What I did

Wow, three posts in one day. What’s up with that? Well, the other posts were about bars, and now it’s time for your daily dose of me. So here goes.

It wouldn’t be a post about me if it didn’t include me in a bar. Of course, I only visit the bars on days that end in “y,” and SaturdaY qualifies. Actually, I had intended to go to Whiskey Girl. It was raining when I left the house, so I didn’t take the dirt path shortcut; instead, I walked out to the highway. When I reached the highway, the owner of Snackbar across the road saw me and beckoned me to come over. I waved and kept on walking. But then I had a change of heart, deciding to have just “one” as a friendly gesture. I wound up staying until my quitting time, a little before nine. I honestly can’t remember the last time I stayed in the same bar for the entire length of my outing. Well, they do have a cute and friendly staff that was pampering me. In return, I ordered in some food and provided beverages in the form of lady drinks. Then, my pal Ron showed up; I got drafted as the DJ and was having a good time, so why bother leaving?

Up bright and early at my usual 0400 to face another rainy day. This latest storm has been a little tricky–the sun peaks through the clouds, and you think it’s safe to walk your dogs without bringing an umbrella. And then, once you reach the furthest point from your house, it starts pouring down rain again. Oh well, that’s the way it goes.

I baked up a batch of cranberry muffins to warm myself after the drenching.

Tasty they were.
Then I noticed I had a can of cranberry sauce on the shelf, and it seemed only natural to make that my side dish.

After my carby hearty breakfast, it was time to brave the rain for my morning walk. I did arm myself with an umbrella this time. Since I needed to stay on the pavement, I decided to trek out to Subic town to empty the ATM. I got the cash without issue, but on the walk back home, my feet got soaked wading through huge puddles on the shoulder of the highway.

It was a good long (for me) walk under adverse conditions.

Got home safe and sound, took a nap, and worked on the previously mentioned posts. Now I need to bake a carrot cake as part of the feeding I have scheduled at Hideaway bar tonight.

I’m also happy to announce that all my hard work is paying off.

I’ll be back! I hope.

  1. The magnetic charm of Snackbar! Nothing weird about staying at a place you enjoy.

Sorry to hear you got soaked, feet and all. I used to like the prospect of the Korean monsoon because it meant relief from the oppressive summer heat, but this year, the rains have dragged on and on. It’s almost enough to make me a climate-change warrior… but if all social problems get blamed on climate change, what does climate change get blamed on? Oh, I know! Racism! The circle is now complete.

That last image looks vaguely familiar. At least it’s not as bad as that Vin Diesel pic.

  2. Are the girls at the snack-bar just waitress or sit with you types, or are other options available? I recall one of the photos of some them being nice.

  3. Completely unrelated my comment about takeout or question about snack-bar girls, but is the Pub Hotel a nice place? Looks like it is right near the bars you mention.

  4. QP, I’ve actually stayed at the Pub a couple of times. It’s a basic, no-frills room, but it is clean and comfortable. Not expensive either; the rooms used to be around 1500 pesos a night. It’s a good deal at that price.

Another option is the Outback which is almost directly across the street from the Pub. It’s practically new, on the beach, and has a really nice pool and pool bar. I’ve heard good reports from people who have stayed there and that the rates are fair.

I’ll do a post on hotel options in Barretto soon.

  5. Yes, there are some cuties at Snackbar, and they will sit and drink and provide entertaining company. They are not available for takeout, however. Lots of other places nearby where you can find that, though.

  6. Yeah, I’m the same way–bitch about the heat and look forward to the cooler rainy season. When it arrives, I bitch about the rain. I guess that makes me a racist. 🙂

And as long as we are parceling out blame, those photos of Stallone and Diesel caused me to say “fuck it” and switch back to beer last night. Maybe it is time to just let it all hang out and enjoy life.

  7. I got a real education after researching the Vin Diesel photo. Turns out that a lot of ripped movie stars let themselves go during their down time, and they just hope they don’t get photographed while out of shape. I suppose it’s hard work to maintain a particular physique all the time, so sometimes, you just gotta let it all hang out. Hang way out over your belt, that is.
