Bars of Barretto: Hideaway

That writing on the wall hasn’t changed since the Dive In days. I guess Dive In purported to be a sports bar, which is loosely defined as having a pool table, darts, and a television for the “big game”. It will be interesting to see if the new owner does a better job promoting the bar’s actual Hideaway name.

You’re fired!

No, no, I’m not paranoid and have no issue with the expressed viewpoint that FWB is prostitution by another name. I’m just not going to admit that that is my intent. The key difference in my mind is that it is not necessarily about sex–massage, hiking, companionship are non-sexual elements of the program.

Well, prostitution is technically illegal here, so I don’t want to call my escapades that… It is just two consenting adults sharing intimacy to our mutual benefit.

It’s interesting to watch the madness from afar. But yeah, with Kamala next in line it is going to be a disaster either way.

I know Rosie! There’s even a song about her:
Rosie you’re alright, you wear my ring
When you hold me tight, Rosie that’s my thing
When you turn out the light, I’ve got to hand it to me
Looks like it’s me and you again tonight
Rosie

HaHa, yeah, Tyrion is my hero!

Truthfully though, it is not so much about horniness as it is trying to create a win-win situation that doesn’t equate to prostitution, at least in the classic sense of the word. I would be satisfied if the arrangement was only about a massage or hiking companion. In theory, this “taking care of each other” concept is a way for the girls to earn money without selling their dignity. In return, I get the illusion I’m with someone who wants to take care of me and spend time with me. It hasn’t really been working out that way though. Rather than stopping the begging for money, participants seem to view me as an ATM for whatever need that arises in their life. Knowing that is how they see me kills any desire I might have for their company. The win-win becomes a lose-lose.

My remaining FWB has mostly been an exception to the above. She begs occasionally, but always in terms of “please, please, please, let me give you a massage today!” Yeah, it is a subtle difference, if any, but at least she is playing the game.

Gravitas

Damn it. Keith is actually my older brother’s name, so you’d think I’d see the typo. I need to proof my proofreading!

Bars of Barretto: Queen Victoria

I’m not there much these days, but it does seem a more “hands on” presence would be a good thing. Lots of other bars are offering live music these days (Lux being the latest) so there are options other than QV.

» Posted By John McCrarey On 01/October/2024 @ 4:59 pm

Yes, CR = comfort room, what we would call a restroom.

And that’s exactly my problem with live music in a bar, you can’t hear yourself think. Now, if the bands were of higher quality maybe they could hold my attention better…

What have I done…

Well, the menu called them “Swedish pancakes” so who am I to argue. Definitely much thinner than the American version.

Thanks for the link to Walk Hard. I missed that when I abandoned the USA in 2005. Sounds funny as hell and I pray to God I never have to walk that hard in real life!

A low bar

QP, yeah, that’s right. As the mongers like to say: “I don’t pay her for sex, I pay her to leave in the morning…”

» Posted By John McCrarey On 18/October/2021 @ 12:03 pm

Kev, for the most part, you can drink without companionship or harassment in any of the regular bars. For those who so desire, female company is available for the price of a lady drink–all you have to do is ask. If you prefer to be alone just don’t offer any drinks. In a properly managed bar, the gals aren’t permitted to ask. I’ve never been pestered in places like It Doesn’t Matter or BarCelona for example. I have my “regulars” in most places but don’t mind drinking alone when they are busy.

Relapse

Thanks for the memories, Brian. Yes, time flies. I’ll be glad when I can again! Hang in there, maybe our paths will cross again one day…

» Posted By John McCrarey On 16/October/2021 @ 10:26 am

Kev, haha! I’ve told that joke before. Yeah, I meant compulsion. I’m very serious about my Biden disease…this is another example of how it manifests itself.

Dave, yeah your memory is intact when it comes to the Maze bars. They weren’t all Dryden Group bars though. One you left out that I liked was The Man Cave. Rum Jungle is now The Green Room, a sports bar. Still plenty of places the go in this town, that’s for sure.

QP, well, this is the first time I’ve done anything like that and I don’t expect to make it a habit. One of the factors in play here was that she didn’t ask. at least not directly. She told me her sad story and then just said she’d have to continue living in pain and discomfort until she could raise the money. After I’d moved on to my next stop I got to thinking about all the ways I waste money and that I could pay for the operation with just a little self-discipline on my part. Her response when I told her was as if a prayer had been answered. Heh, the Lord I don’t believe in truly does work in mysterious ways.

Walk it off

Chris, we are doing all right for a bunch of old farts. And yeah, God only knows what we’d look like without the walking.

If I’m not mistaken, you are a first-time commenter. Thanks for that and welcome to my little world here at Long Time Gone!

Yes, I was comparing and contrasting the fishing industry in our two countries.

What now?

Oh yeah, I’m sure this isn’t COVID, probably just a cold. And the snot is flowing quite impressively. I’m just gonna keep on doing what I do–this too shall pass!

A wild and windy night

Well, what will be will be. I have a firm rule about messing with the help so I’d have to fire her afterward…

» Posted By John McCrarey On 14/October/2021 @ 6:46 am

QP, she lives in my basement. My part-time helper. I love that sweet ass but she has a Filipino boyfriend. I always temper my lust by reminding myself of the potential drama that would arise should I start banging the help. So far I’ve managed to resist her charms.

Don’t blow it!

The new grill helps. Also, I try to be patient enough for it to get hot enough for a proper searing before slapping on the beef.

Still dancing as fast as I can

Soju, yeah the Pink Floyd song is one of my favorites. Thanks for the memories.

Kev, ah, now I get it. I hadn’t seen that episode and Wikipedia didn’t mention it. But yeah, maybe I am in the camp of “reality is whatever you imagine it to be.”

Kev, I’m not getting the Captain Pike reference. Google says he was Kirk’s predecessor on the Enterprise but I’m not making the connection. Did he pay for his company too?

Dan, I’ll read up on those supplements and check on their availability here. Thanks for the tip. And yeah, it occurred to me that my body just might be saying give me a break…

Terry, I did have the complete blood work thing done just a couple of months ago. I eat a pretty healthy diet too. But if I need to increase my lady consumption, so be it! 🙂

Brian, the thought did occur to me because the symptoms I’m experiencing are very similar. Although immediately after my bout with what I assume was COVID I was fine. I wonder if this might be just a very mild infection with the Delta variant? Well, if I’m not feeling more normal in a week or so I’ll consult a doctor.

Thanks to all of you for your concern and suggestions!

Wait for it

Yes, avoiding an ice pick in the brain is one of life’s underrated pleasures. Don’t want to judge the guy too harshly since I don’t know him personally though.

Rock climbing

It’s the same here, Brian. Foreigners can not own land, so condos are one option. Lots of foreigners do the long-term lease thing and some get creative with the way it is structured to make it tantamount to ownership. Regardless, the horror stories of buying property in the wife’s name are legion. In the worse cases, the husband dies in an unfortunate accident. Others are like the sad old man pictured in this post ranting and raving on the street. Nope, not gonna happen to me.

Wingsday

I don’t know. Last night sitting at Cheap Charlies enjoying a cold beer. Alma was snuggled up next to me, her head on my shoulder while gently rubbing my back. Fake or not, it felt nice. Maybe Cypher was right…

Well, I get your point, but to be clear, I did acknowledge upfront that I know how the bar games are played and there is nothing real about the affection on display. But that doesn’t mean I can’t play along and enjoy the fantasy. I didn’t mean to imply that pretending is better than the real thing, just that it beats being alone all the time.

The people plugged into the Matrix didn’t know they weren’t connected to reality. I do. And as to your final inquiry, perhaps the answer can be found in the name of the bar: It Doesn’t Matter.

Shooting the bull

Great minds think alike, Soju.

Damn, Joe Biden disease strikes again. What is weird is I did a proofread and made some changes. No idea how I missed that glaring faux pas.

Trailers for sale or rent

Thanks, Brian. Yeah, it seems I bitched about the trail more than any of the Hashers. Go figure.

» Posted By John McCrarey On 06/October/2021 @ 9:33 am

Dan, I’ve never heard of NAC, I’ll check it out. I don’t consider the FDA a legitimate authority on anything.

Kev, yeah we filled the ice but that happens most weeks. I was more surprised that the criticism I expected didn’t really happen.

Retired life

Yeah, a retirement home would be a nightmare. I was thinking more along the lines of some of those retirement communities, such as Sun City, AZ. I remember seeing those as a young man and thinking no way, it looks so boring! If you get bored in Barretto it’s your own damn fault.
