That’s a wrap

A crappy picture of the wrap I had for dinner last night. It was surprisingly tasty.

Okay, the last day of my visit to Siargao Island is in the books. I’m still here until my flight departs this afternoon, but the fun in the sun is basically done. I also have to check out of my hotel at 11 a.m., so this post is going to be a quickie. I’ll do a write-up tomorrow outlining my overall impressions of Pacifico. Here’s how we spent our Monday:

We checked out of the Bamboo Hotel and checked into the Onda Hotel, about a block away up the road.

Then we went scouting for a place to eat lunch.
They apparently feature a DJ in the evening hours.
I had sweet and sour chicken, which was just okay. Swan seemed to really enjoy her grilled shrimp, though.

Back to the new room for some R&R, then we headed out for some beach time.

Another nice day. Not a drop of rain the entire trip. Still flooding back home.
Lots of surfers on a Monday afternoon. Waves weren’t as big as they were on Friday.
The Pacifico Beach Bar.
The view from our bar table. I prefer sitting on a bar stool at a bar, but that’s not an option here.
I spent the 70s body surfing at Huntington Beach in California. Not going to push my luck now that I’m in my 70s.
Life’s a beach.

Then it was time to head out in search of some supper.

Swan delivered some sweetness along the way.

We found this hole-in-the-wall place along the highway and decided to give it a try.

The Serai resto was surprisingly nice. The food was excellent, the service prompt and friendly, and they were quite busy during our visit. Wish we’d tried it earlier in our stay.
In addition to the wrap, we shared some baby back ribs. Tender enough to pull off the bone with a fork and had outstanding flavor.

It seems everything closes early in Pacifico, but then, so do I. We were back ensconced in our room before 8 p.m. And that’s how we spent our last full day. Check-out is at 11 a.m. this morning, and our ride to the airport is coming at 1:30. The plane home is scheduled for 5 p.m. and should arrive in Angeles City at 7:30. It’s been a good trip.

From Facebook memories:

13 years ago, we treated my pal Duke Gates to a going-away party at Hooters in Seoul. Hooters is no more, and I haven’t heard from Duke in several years now. And so it goes.
Four years ago, I was forced to get the COVID jab. My three years in the PI on a tourist visa meant I had to leave the country, something I couldn’t do (nor could I return) without a vaccination. Luckily, I did the Sinovac and had no Fauci aftereffects.

On with the March 2021 LTG archives. It’s been interesting for me to read my history again, but most of my posts are about hiking and drinking (just like now). It is nice to relive some of those adventures, but none really stand out. Then I come across a post where I talk about all the desperate women seeking financial assistance and how I dealt with them. It makes me sad now, and I’m ashamed of myself. It seemed fine at the time, but damn, I’m glad I’m not that guy now. At least I hope I’m not.

For today’s YouTube video, the vlogger shares six things that will get you killed in the Philippines. Most of these are on my list of ways I might die here.

And now for today’s dose of lameness:

This seems a little off, Jack.
Talk about finding out the hard way!
Well, at least they can earn money so they won’t have to steal…

Okay, time to wrap up today’s post and prepare for the journey ahead. One of the benefits of getting away is that it makes you appreciate home life all the more. I missed a rainy Hash yesterday, but enjoyed the photos. Here’s one that made me laugh:

On-On! Looking forward to being back on trail next week.
