A fool’s game

I woke up feeling so special today. Not sure what’s up with that.

First things first–YES, COMMENTS ARE ALLOWED AND WELCOME HERE! Don’t let WordPress or whatever is responsible for saying otherwise dissuade you. I heard from a regular commenter this week that my platform rejected his comment. As of yesterday, he was able to comment again. I turned off one of my spam filters and added the “s” to my HTTP address, and hoped that would resolve future issues. But today I got this email:

I tried to comment, but there isn’t the verification of reading skills anymore and I got an error saying spam blocked. Anywho, I was going to say that there are probably few that like to pay for sex (even though this is what marriage often is), but that it sounded like you had found a win-win situation. Set boundaries, reinforce them, and be prepared to walk away if she gets crazy. QP1973

Thanks, QP. All I can ask is that you try again. And for anyone else experiencing this problem, please shoot me an email (lngtimegne@aol.com) and let me know. I’ll try and get to the bottom of what is going on.

Not a whole lot else happening around here. Did the group hike yesterday and intentionally asked for a hard climb, just to see how my body would respond. Not well, as it turns out. Just don’t seem to have the lung capacity required to get me to the top without difficulty. That doesn’t bode well for Monday’s Easter mountain hike. We’ll see, I haven’t given up hope quite yet.

I didn’t do darts last night, instead choosing to drink my daily beer ration on the back deck of the Palm Tree resort hotel.

Our waitress at Dynamite Dick’s, our after-hike venue yesterday, was wearing this shirt. I asked her what she missed, so she turned around…
…this is the back of the shirt. I blurted out, I can relate, I miss my ex’s pussy…

Yeah, I’m funny when you’re drunk.

I apologize for the emptiness of this post. I had good intentions, but they day got away from me before I knew it. Started this morning when once again, I had to take a nap BEFORE my daily walk. Then another nap when I got back. And one more nap before I sat down to write this post. And now I have business in town. So, I’ll do a better job posting tomorrow. Or try to anyway.

I really need to get my shit together, that’s for sure.

  1. Keep on self-checking. During the same two-week period that you’re checking yourself for COVID symptoms, also keep checking on your lethargy levels. Documenting the lethargy on your blog is actually a good strategy, both as a way to keep notes for yourself and as a way for us readers to engage in our unprofessional “village” diagnoses of your condition. “Wisdom of crowds” and all that.

  2. Things took an interesting turn in the wee hours of the morning. Woke up around 3:30 am and couldn’t get back to sleep. I’m normally up around 4:30 anyway, so I dragged my sorry ass downstairs. Did my nebulizer to clear out the lungs some, then checked my temperature. The thermometer beeped like I hadn’t heard before, and when I checked why it was because I was running a fever–38.5! That’s the highest its ever been since I started doing daily readings over a year ago.

Back to bed and slept until 6:00. Now I need to work on my self-quarantine strategy. Already canceled today’s group hike of course. I’m trying to decide whether to make the living room my quarantine jail, or just take it upstairs to my bedroom. No TV in my room, no bed in the living room. Or maybe I’ll do both. Also want to make sure I don’t expose my helpers anymore than I already have. They both seem fine so far though.

  3. Good to know you’re taking precautions. At some point, if symptoms worsen, do consider hitting a decent hospital. Fever is indeed a COVID symptom, but so is a dry cough, and as you pointed out in a different post, loss of the sense of taste is a symptom reported by many as well. If you sense an encroachment of different symptoms, go see the pros.

  4. Sounds like you are making good decisions. I hope this will pass soon. Maybe you need a few good wiffs of clean air if it can be found. I am not sure what a good fever reducer is. Seldom sick, but still can’t walk without assistance.

Please get well. You are a major part of my day.

  5. Sorry to hear you are feeling under the weather John. Take a cue from
Buddy and Lucky and rest your body. Heck, you might even want to
curl up on the floor with them. Get well soon McCrarey! Peace Out!

  6. Agree with the above comments. As Kevin said, at some point, even if you arent enamored with the Philippine medical system, get a recommendation for a Western trained doc and pay what is needed. Cant put a price on good health. Stay strong!!

  7. Thanks, gents. Just woke up from a two-hour nap. Prior to that, I didn’t even have the energy to walk the dogs (a helper did). My fever has broken now, so I’ll take that as a good sign. Not gonna push my luck though, I’m staying home until I know I’ve turned the corner to healthiness.

  8. For inveterate walkers, there can be a bit of depression and frustration at being unable to do one’s usual thing. This is a normal reaction to being deprived of a favorite activity; it can be endured, and it’ll pass, and when you get back to walking, you can enjoy the challenge of catching your health back up, so to speak.

For the past few weekends, I’ve been wanting to go distance walking, but it has rained, like clockwork, only during the weekends. So I walk at night when I can—just short strolls that come in at barely 10K steps. I’m hoping to do a long walk the weekend of April 10, but the forecast for that weekend has gone from “clear” to “rainy on Sunday.” If Saturday also changes to “rainy,” I’m screwed.

If your fever has broken, that’s good news. It could be that the lethargy is a sign of something else, unconnected to COVID. If it continues over the two-week period we talked about, you should definitely see a professional. It’s forcing a radical departure from your normal routine, so it ought to be looked into.

  9. Yeah, being confined to quarters, even for a day or two, really makes you appreciate and miss your freedom of movement.

Sorry the rain has put an, um, damper on your plans. It’s unusual to get like that this time of year there, isn’t it? Sounds like bad luck.

I’ve had the lethargy for over a week already. It intensified yesterday though. I am hoping I’m already at the tail-end of that two-week period. I’m going to have to be a hell of a lot worse off before I go to a doctor, No breathing issues or anything like that, so no need.
