Kev, I have often wondered why in this day and age more women are not using birth control. Yeah, the church frowns on that, but I don’t see them helping to feed all these babies. Joy is the only girl I’ve met that is using birth control, props to her! I’ve been “cut” so I won’t be making any babies. But it is shocking that almost all the women I screw never ask me about that or want me to wear a condom. So the cycle of poverty is destined to continue.
I’m pretty sure Denny never took the steps necessary to convey citizenship to his children. To me, that is almost criminal. A US passport would be a golden opportunity for them, but I guess he couldn’t be bothered about their future. Sad.
Brian, your assessment is spot on. Yeah, the girls have their fair share of the blame for their circumstances, but the guys who lie and knock them up and then flee are scoundrels. When I used to take gals out of the bar for the night I’d always look for someone relatively new to the scene. The girls who have been around a while tend to be jaded and cynical.

Hilarious story about the cadillac. Had something similar happen when I was trying to buy a pack of smokes once. “Dongbe Marlboro Silver, chuseyo”. Guy kept handing me the wrong ones. Finally pointed at the silver pack. He slams it on the counter, points at the word, and instructs me, “Silbuh! Silbuh!”
Damn, sunshine and alcohol? I’m going to be blind for sure.

Oddly enough, days before his stroke the owner of CC’s implemented a policy of “no ladies drinks”. It didn’t bother me, but lots of customers were upset with the change. The new management went back to the old way of doing things.
Most of the bars here have waitresses you can drink with, the only exceptions being hotel bars like Mango’s and Palm Tree. Smart management has rules that don’t permit the gals to ask for a drink or otherwise harass the customer in pursuit of a commission. I honestly don’t mind buying the occasional drink, but only on my terms–I like to sit down and enjoy my first beer in peace. If I order a second beer, and I feel like chatting with my server, I’ll get her a drink as well. I expect her to make it last–one drink for every two beers I order.
It’s tough times now with no big-spending tourists in the bars. Salaries have been reduced, I’ve heard as low as 150 pesos ($3.) a day, and that barely covers transportation to/from work for some of these girls. I understand their desperation to earn drink commissions, but when it stops being fun for the customer everyone loses.

Yeah, there are no rules about doing a trail. We have a core group of “socialites” who just show up for the drinking and Hash circle activities. They are put on the ice and subjected to a rude song for that indiscretion though. I don’t mean to overstate the doing my own thing problem–no official complaints, just talk for a couple of Hashers who don’t like my group starting early and doing it our way. Our “sane” group seems to be growing in number week-to-week as well.
It’s a philosophical thing I suppose. My belief is a Hare should make a trail suitable for the nature of our Kennel and should never put people at risk unnecessarily. Other Hares want to make the trail as challenging as possible. To each his own I suppose. I’ve considered suggesting we have two official trails each week, long and short, but that’s more hassle than it’s worth. My way is working pretty well most of the time.
Yeah, rain or shine I’m out there, “whether” I like it or not!

Kev, yes it does seem that most governments are beginning to come to their senses. Then again, this is the Philippines and leadership here is going to find it difficult to let go of the opportunities for graft and corruption the pandemic has brought them. More and more the locals are ignoring the edicts from on high, so maybe that is cause for hope.
QP, yes. Young, willing, and enthusiastic! That’s a potent combo for an old fuck like me to enjoy.

Well, it wasn’t as steep as Monday, but more than twice as long a climb, which made it worse in my mind. I had no idea we were tackling the big Kalaklan mountain, but yeah, I had a bad feeling early on and I should have listened. I do indeed hope the lesson has been learned!

Well, I wish I could say “that’s right!”, but the fact is my trail yesterday was almost entirely flat…I think the total elevation gain was just over 100M. You are still the king when it comes to endurance.

Kevin, spreading the move out was my intent, and then the internet people messed that up by installing my service in the new place ahead of schedule. There are some things I like better about this place, but honestly, I’m going to miss my old house. It was more convenient. No regrets though, the move wasn’t so much about money as it was maintaining my pride and dignity.
Brain, yeah, I hear you. My intent has always been to minimize stuff. When China comes rolling in, I’m going to pack my suitcase and head on out. I’ll be leaving a lot more behind than I thought I would.
Having said that, I’m already planning to acquire some more stuff to better accommodate the stuff I already have. Need some shelving in the living room and a clothes rack in the bedroom to start with. Ah well, living in a poor country and complaining about having too much stuff seems pretty messed up…

I mentioned that issue during the intake interview but said I’d taken a pill that seemed to have worked. I was still concerned I was only masking a symptom of something bigger. She assured me the blood work tests would identify any kidney or liver issues. The tests came back normal, so…
I’ve been feeling better in general of late, so I’m not going to spend time worrying.

Heh, I wish. Nothing as exciting as that. The circle has just become longer than necessary and frankly, just boring. We got some songs that just go on and on and on. Sometimes they are funny, but everything gets old after a while. It seemed we used to have a pretty standard schedule–introductions, ice the hares, violations (theft and littering on trail, Hash crash/fuckup) virgin/naming rituals, returning/leaving Hashers, and so forth. Now people are making shit up as we go along and it seems neverending.
The other thing is people talking and carrying on during the circle which makes it nearly impossible to hear what is happening sometimes. So even the good parts of the circle are less enjoyable.
Also, I’m becoming a grumpy old man and just bitch and moan about everything. The other Hashers seem to be okay with the status quo, so I just exit when my tolerance is exhausted.

Brian, yeah I’m definitely insulated from the majority of the bullshit. Plus I’m “rich” which further isolates me from what the masses have to deal with.
I’ve only been to Thailand once (Bangkok and Pattaya) but I really picked up a police state vibe there. I mean, who bans vaping (and aggressively pursues violators) but allows smoking? I was there when the former King died and the cops came out in force to shut all the bars down. I mentioned to an expat in a bar about possible successors to the thrown and he stopped me cold. “We DO NOT talk about the Royal family here and if you are smart you won’t either. I came to find out it is a crime to make disparaging comments about anything to do with the monarchy. Really put me off.
We are not permitted to engage in political speech here in the PI as non-citizens. Not really enforced much that I’ve seen other than a couple of deportations. I limit my opinions to shaking my head sadly at some of what I see.

Kev, actually, quite a few of the Hash gals find the songs funny and enthusiastically participate in the song-making. The others probably don’t understand the lyrics.

There’s no debate the French dip was excellent sans cheese. And The Pub also offers a Philly cheesesteak should I crave the cheesy beef. I’m blessed to have choices!
Brian, there won’t be any disruption–the basement is actually further removed from my living space than the current one. Inday will assist my other helper with chores like the laundry, so that will be good. Inday is attractive so I need to remember my policy of not messing with the help! 🙂

As cheeseless as I am clueless? Just shows how long it has been since I’ve had a “real” French dip. I was expecting cheese that doesn’t belong there. Damn! Like I said though, it was quite tasty and I was very satisfied. And now I need to thank John Kim for not letting me ruin the experience!

I’m only going to carry the two keys I’ll actually use regularly (the gate and front door). Most of the others will be in a drawer until needed.

Most bars don’t use the paper chits, they just run a tab. The nice thing about the chit system is you can keep track of what you are drinking (spending) and there is no dispute at the end of the night.

I’ve never thought of chili when eating baked beans (or vice-versa), but then again, they are both from that same “magical fruit”…
