No, toilet training is not gonna happen. That’s MY throne! Buddy’s good though. Does his business on the morning walk and lets me know if he needs to go out in the back yard during the day. His recent accidents were because he wasn’t feeling well. It’s all good now.

Yes, I had some for lunch today. There was just a hint of sweetness, but otherwise, I couldn’t tell any difference. I just used one small can of chunks, drained. Probably not enough to impact the texture and consistency.

Yeah, I am consistently low. I’ll do the double take though, I do that with blood pressure sometimes. No other symptoms though thus far.

Yeah, the lumpia (a very popular dish here) was served up Filipino style, a bit on the crunchy side.
It’s not technically the correct pass, but the one common sense dictates. Now that I’m walking with confidence no one has asked to see it.
Thanks for the kudos, but we both know you can outstep me any day. Maybe not EVERY day right now while you recover, but someday once again.

Gapo, thanks for reading! I’m a lot more discreet on Facebook when I post. My blog isn’t widely read (around 150 visits a day) and I don’t tell folks here about it. I guess I’ve gotten a little complacent and you make a valid point. I’ve deleted the name of the bar in this post and I’m using a made-up name for the restaurant.

Well, this is a very Catholic country so I was a little surprised to see that the Mass had been suspended indefinitely, and this was BEFORE the quarantine/lockdown was put in place. I could be wrong, but aren’t those churches in Korea that are doing these services all of the fringe protestant persuasion? I agree with you though, shame on them. A religious leader should lead by setting a good example for the congregation.
I understand what the government is trying to accomplish here, but I do have more than a little criticism of the way they are going about it. I went to the grocery store yesterday. As I was leaving I met my neighbor on the street heading towards the store. I saw her later and she was pissed. The Barangay official told her she couldn’t go shopping because they were limiting the number of people going to the store. She responded that she had just seen a foreigner (me) leaving, and he said they weren’t restricting foreigners. That REALLY made her angry. By the way, I noticed when I was there just how few customers were inside. I got my stuff and had my choice of three cashiers just standing around. Restricting Filipino customers makes no sense at all. Stupid shit like that makes people not respect the rules that might be beneficial. Ah well.

Yep, beer and toilet paper…same same. I actually found out that Mango’s was serving diners sit down meals tonight (and beer of course). I had my favorite dish from there –the grilled ribs. Washed them down with copious amounts of San Mig Zero. How long will that last? We’ll see!

Dan, I’m not saying the Wuhan virus is something to take lightly, but some of these measures being implemented are draconian and really make no sense at all. I just don’t see how throwing people out of work with no safety net and then locking them down in the homes to starve is going to end well. I’m already much more situationally aware when I’m out on the street. At some point, my neighbors are likely to be more dangerous than the virus!

Brian, those are fair considerations. I’m certainly not subscribing to any of the conspiracy theories involving government plots or any such nonsense. It just seems to me that some of these prevention measures are counterproductive and the only purpose they serve is to create the appearance of doing something.
Time will tell how bad this all turns out to be. I do agree that prudence and taking precautions as an individual are warranted. Stay healthy!

Yeah, South Korea does seem to be doing it right. From my Facebook feed, I see the bars in Itaewon are still open for business, but a friend who bartends says business is slow. The hotel where she works as a housekeeper has cut her back to two days per week due to lack of occupancy.
I read about Newsome and things happening in other locales that seem eerily similar to the measures being taken here. Yeah, the traffic is way down, maybe 3/4 lower than normal. Every business other than food, water, or meds related has been forced to close. People are in dire straights already and this is the first week. I fear it is going to get ugly soon enough.
So, hopefully the Wuhan virus will be much less damaging than predicted. My gut feeling is that these prevention measures are both an overreaction and will be largely ineffective. But what do I know?

Brandon, yeah that’s why there is no point in me considering bailing and heading back to the USA until this blows over.
I think one day what people will most remember about the Wuhan virus was the total overreaction in implementing draconian preventative measures that caused more harm than the disease.

Kev, I’ve got some beer at the house for an emergency, but honestly I almost never drink at home. I just don’t enjoy it much. I have been adhering to the 8 p.m. curfew, but now the Barangay Barretto folks have been issuing those quarantine passes. Since I technically live in San Isidro I’m probably not going to get one. But I can’t exit my subdivision without entering Barretto. Not sure how that is going to work out.
Jerry, hope you are feeling better about things today. Hang in there, this too shall pass.
Brandon, I hope you are wrong about July. I’m actually hoping that they don’t keep the lockdown in place for the entire 30 day period. It’s really hurting a lot of people. Maybe in two weeks, they can announce it all worked as planned and lift the quarantine. We’ll see.

Funny, but chili is actually a pretty big thing here. There is even an annual chili cook-off. Now, admittedly I put more seasoning in this batch than normal but I also used larger portions of ingredients. It wasn’t THAT hot, especially after crumbling that sweet cornbread into the bowl. I think if I had remembered the pineapple it would have been perfect!
Kev, no I haven’t used that recipe yet. Didn’t have all the ingredients at the house, so next time I can get to a grocery store I’ll remedy that.
Jerry, I’ve never done the pineapple thing before. Saw an article talking about ten unusual chili add-ins, and pineapple was one of them. Hey, it works on pizza!

Kev, yeah if I thought these measures would really make a difference I’d be much more supportive. That’s government for you though. I have a smart TV I never watch, might need to start catching up on the Amazon Prime channel material I am paying for. I’ll post an update on the situation here later today.
Dan, not heard anything along those lines. Knowing the president, he’d be more likely to say let them die there.

Honestly, I’m not in a panic about not getting essential stuff. It’s just a pain in the ass factor with the Navy base closed down now. If all the restaurants in town close up, then I might be worried.

Oh yeah, nothing has changed re: the driver. He’s always been on an as-needed, pay as I go basis. One of the hotels uses him to ferry guests to/from the airport. But with Manila shut and tourists not being allowed in, he and a lot of other people are really going to be hurting.

Well, you changed “people who doesn’t” to “people who don’t”. I don’t know if there was something else as well, it gave me a headache trying to find any other errors. It’s funny when reading the first version “doesn’t” sounds fine to me. It was only in comparing the two comments that I saw you had changed it. But when I typed in “people who doesn’t” I could tell that it was wrong. Heh, even my Grammarly app underlined it.

Dave has legal permanent residency, I didn’t ask the basis but I assume it derives from the investment provisions of immigration law. Dave has been living here for something like 25 years. Used to own a hotel, restaurant, and several bars in Angeles City. He left there ten years ago (allegedly because he grew weary of paying bribes to the local authorities to stay in business) and made a big splash in sleepy Barretto. He’s a fascinating man with lots of stories to tell. The most impressive thing about him is that at 77 years of age he hasn’t slowed down at all. He doesn’t look or act his age. That’s a secret I’ll need to pry out of him one of these days!
