like a contradiction in terms to me.
Still, I know you wouldn’t send me off on a wild goose chase. Hence, there must be a missing comma somewhere. The only place I’d consider adding one would be after “minutes”. Did I get lucky?

I’m not aware of anyone dying on trail, and I have asked that question. Other than some cuts and bruises (I got stitches once) I guess the most serious events have been people getting lost and stuck out in the wild overnight.

Kev, I think the video of my performance was blocked as offensive content. I’m not sure why that song became my go-to in the norebangs, I guess I just like trying to try and imitate that Gibb voice. It was touching to read that Robin’s son played that song for his father right after he died.
Brian, interesting question. Gave me a headache contemplating the answer. Best I’ve got is that there are 3 words that sound like 2 in English.

I don’t want to overstate the rejection thing by making it out to be a big deal. It really isn’t, but when I meet someone who seems to trip my triggers and it isn’t mutual, well, that’s certainly disappointing.
As I’m sure you know in quite a few bars around here when you ask a gal out the answer is always yes…it’s just about negotiating the price. But I do get your point,

Kev, yep I’m optimistic and reasonably certain I will get fooled again. And while the bars may be open they have not returned to life. I’ll post more about that soon.
Frank, oddly enough pesky insects have really not been a problem here. The dog might pick up an occasional tick but I’ve never had one bite me. In fact, the only thing on trail that has been a nuisance is ants. They are everywhere–on the ground and in the shrubs. Sometimes they get on you as you make your way through the brush but they don’t bite hard and are easily flicked away or squashed. Even the mosquitos have not been a big deal which was really a surprise.

Just for the record, I had that comma in the original post. Then I noticed I had “waking” instead of “walking”. For some reason, when I added the “l” it deleted the letter next to it. Rather than rewrite the whole paragraph I sacrificed the comma.

Brian, I hope you are right. Given the typically lax enforcement of laws here I expect things will gradually slip into a common-sense zone. I think the real issue will be how many places can actually stay in business without the tourist trade.

Kev, I’m no chef. Probably “food warmer” best describes what I do in the kitchen. I buy the meatballs pre-made at Royal’s deli. I put them in the crockpot with some Italian seasoning, then add a couple of jars of pasta sauce. Then I let them simmer for a few hours. I usually don’t eat them with spaghetti, just put a little cheese on top and that’s my meal. I like them though!

Not likely. I lost contact with the guy who got me Buddy now. Interestingly, this female dog that hangs out in the neighborhood looks a lot like Buddy’s mom and he goes crazy when he sees her.

I’ve been using a meat tenderizer and marinated this batch in oil and vinegar. I’ve had tougher and these were thicker than normal. Thanks for the link, I need some new ideas!
