Life just keeps rolling on. If you had the chance to travel back in time, what would you tell your decade-younger self to do differently? Me, I’d want to travel all the way back to high school to tell my younger self to take a home-economics class, learn about personal finances, and be brave enough to talk to that girl I crushed on for three years.

French dip looks good. So do a lot of the girls in those photos. No naked pics = you’re gettin’ soft on us.
I pay Google $2.99 a month for 200 GB of storage, about half of which is being used. If I got myself a 10-terabyte external drive and could figure out how to turn it into a server, I might take everything off Google and stop paying that monthly fee, but for the moment, $3 a month isn’t too painful. It’s a slow trickle, a minor cut with very little bleeding. Only problem is that, if I change the location of the photos that appear, say, on my blog, I have to re-upload years’ worth of photos, so I’m kind of in a bind. This is how Google sucks you in, I guess: by nickeling and diming.

Whenever I see someone on the walking path with a Fitbit strapped to his shoulder, I usually stage-whisper, “Your Fitbit sucks” as I pass him. Being Korean, he likely doesn’t speak fluent English, and I don’t get a chance to do that sort of thing very often.
I’ve heard all sorts of bad things about how inaccurate those devices can be (not to say that my phone’s pedometer is much better, really), and thus far, my pedometer seems to have served me well, so I just stick with it.
When I got my most recent phone, there was initially a period of trouble, but that was because I hadn’t figured out how to adjust my touch-screen sensitivity. Once I got that ironed out, the pedometer functioned just as it had on my previous phone.
To be fair, I don’t trust how my pedometer measures distance, especially in miles. It’s way too generous. I trust the time and the step count, and I can use math (and Naver Maps) to figure out speed and distance. That’s good enough for me.
Anyway, good luck with your… device. I think, accurate or not, the more important thing is whether it gives you consistent results to allow you to establish a basis for comparison.

I think I’ve read here & elsewhere that you Hashers are “drinkers with a running problem,” but only some of you ever run! What’s up with that? Have you ever run a trail before? Personally, in my current shape, I can’t imagine ever running more than a kilometer. Jogging, more like. After my stroke, I’m now useless as a runner because I still have lingering balance issues.
Congrats to the newlyweds. Long may they leech.

My sympathies re: your phone travails. Accidentally deleting precious data is the worst; I’ve done it before myself. This is why the computer nerds are always saying, Back your data up, back your data up. When I remember to, I upload my phone’s more valuable photos to my Google Drive. I keep a lot of my data in the Cloud these days.

Enchiladas, homemade chili, hiking scenery all look good, but damn, that river pollution is depressing. While it’s not as bad along the Potomac where I used to live, the banks of the Potomac definitely do have a lot of trash, and that’s depressing, too.

Hills, hills, hills. And that’s why 6-8K feels like 18-25K on flat ground. I’ve said it before, but I do not envy you the heat (and, I assume, the humidity—ick). It’s coming to Korea: spring here will be gorgeous and brief, but once summer arrives, it’s gonna be hell.
