Over and out

Well, I felt the wrath of my father’s belt many times growing up. As he took it off, he would always say, “This is going to hurt me more than it does you.” It didn’t feel that way to me.

So, sadly, it is now confirmed that Myleen’s Cafe is indeed permanently closed. Since John’s place went out of business, it was probably my most frequently visited eatery in Barretto. So, what does that leave me? Still lots of options, including Sit-n-Bull, Foodies, Mango’s, Treasure Island, and Jewel. No more birria tacos, though.

It’s been raining off and on, but life goes on, and timing is everything.

As seen on the morning dog walk.
An Alta Vista vista.
Ain’t she sweet? See her walkin’ down the street. Now I ask you very confidentially, ain’t she sweet?

We carried umbrellas with us when we headed out for our Friday morning walkabout. Given the threatening skies, we opted to play it safe with a Baloy Beach walk.

It was high tide, so Swan got her toes in the sand and in the water.
She likes it that way.
It’s rare that you see actual waves breaking in the bay.
Nine years ago, this house on the beach was newly built and vacant. It still is. I wanted it when I moved here, but no one knew how to contact the owner. Turns out, he got “disappeared” by someone and has never been seen or heard from again.
We ran out of beach where the river meets the bay, and turned around.
See you again soon!
There and back again came in at just over 5K.

Yesterday, there was a Hash meeting to make plans for the anniversary Hash event coming up this October. We met at the VFW, started at 2, and finished at 2:30. Now what? Well, a few of us headed over to Cheap Charlies. There is a reason I don’t like to start drinking until later in the afternoon, and starting early like this was a good reminder of why. No, I didn’t fuck up, but by the time I headed home at 8 pm, I was a lot drunker than I wanted to be.

On the bright side, I did get to enjoy some chicken quesadillas from Foodies downstairs.

Last night was the official grand opening of The Jungle, and Swan met me there at 4:30. The actual celebration kicked off at 8 pm, but I was in the “one beer too many” zone by then, so I didn’t stay for the party.

On the bright side, every seat in the house was taken, so us vacating our table for the partygoers was a good thing.

And that’s how I rolled through another day in the life.

From Facebook memories, this photo from 2009 was a reminder of what was and will never be again.:

“Are you sure the baby is mine?”

Wrapping up March 2020 in the LTG archives. I’m still finding my way through the “state of calamity” President Duterte declared. Having to show my papers to the authorities in order to buy some food, take-out only, while wearing a mandatory face mask. It got even worse when they changed the curfew to begin at 6 pm. Lucky for me, I found a couple of speakeasies where I could still be served some beers. Reading these posts now, I realize I never fully recovered from the scamdemic restrictions. That’s why I’m still going home so damn early at night.

Let’s do something a little humorous for today’s YouTube video: the quiz Forrest Gump had to pass to get into heaven.

And since we are on a humorous roll, let’s keep it going with these:

You can’t judge a book by its cover.
I hate when that happens…
Well, it is always good to take time to smell the flowers after all.

And with that, we are done here for today.
