Baloy Beach Birthday Bash

Starting a day with a rainbow but without the rain is always a good sign…

Yesterday I attended the beachside celebration of the 64th birthday of one of my fellow expatriates, Kevin. His gal and her family hosted the event and it was a nice experience to be part of a Filipino-style party. I’ve seen them numerous times from a distance and was always envious because they appear to be a simple and warm gathering with lots of smiles and good times. I wasn’t disappointed. It was quite fun. Cherry, Kevin’s girlfriend, told me that it was rather unique to have so many foreigners at what is normally a family event, and she was happy to see everyone co-mingling and enjoying themselves.

The birthday boy…
I had walked past the venue numerous times on my Baloy hikes but never paid it any mind. It’s a rather rundown place that caters to a low budget local population. Still, I enjoyed the simplicity of the ramshackle shelters and the feeling of being outdoors. I neglected to get photos of the traditional foods we enjoyed buffet style but they included crab, shrimp, fried chicken, grilled meat sticks, Filipino style noodles, and more.
Everyone looks hungry…
Out on the beach…
Naturally, I interacted with some of the other guests…
I don’t know if this is a tradition or a fetish, but Liza seemed to want a whiff of Kevin’s armpit…
And Billy provided Jo some instruction on the proper method of eating a banana…
That’s Padz, a new girl at Alley Cats. I find her strangely attractive even though she is rather chubby. She has a sweet disposition and laughs at my jokes. What’s not to like?
When she caught me sneaking pictures of her from across the room…

Anyway, it was a good time. Started partying a bit before 1:00 p.m. Around 6 they sent out for more beer but I’d had my fill by then and caught a trike home.

Arrived just in time to experience the rarely seen sunset from my patio.

It was a nice way to end a good day.

It’s Hash Monday again so I’ll be heading out later to do my version of a Guenter trail. From the map Scott sent me it doesn’t look bad. I know the area well enough to shortcut as appropriate. I’m also going to start the trail earlier than the appointed time. Why? Because I can. I’m an American after all.

The On-Home is here at the Alta Vista community center. As is my custom I’ll be contributing a pot of chili to our food options. It seems to be quite popular with my fellow Hashers and always sells out quickly.

A couple of more hours and it should be good to go!

And that’s the way it is.

Damn, I guess I’m showing my age with this reference…

  1. So Padz has a lot of… padding? She doesn’t look all that chubby to me, but you and I likely have very different aesthetic standards.

    Happy Hashing!

  2. She’s got a bit of a belly and a bigger butt than I normally like, but she’s one of those types who the better I get to know her, the more attractive she becomes. Funny how that works.
