Nice pics. I can relate to the fishing villages.

Symptoms of COVID are dry cough, fever, and for some people, an inability to taste food. I’m not seeing any of those complaints in your post, and though I’m not a doctor, I’d guess this isn’t COVID. A runny nose isn’t a corona symptom—quite the opposite.
Well, rest up, keep drinking those fluids, and don’t catch any venereal diseases. Here’s to your health!

Never a boring moment! Good to know you seem to be doing better. Rock on!

And now, to show us some cross-sections!

I think that’s my first time seeing that cartoon. Nice.
Steak looks a lot better than past efforts. A lot better. Keep doing whatever you’re doing.

Still dancing as fast as I can
In the two-part episode “The Menagerie,” a wheelchair-bound Captain Pike is reduced to a life of giving yes/no answers to questions. Ultimately, he is taken to a planet run by aliens who can create realistic illusions, and thus he is given the illusion of health so he can live out his life happy instead of trapped in the actual reality of his existence.
Pike’s character has been rehabilitated of late in the new Star Trek TV shows, perhaps inspired by his appearance in the JJ Abrams movies.

Well, good luck figuring out what may be ailing you. It never even occurred to me to associate lethargy with bars; if there are older guys than you who are still holding their own at those bars, then you can probably rule out bar-hopping as a cause of lethargy.
As for faux companionship… it’s not for me, but whatever floats your boat. As long as you’ve got cash, you can maintain the illusion. Plead empty pockets, though, and these ladies will show their true colors, so keep the money-spigot cranked up to 10.
Later, Captain Pike.

At least your day sounds better than an ice pick in the brain.
I don’t know. Some assholes may indeed deserve death. Too many oxygen thieves in the world (as an Aussie coworker of mine used to say).

Looks to have been a nice hike. I appreciate the photos!

But that doesn’t mean I can’t play along and enjoy the fantasy. I didn’t mean to imply that pretending is better than the real thing, just that it beats being alone all the time.
I think that’s where you and I differ fundamentally. I’d rather be alone than have a fake companion. That would just feel hollow.
Get a dog. Dogs are sincere. And they really love you. That was kind of my point: for you, insincerity (the Matrix) is better than nothing. Cypher was aware of what the Matrix was, and he wanted to be plugged back into it, anyway. Some people want the blue pill even after taking the red pill.

“So, when you spend enough time and money with a gal it’s possible she’ll get cuddly, laugh at your jokes, and have you believing you are something special. Hey, in the long run it is cheaper and less dangerous than having a real girlfriend. At least that’s been my experience.”
In other words, settling for the fake version, when the real version isn’t working out, is just fine. I think you’re all ready to be plugged into the Matrix. Are those real wings you’re eating or just the illusion of wings created by a computer mastermind? Does it even matter?

“The situation did make for some interesting situations.”
Situationally speaking.
Congrats on second place, at least.
That sliced-open carrot cake looks like a murder scene, but I bet it does indeed taste awesome. And one of these days, I’ll have to have a bowl of your famous chili.

With so many people praising the trail, there must have been a lot of butts on ice. Let no good deed (or word) go unpunished!

While I can never relate to the randiness and will doubtless fade into a pretty sexless retirement, I’d say you’re way better off where you are now than you would be in any retirement home. In a home, you’d be dealing with staffers who would treat you like a petulant child for wanting to assert your independence. And as I discovered during my recent stint at a hospital, the very ambience of places that purport to care for you can lead you to convince yourself that you’re really sick and deserve to be there. No, you’re definitely better off living this life. If I had to choose between retirement in the PI and life in a nursing home, waiting for death, I’d choose the PI, too. At least whatever mistakes you make are your own.

So if you leave ingredients to make an awesome hamburger at the Kitchenette, will the ladies make you one? Are they that versatile?

May the route prove to be enjoyable for everyone!
Did I see expanded seating at the Kitchenette?

Is it always better to give than receive?
It’s not an ethical question that’s going to be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction anytime soon. Is it somehow wrong that helping others might make one feel good or provide other rewards? I don’t see how.

So long as you’re not breaking any bones while sliding around in the mud, I’d count that as a win.

I have no idea what that duck/pigeon poem is even supposed to mean. And no, I’ve never heard that one before.
Tacos do look good, despite the damn onions I see peeking out at me.
“They know a sucker when they see one.”
I’d love to know what sort of reputation you’ve earned over the past few years. I mean, you’ve banged at least half the village.

Damn. I was sure the punchline to that final joke was going to involve a corpse. But sexual harassment works.
I’ve had to do the shit-in-nature thing a few times, so I feel your pain.
Be careful about those women. As I’ve said before, aim higher. One day, you’re gonna pick the wrong female and suddenly find yourself on a plane for the States. Or Thailand.

You don’t always get what you want
Were you the one who put up that funny pic comparing depressing retirement life in the States (old folks’ home) with retirement in Southeast Asia (old guy chasing twentysomething chickadee)? That one never gets old. If you’ll pardon the geriatrics pun.

Good to know the business is going well. The owner knew her target market and aimed right for it. I wish her continued success.

I think my blisters come mostly during my long walks, so that’s many days in a row of 30K-plus steps. Or maybe I just have weak, delicate skin.

Seems more like handouts than love!
Great images of the hike. I think the stream-wading would be a problem for me: I’d worry about blisters.
I’m thinking I want to start spending my Sundays cleaning up the pollution in my neighborhood. The idea has been in my head for a while, and maybe it’s time to really commit to it.

Am suddenly realizing that your first paragraph mentions a throwback but doesn’t seem to explain what the throwback was. There’s a line in one of the picture captions about how the first part of the day’s trail was familiar… was that the throwback? Or was the trail a throwback in the sense that you enjoyed it and didn’t use any shortcuts?

You seem to be recovering nicely. Thanks for the pics and the narrative!

Well, at least your life is never boring.

No tickie, no washie, or so they used to say.
I guess a girl doesn’t become an avidly cum-gobbling pro overnight. Sluts are made, not born.
As for her getting pregnant twice, I’m guessing she just lay there passively and let it happen.
Just as when you report a loss at darts, I’ll leave you with a “Better luck next time.”

«« Back To Stats PageIf you’re feeling tired, take a rest. You normally go at a relentless pace and have a pretty highly ritualized schedule (based on when you post blog entries and when you leave comments at my place), so take a break without any guilt. It’s okay to relax now and then.
