Here I be

Almost 4 hours from there to here.

I’ve got a Hash to attend to, so I’ll make this quick. An uneventful drive (that’s the best kind!), although the traffic in Agoo was horrific, mostly due to road construction and the usual stupidity of drivers who park in the right lane, impeding the progress of other vehicles. Getting road rage in the back seat was a good reminder of why I chose not to drive in the Philippines.

But we reached our destination safely. We always enjoy our stay at Go Resort.
The beach view, such as it is, from the Go Resort.
A late lunch with my fellow travelers.
I ordered the Korean sparerib. It tasted fine, but I didn’t detect any Koreanness.

We took a quick nap after eating, then headed to the Blue Cat beach bar to complete our registration for the Hash and pick up our Anniversary Hash shirts. I made a short video of our walk to Blue Cat. (I recommend speeding it up. Sorry for the poor camera work!)

I finished signing in for the Hash, picked up my new shirt, and chose our Hash trail option.

The latest addition to my Hash attire wardrobe.

The trail options were a boring 3K walk, a hard and steep 6K jungle hike (two climbs), or a gentle and scenic 9K stroll. Well, 9K is about my max these days, but I’m going to give it a try.

As we were enjoying our beverages (they don’t have Extra Light here, so SML it was for me), we spent some time watching the sun do it’s thing.

There is something special about a sunset on the ocean.
The gals were all enjoying the show.
Celebrate good times, come on!
I did a zoom shot to capture the glory of the moment.
Even the clouds were reflecting the rays being cast upon them.
And that’s about it.
See you tomorrow!

The Hash gathering was winding down, so I asked my group if they wanted to visit the only other bar I know of in Bauang, a place called Footlights. They were up for it, even after I warned them it would mean a one-kilometer walk along the highway in the dark. So off we went.

And fifteen minutes later, we arrived safely at our destination.
Only two dancers on stage, but despite the lack of an audience, they actually put some effort into their performance. The Barretto gals generally just stand around.
I was happy to reward their efforts by giving them both a 50-peso tip.

A couple of drinks later, we were ready to head back to the hotel. Despite the short distance, prudence dictated that we grab a trike to carry us to our destination.

Swan and I weren’t quite ready to call it a night, however. We popped into the Go Resort restobar and ordered us some dessert.

We shared a tasty banana split.
And ended the evening with some beer and wine.

Scott was kind enough to take one of the photos I shared on Facebook and turn it into this work of art:

Ain’t that sweet?

Speaking of Scott, he posted this photo from a Hash 6 years ago:

Two of those three seated Hashers are dead now. Does that mean I’m next?

Well, hopefully I survive the 9K journey through unknown territory (that means no shortcutting) coming up this afternoon. We shall see. Live it while you got it!

In the March 2023 LTG archives, I tell the tale of a drunken SOB and getting my ass kicked. At least, the little bit that I remember. I gave up drinking after that night. Drinking gin, I mean.

That’s the drunk bastard I’m talking about. Lesson learned.

Today’s YouTube video is a test. I missed four out of fifteen questions, but damn, I thought some of them were stupid—in a “who knows and who cares?” kind of way. Your mileage may vary.

Here they come, ready or not:

It’s not the meat, it’s the motion. Or so I’ve been told.
A thankless job for sure.
Busted!

And now I’m going to finish preparing for my trek today with the La Union Hash House Harriers. Assuming I survive, I’ll let you know how it went tomorrow.

On to 1974—and here’s one of the year’s top ten hits that brings back some memories. My pal Rodney and I were hitchhiking across the Pacific Northwest, and one night we wound up at a dive country bar in Big Fork, Montana. The only song on the jukebox I recognized was by Elton John, so I played it. Over and over. Lucky we didn’t get our long-haired asses kicked by the local rednecks.
