Yes, Lonesome Dove is not your typical Western. The story revolves around a never previously attempted cattle drive to Montana and the people trying to make that happen, led by two former Texas Rangers. Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones head an outstanding cast. It is based on the novel by Larry McMurtry and the series stays pretty much true to the book. Best of all, you can watch it for free on YouTube.

Kev, maybe I just remembered wrong about the dipping sauce. I know it’s good with honey, but that might not be standard fare. Ah, Bennigan’s! I think I’ve had their version way back in the day. I know I prefer that deep-frying method. John Kim’s was tasty, it just didn’t have the really fried texture.
Yep, Fauci is the poster child of government incompetence and prevarication. I hope the day comes soon when people wake up and realize they’ve been played.
Good job on the weight loss, that’s all from diet I assume. Once you add in the exercise you’ll get there in no time. Maintenance will be more fun…

Brian, the cost of medical here is definitely cheaper than in the USA, I’m not sure just how “decent” it is or how much I trust it though. Still, I’ll get some tests done and talk with a doc, then go from there. Hopefully, it proves to be no big deal.

Hey James, I’ve been sponsoring 3 gals regularly for the Hash. No expectation (or much desire) for any return “favors”, at least from this group. I can’t deny that I see many women that I covet, even a few on more than a purely physical basis, but I confine my actions to fantasizing. Usually.

Kev, yeah COPD doesn’t get better you can only hope to slow it down At least the meds alleviate those breathing attacks I used to have. Yeah, low-energy is worse than being lazy–one’s a choice the other is a burden. The itching is also my biggest concern–a symptom suggesting something is not working right internally. My mom was diabetic but I’ve never shown any signs (at least since losing all that weight) that that was going to be an issue for me. We’ll see.
I’m not sure I’m actually brave enough to love again, I just talk like a tough guy here on the blog. You never know though, I was surprised when I developed feelings for Padz. Her dream-crushing rejection was a good reminder. That whole “age is just a number” mindset seems to be universal in the Filipina psyche. I don’t worry about it anymore, although I personally prefer someone in their 30s. Had to look up Anna Nicole Smith to remind myself what happened to her. Sad story indeed.
Just like I do long-distance hikes vicariously through your blog, you can indulge your food fantasies through mine. Or wait for your cheat day!

Brian, that is in fact a construction site we are walking past. There is a weekly trash pickup provided by the barangay for $6. a month or so. Everyone in the subdivision uses trash cans for the most part. Trash pickup is also done in town but people take their trash to a collection point in makeshift bags. It’s quite the mess a day or two before it’s picked up. The only explanation I have for this “system” is that it’s the Philippines, that’s why.

Kev, yeah that’s true. One of the “forgotten” scenes in the film has Phil Connors recalling a perfect day he’d experienced in the Virgin Islands and lamenting that he wasn’t living that day over and over. I’m not complaining about getting to choose this life, no matter how repetitive.
Dan, there used to be a couple of bars in that “gap” you mention. Both out of business, but one is still for lease. Nope, not gonna try my luck with the bar business. If I was tempted, it would be for a beach bar location.
Brian, I read about the filming location in the Wikipedia article I linked. I didn’t know that either. Some other interesting backstories from the film as well, including the end of the Murray-Ramis friendship over creative differences.

Dan, yeah those faces look afraid of something. I reckon they don’t often see many big white guys up close. It appears to me that several families live in their “complex” and lots of other kids around. Usually lots of laughter so I think they are okay. Oh, and thanks for your support on my mental acuity. Sounds like I’m doing it right! 🙂

Kev, sorry for the delay in your first comment appearing. I approved Dan’s on my phone (while drinking) and somehow missed yours. Maybe the drinking had something to do with it. I hadn’t read your farting post yet, so wasn’t sure where Dan’s comment was coming from. It all makes sense now.
Dan, oddly enough, I was thinking about gas while in the dentist’s chair. Back in the USA, I had a dentist who administered nitrous oxide (laughing gas). The kind you are talking about would be NOXIOUS! Hmm, maybe I could sell the rights to my blog so the content could be turned into a major motion picture! Can you imagine sitting through that? On the other hand, a porn movie might work… 🙂

I like it! Actually, I think I take a fairly honest approach with these encounters. It’s not ALL about the money or the sex, but without the money, I know I’d be spending lots more time alone.

Have a dentist appointment tomorrow, I’ll ask whether they recommend an implant. The first dentist just wanted to pull it and be done. But yeah, I’m not sure my thick wallet could overcome braces!

Yeah, you are in for some major lifestyle changes, that’s for sure. It’s got to be especially tough since you like getting creative with your desserts in the kitchen. I guess you can become a chef renowned for baking foods that won’t kill you.
It’s a molar, so losing it won’t affect my smile. Luckily, there has been zero pain, which leads me to believe I’d had a root canal on that tooth previously. I might not bother with an implant either. I’ve dealt with that cavity for months, toothless will be easier.

Dan, just make sure you don’t regain that weight! The odd thing is I rarely drink at home, so the beer is more of a social activity. Yikes, does that make me a socialist? Seriously, I’m not really worried about it. I drink a lot, but not to excess. I’ll adjust as necessary.
Terry, I’m impressed with your healthy lifestyle. Keep it up and you’ll be one of those centenarians I’ve read about!

It’s all relative I suppose. In Korea, I was paying $6 or $7 for a bottle of SML. Glad beer is one of the things that are relatively cheap here.

Dan, that’s 60 pesos, or around $1.20 a beer. That’s about as cheap as it gets, although some places have 55 peso beer for happy hour.
I’ll think about what to say in a “friendship” post.
Regarding the dogs, I guess you just learn to ignore them most of the time. There are so many stray dogs just running wild on the streets/beaches they become part of the background scenery. I’ll throw them a scrap sometimes when I’m eating at Mango’s. I was feeding neighborhood dogs Brownie and Buday, but they are both dead now.

Kev, I don’t particularly like moving, so as long as the new place meets my needs I’m likely to stay. I would still prefer a house to myself, so if one becomes available here in the ‘hood I’d be tempted.
Dan, I’ve quite often tried to imagine what mountain life in a shanty would be like. The bottom line is always it would be a major pain in the ass. Whether my blog stats would explode might be contingent on the wifi connection. Or whether I have electricity.
Brian, yeah, I’m glad to have that confirmation in writing. I can’t imagine any issues with the inspection unless they are going to gig me for the improvements I’ve made to the house.
