That’s how you do it!

I’d say we pulled off a damn fine Hash trail yesterday. Came in at around 6K with two hills, or one hill and a street walk for the lazy ones. Got good feedback from most of the twenty or so people who did the hike. That’s always gratifying.

As one of the Hares, I was out marking the trail in the morning prior to the noon start. It took a little over two hours. I then went home and showered up and headed over to the On-Home at Queen Victoria a little after 1:00. I was surprised to see Leech My Nuggets already there. So, he did the entire trail in about an hour and fifteen minutes. He’s fast, but that’s still impressive. The next arrivals were at least twenty minutes behind him. As usual, I’ll recount the day through photos (some mine, some Scott’s, and some from Hashers on the trail):

My fellow Hares, Pubic Head, with the chalk and…
…Blow My Pipe with the powder. I carried the shredded paper.
Our trail in all its glory…
Hashers gathering for the start…
And then it is On-On!
Where the going up starts.
A quick time-out while I deliver some cookies…
A harder climb than it appears.
I made it!
Blow My Pipe doesn’t seem impressed.
One view from the top…
…and another.
Poser…
On the Great Wall of Barretto.
A Kodak moment…
There were bridges to cross…
And cows to avoid.
Oops! Who let the cows out? One of the Hashers said she got chased.
Are we there yet?
Movin’ on out…
The lonely lives of the Hares…
You first!
A Filipina in the woods…
Hey, there she is again!
Coming down…
Never give up!
A sure sign of a well-marked trail…
I wonder if there are bears in these woods?
Back at the On-Home, the Hares sat on ice along with the Hashers who admitted liking the trail. Thanks, guys!
I sat on the ice again later when I received recognition for 50 consecutive Hash runs. Of course, with the travel bans there ain’t no other place I can go, but still…
Once the Hash circle was completed, I crossed the street to my hangout at Mango’s. Had me some roast chicken and coleslaw for dinner.
The bay was calm…
The beach was empty…
And the sun was going down. So I headed my drunk self home…
…and arrived in time to see the sunset. I went to bed shortly thereafter. It was a long day.
And that’s it for this Hash post.

  1. So there were asses on ice. Gives new meaning to the adverbial locution “cheek to cheek.” Anyway, congrats on a most excellent Hash. Too bad you get punished for saying you liked the route.

  2. Who is the tall Filipina standing on the “great wall”. I have seen her in your other posts on hikes, but you never mention her. Kind of attractive.

  3. Kev, the Subic H3 motto is “it’s nice on ice” so maybe punishment is too strong a word. I don’t enjoy sitting my ass down on it though. Still, it makes the compliments more sincere I reckon.

Terry, you noticed her too, huh? She is amazing looking. I’d reckon her to be close to six feet tall which makes her a giant amongst Filipinas. I don’t know much about her other than she’s married and lives on the old Navy base with her husband who’s also a Hasher but hasn’t attended recently. She always catches my eye though and I enjoy walking behind her on trail. I sometimes tell the small Filipinas there is only one thing better than long legs wrapped around your back–short legs trying! Now I’m not so sure.

  4. The trails this time look great. Just difficult enough to really work those muscles, and high enough to get the wonderful views of the area. The perfect weather worked too. I wonder if all you are permanently a few shades tanner living in the tropics with all the heat like that. As you mentioned, the locals fear the sun turning them brown but your expat friends don’t cover up so by now I suspect they look like bronzed musclemen on Virginia beach.

Thanks for clearing that up. The tall lady is striking in her dedication to the hash.
I had initially thought that was your recent ex(the one with the boyfriend who bought her a house), but I wasn’t sure. But then you having two exes to hash with on a weekly basis might have been awkward so that’s a relief.

    Keep walking,

I support your starting another hash group, the Alta Vista walkers. You wouldn’t have to stop joining in on the main one, but it would increase your daily steps and reduce your drinking.
To balance out your drinking, you may go ahead and start another dart league and grow it as big as possible. You can make sure the times don’t clash with your hikes , and it would dovetail nicely into your sunset drinking.

  5. Thanks, James. Yeah, the advantage to being a Hare is making the kind of trail you like. I would guess most of the Hash participants like to avoid extremes as well.

Yeah, the gal you mention hasn’t been there recently but she will probably come next week for the anniversary run. Oh well, all my ex’s don’t live in Texas so shit happens. 🙂

Well, I wouldn’t call it a Hash, but our Wednesday and Friday gatherings are almost always a good time! And we usually finish at Cheap Charlies for rehydration purposes.
