Never trust AI to assess grammar. Computers are stupid.
As discussed in Part 1 of my series on commas: use a comma-conjunction to separate two independent clauses (a semicolon also performs this function). Let’s analyze your sentence:
“It’s really not that hard getting up, but coming down the backside can get a little tricky.”
Clause 1: It’s [It is]
Clause 2: coming down… can getA clause is a group of words with a subject and a verb. In Clause 1, the subject is “It,” and the verb is “is.” In Clause 2, the subject is the gerund “coming” [a gerund functions as a noun, so it can be the subject of a sentence], and the verb is “can get.”
Both of these clauses are independent, i.e., they stand on their own as two complete thoughts. So to separate them, you can use a comma-conjunction like “… , but.”
Et voilà. Please reread Part 1 of my comma series. As I said, if you were to master only Part 1, you’d solve 95% of your comma-related issues right there.

I thought I’d left a comment, but I guess I hadn’t. Anyway, I’m glad you escaped a probable trap. One has to wonder, if you had asked to see the lady’s family to confirm her story, whether she’d have allowed you to do so. My guess: she’d have come up with some bullshit excuse to keep you from finding out the truth.
Wait—I did leave a comment! I remarked on my confusion about “pawning a trike” versus a “pawn loan.” If you pawn your trike, then you have cash on hand, and that cash is yours—it’s not a loan to be paid back to someone else. So what gives? How does one pawn one’s trike and then owe money? Something doesn’t add up.

Sigh… and you’d been doing so well.
34% grade? Yikes. Even the very worst hills I encountered along the Four Rivers path never broke 20%. I’m surprised you said yes to doing a Guenter trail. What happened to “never again”? Or is the policy now “Never say ‘never again'”?
I wrote a super-lengthy meditation on “Being There” some years back. If you go to that post now, you’ll see that the pretty pictures are unavailable for viewing because I stopped using Photobucket as my host (I started calling it “Photo Fuckit” when the service’s quality deteriorated). I’ll repopulate the blog post with pics soon.

Seems to have been a slightly longer walk than usual, but if I recall correctly, your daily step count translates to well over 10K of walking on average because you hoof it several times a day. Keep up the good work. As for nullifying your healthy behavior by drinking… I’m in no moral position to preach any sermons on that score. Besides, you drink light beer, don’t you?

As for the animated movie: I saw it via Amazon Prime Video. The movie might be available on YouTube, either all of it or just parts of it. I found the preview trailer here. The movie is beautifully rendered, but it’s a lot sadder than the book.
I’ll be writing my review of the movie soon.

It sounds as though the meeting ended amicably enough, and it’s good to know you’ve got loyalists who would be willing to leave if you left. I hope this doesn’t curdle into some sort of factionalism, but since all the people seemed to conduct themselves more or less decently during the meeting, I’m optimistic that you all can get through a season of darts without any more small-mindedness rearing its ugly head. As always, communication is key, and you all communicated your viewpoints at the meeting. Kudos.
So are you still reluctant to play darts, given what’s happened, or are you going to go with the flow and enjoy the rest of the season?

I’m still trying to figure out what a “hunter’s Jo” is. In Korean, a “jo” is a bird.
Tajo = ostrich
Chil-myeon-jo = turkey (lit., “seven-faced bird”)At least the landlord (landlady?) soap opera turned out well, and the other young lady ended up with paying work, although I hope it’s not the kind of work that’ll make her boyfriend jealous.

Sorry to read about the drama. I hope your housekeeper gets her job back, but it sounds as if the landlord’s daughter (is she now the official landlady?) is a bit of a dragon-lady.
As for Jicel (bastardization of “Giselle”? or does she pronounce her name the Spanish way, i.e., “hee-sell”?)… you’ve had ample time to learn lessons from previous mistakes, so I’ll just leave it at that.

Did Scott give himself a little extra protein by eating that beetle?
The drying rice has me curious. In Korea, it’s laid out on nets or tarps so it can be easily lifted off the road without also picking up a bunch of road grit. Is the rice in that photo directly on the road, or is it lying on top of something I can’t see?
