What a day in the life looks like

Commenter Starbuck recently requested: “I’d like more slice-of-life content: what you do at home, daily pictures of your breakfast, the contents of your grocery basket, and so on.” Ask and ye shall receive, as boring as it may be. Here’s the play-by-play for yesterday:

My Tuesday began after a 5:24 a.m. wake-up.

Actually the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a while.

I made myself a cup of black coffee and plopped down at my desk to see what was happening in the world via the magic of the internet.

The morning view outside the window above my desk.
Let’s see what’s going on.

In the comments on my blog, Dr. Greg shared this AI creation. I thought it was funny and I’m secure enough in my masculinity and orientation to have not been bothered by it.

So, I visited on the usual places: Althouse, Hairy Chasms, Hot Air, Instapundit, PowerLine, and ROK Drop. Also checked the email and some of the PI-centric forums I’m a member of.

An hour or so later, I moved into the kitchen to perform one of my Tuesday morning rituals, baking breakfast muffins.

Before…
…and after.

Then at 7:30, it was time for a shower and a shave.

All dressed up and ready to roll.

A couple more morning rituals to tackle:

Downing my morning meds…
…and checking my blood pressure.

Tuesday is grocery shopping day.

Muffins for my driver and the parking attendant at YBC grocery stroe.
My driver arrived on schedule for our 8:15 departure.
Nice to see you, Kuya Bong.
On the highway to Olongapo City.
First stop was the BPI branch at Harbor Pointe Mall for an ATM withdrawal. Once again, my US card was declined and I got a “fraud alert” message from my bank. I’ve repeatedly told them that attempts to withdraw cash are legitimate, but it never changes.
Next stop, YBC Supermarket.

This is where we stock up on the cookies, candies, and lollipops we hand out to the kiddies and bargirls during our walks and barhops.

Two grocery carts worth of goodness.
Ringing it up. 8,441 pesos this week.
Rolling it all out to the car.
Then it was on to Royal for the rest of the groceries. We arrived right at the 9:00 a.m. opening.
Only one shopping cart for our Royal purchases.
But it wasn’t cheap.
Another week’s worth of shopping loaded up and ready to roll.
Heading for home.

I made a video of the drive back to Barretto, but somehow the orientation was sideways. I tried like a dickens to find a way to turn it around, but this is the best I could do. I am open to suggestions on what the fix is in this situation.

Oh, well. I got dropped off at Dr. Jo’s for my weekly GLP1 injection. I arrived at 9:45 and she wasn’t there yet, so I went into Angel’s Bakery downstairs and had a cup of coffee while I waited.

My coffee.
Dr. Jo arrived at 10 a.m., right on time.
There was one patient ahead of me, so I spent a few minutes in the waiting room.

My turn came, I got stuck in the belly with the needle, stepped on the scale, and showed no weight loss (or gain) since last week. Next week I get the larger dose of Mounjaro.

Then I walked back to house to get some steps in.

That’s the gate to Alta Vista up ahead.
And my place on Bryce Street.

When I got home, it was around 11 a.m., so I sat down at my desk and began scrolling through the LTG archives, looking for a post worthy of inclusion in “The Story of My Life.” Man oh man, every day is just the same old scene: hikes in the mornings and bars at night. Heh, just like now. Still, every once in a while, there’s a post with something a little more interesting; it’s just a chore to find it. And then I move on to the search for the daily YouTube video to share on the blog.

Swan brought me a ham and cheese sandwich to snack on while I slaved away on the computer. That’s the half I didn’t eat. I’ve been doing better at eating less volume, even if I’m not necessarily eating healthy.

At 12:30 p.m. I took my daily nap, then got up an hour later and put together yesterday’s blog post about the Hash. That took a little over an hour.

With the “work” out of the way, I had some play time, filling the next hour with some online solitaire.

And finally, it was time to get ready for our beer o’clock activities. I loaded up my bag with candy, cookies, and lollipops, then we headed out to Barretto around 4:15.

Our first stop was the pool bar at the Outback Resort.
The beach view from Outback.

Then we moved inside to the Outback Billabong Bar.

It’s actually very nice inside and Swan and I agreed we need to visit here more often.
My motivation yesterday was to get in some pool practice in preparation for my participation in tonight’s 9-Ball tournament at Alaska Club.
That’s me trying to get my shit together.
That’s Abby, my waitress opponent. We played three games, she won two.

Anyway, it was a very enjoyable visit to the Outback Bar. We dispensed some candy and cookies to the gals, which they seemed to appreciate. Then, around 6:30, we headed to Mango’s for some dinner.

It wasn’t very busy, but a couple of other diners came in during our visit.
The bay at night has a different kind of beauty.
As usual, we enjoyed our grilled pork chop dinner. That’s actually half a order, Swan and I share (there are two pork chops) and the waiter brings our food on separate plates.

After our meal, it was Swan’s turn to pick a destination. As we left Mango’s her shoe came apart (shoes she had just bought that morning at Royal), so we popped into a sari-sari store and bought some glue.

So, Swan had to hoof it down the highway barefoot.
Our initial plan was to visit Wet Spot. Once we were inside, we learned that our regular Hash friend waitress Beth was not working. There was also an unfriendly guy I know there, so we moved on next door to Rum Jungle.
Chu, our regular waitress, was happy to see us.
For the commenter who wanted photos of the bar dancers, here’s one I snuck of the two gals on stage at Rum Jungle last night.

We enjoyed our visit to Rum Jungle, but wanted one more place to go for our nightcap.

Voodoo was just across the street, so off we went.
The Voodoo dance crew.

There were a couple of big spenders buying bottled lady drinks at 350 pesos each, so that took the pressure off me to participate. I’d just bought three singles at 180 pesos each at Rum Jungle. But I have no complaints about Voodoo this visit, and hopefully, they’ll continue to do well.

We noticed that Donald Trump was keeping his eye on things at Voodoo.

Grabbed a trike out front and headed for home a little after 9 p.m.

I made a batch of strawberry-banana smoothies and shared them with Swan’s sister and neice.

A little more internet and solitaire time, then I was off to bed.

Evidence of how close I came to making it all the way to 10 p.m.

And there you have it, Starbuck: a detailed account of how I rolled through another day in the life. It may not be much, but I enjoy my life and hope I can keep living it on my terms.

I moved on to October 2022 in the LTG archives and wrote about what was an unusually crazy day in my little town: a suicide, a stabbing, and an attempted robbery. Thankfully, nothing like that has happened since—not all on the same day, at least.

Today’s YouTube video is about a Brit killing a Yank in Panglao, Bohol. Damn, that’s two murders there in the past month. I really enjoyed my recent visit, but I guess that, wherever you go, you need to stay on guard.

Time out for this crap:

Just in case anything I write here offends you, here’s a handy form you can use to file a complaint.
Hmm, no worries. I’m not a gay old man. Not that there’s anything wrong with it.
I think I vaguely remember her giving me a hand back in the day.

Alright, I hope this post doesn’t fall into the “TMI” category, but at least now you know what a Tuesday is like around here. Now, it is time to get ready for my first ever 9-ball tourney! I have very low expectations, but hopefully I won’t embarrass myself.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it’s sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I’d something more to say

  1. Wow thanks, John! I didn’t know your days were so active, so I apologize for all the time it must have taken to prepare this post. That said, seems you are having a truly wonderful time over there. God bless you and Trump and your Filipino family.

  2. Maybe a delicate question, but is Dr Jo a man?
No condemnation here. Sometimes it is nice to get the brain power of a guy and delicate touch of a gal when seeing a medical professional.
Just keep “her” away from Little John!
