Bay cruising

Another year, another Anniversary Hash Run.

Today’s departure for the Hash trail is at eleven fuckin’ a.m., so I’m going to rush this post and get my ass ready to roll. We’re taking a bus ride out to Naugsol for the start of the trails: the Long Trail, 12K, with a couple of mountain climbs; the Medium Trail, 8K, with a climb to the ridgeline. My trail is of undetermined length, but I’ll be doing a valley walk back to the on-home at the Bella Monte Hotel. You’ll get the whole story in tomorrow’s post.

Now, about my yesterday. We did our Sunday Sweets Street Stroll in the morning. Here’s a video of neighborhood #2 on our route:

And here is the only other photo I took during the stroll:

A scene that captures both the beauty and the culture of the Philippines.

I jest, of course. I did get to experience some real beauty and enjoy new perspectives during a yacht cruise on Subic Bay yesterday. It was a friend’s daughter’s 18th-birthday celebration, and I somehow managed to wrangle an invite. I’ve taken bay tours on a banca boat before, but cruising on a quiet, comfortable vessel was a completely different vibe. Here are some photos I took along the way:

The yacht dock.
The only white guys on the cruise: Chris (it was his stepdaughter’s birthday), Scott, and yours truly.
Me and my gal. That’s the birthday girl in the background.
It’s been a LONG time since I’ve seen a Volkswagen van.
Party supplies ready to board our watercraft.
The yacht that took us.
I was relieved to see our boat wasn’t named the Minnow.
Our skipper. Didn’t see Gilligan.
Beer in hand, and awaiting departure.
She’s such a poser!
Swan doesn’t know how to swim. She asked me, “If the boat were sinking and there was only one life jacket, what would you do?” I responded, “I’d really miss you.” (That’s a joke, of course.)
Us men folk spent the cruise on the upper deck.
That’s the USNS Rappahannock docked at SBMA.
Yep, I managed to get a shot of Easter Mountain.
Cruising without a bruising
That’s as close as we got to Grande Island.
Fire on the mountain!
Snake Island dead ahead.
A zoom shot of Barretto. The big building on the beach is the Central Park Reef Hotel. Those houses on the hill in the back are in my subdivision, Alta Vista.
A view of the Olongapo coast as we head back to the dock.

UPDATE: Here are a few more photos Scott just posted:

The cruisers.
Eating on the water.
I won’t let you fall!
Cheers!

It was a very pleasant journey and a nice change of scenery. Swan and I got dropped off at Red Bar on the way back home and enjoyed some more libations and music. Then we moved on to Voodoo Bar for our nightcap.

For you fans, here is a shot of the Voodoo dance crew.

Since we started so early in the day (my first beer was at 12:30), we were both ready to call it a night at 7:30 and head on home. It was another good day in the life.

Oddly enough, I somehow opened this app on my phone that I didn’t even know I had:

It says I’ll meet my weight goal in January, 1970. I take this as a sign that my “do-over” dream might be coming true!

From the January 2023 LTG archives, I tell the story of the worst date I ever went on. This was a woman I had “met” on Facebook and enjoyed chatting with online. Then we had our first date, and she didn’t want to talk at all. She wouldn’t even order from the menu. I’d never seen anything like that in a lifetime of dating. Obviously, I never asked her out again.

As an epilogue to the story, we remain friends on Facebook. She joined some of the group hikes and even Hashed occasionally, though she was dating another Hasher at the time. A nice enough gal—just not the one for me.

Today’s YouTube video talks about the perils of having a “maid with benefits.” As a retired HR guy, I learned early on that you don’t dip your pen in company ink or fish off the company pier. And there really are risks involved when you treat an employee like a plaything. Yeah, I’ve done the “friends-with-benefits” thing, but I never screwed around with my helpers. I briefly thought about hiring a girlfriend to fill some voids, but I rejected the idea before ever trying it. Sorry for the AI narration, it is getting harder to find videos without it these days. At least the AI maid is attractive.

Now for more of this crap:

I like the way he thinks!
Sorry, Mary. I also don’t believe you were a virgin.
Yeah, I used to hear it all the time: “Ouch! Oh shit!…already?”

And now you know. Thanks for your indulgence.

It’s 1962 in our hit parade. Are you up for some loco-motion?
