SOBsequences

My Friday began with a pleasant morning stroll. Only one other participant showed up for the group hike, but hey, four legs are better than two, right?

The morning view from Alta Vista
Gary is the only one who showed up for the Friday hike.
So, they missed views like this…
And Easter Mountain
Just about 7K all in…

I confined myself to one bar last night–Queen Victoria for the SOB competition. I arrived around 4:30 to ensure I got a good seat and so I got to watch the Queen Vic girls practicing their routine. I was very impressed with the energy and devotion to detail they demonstrated. All the teams put on a good show, but in the end I ranked the top four as La Oficina, Queen Victoria, Alaska, and Wet Spot.

The other judges didn’t see it quite that way:

Final results: Alaska, La Oficina, Wet Spot, Queen Victoria

A slight controversy developed after the SOB when the Queen Vic owner posted on Facebook that his girls were discouraged from having finished fourth two weeks in a row despite all their hard work. It happens that way sometimes. I thought they were very good and are definitely improving week-to-week, but so are most of the other competitors. Don’t give up!

I don’t have any photos from this week’s performance, but here is a video of La Oficina last week if you care to see them in action:

And here are my raffle prizes this week:

The 500 peso voucher is always my favorite, so I will be back to Voodoo at some point to put it to work. I also appreciate a “buy one, get one” ticket. It almost feels like half-price!

I don’t bother much with politics on social media these days, it just seems so pointless. But I have witnessed a groundswell of memes being posted mocking the scamdemic Nazis. I’ve taken to sharing them to help spread the word that we won’t get fooled again.

My body, my choice
One commenter asked if that applied to the polio vaccine as well. Yeah, if COVID were polio AND the vaxx had been tested like the polio vaccine and proven effective, I’d get the jab. But, of course, that didn’t happen.
It has been satisfying to see some of the things I posted back in 2020 that I was mocked for believing have proven to be correct. If we all stand together they won’t be able to fuck us this time.
Never forget!

  1. If we all stand together[,] they won’t be able to fuck us this time.

    Here’s hoping.

    Spot the error!

I keep tellin’ ya’, if you learned what dependent and independent clauses were, you wouldn’t have this problem.

Meanwhile, here’s hoping the PI government doesn’t bring back the mask mandates. Masks and isolation were some of the most illogical responses to the pandemic based on what we now know. And don’t even get me started about “vaccination.”

  2. I’m so lazy I’d rather use a comma than a semi-colon. Apparently. My problem is I think about what I’m saying (writing), not how I’m saying it. That’s how I missed the comma splice.

There have been a couple of power-hungry mayors doing stupid mask mandates, but so far, I’m not hearing rumblings of impositions of stupidity beyond that. Here’s hoping it stays that way.

  3. “But hey, four legs are better than two, right?” Buddy and Lucky made you say that, didn’t they?

“if we all stand together they won’t be able to fuck us this time”. Agree with the sentiment McCrarey but easier said than done. Back when Sleepy Joe Biden was mandating the shot for employees of a company with 100 or more employees I was ready to resign my position. Luckily a Federal judge ruled against this mandate but many of my fellow employees had already gotten the jab. I get it. I mean if you had a family to support and were faced with job loss you might do what you need to do to put food on the table. I believe Federal employees were mandated to get the shot. What would you have done if you were still employed as a GS15 with all the perks like the Star Palace? Would you have folded?

I was looking at the Tabulation Sheet for the dance contest. 12 judges and the teams are ranked 1 to 4. What criteria are the dance teams judged on? Is there any set criteria? What do you judge the teams on?

    Peace Out!

  4. Soju, I’m glad you were able to dodge the vaxx bullet. Had I still been working as a re-employed annuitant, I probably would have just re-retired. It would have been a tougher call if I wasn’t retirement eligible, but I don’t think they could have successfully fired me. They would likely have put me in an LWOP (leave without pay) status, and I would have filed an appeal with the Merit Systems Protection Board. Glad I didn’t have to deal with that. As it turned out, I was “forced” to get the vaxx anyway. Under immigration rules, I have to leave the country every three years. My time was up, but the rules in place at the time required a vaxx to re-enter the country. So, I had to choose between the jab and leaving my adopted home. I decided to stay.

As for the SOB, there are no set criteria for the judging. I personally look for creativity, coordination, and enthusiasm. I think some of my fellow judges use a “who’s sexiest” standard. The performances with ass shaking in your face are often rated higher than what I would score them. Still, the outcomes always seem close with no obvious bias. Some people are calling for a system where the winners rotate week-to-week, which is ridiculous–it is supposed to be a competition. If that ever happens, I will end my association with the SOB.
