Brian, ah, I guess I was in the wrong neighborhoods (bar districts) in Thailand and didn’t notice the sari-sari type stores. But yeah, if you operate out of where you live, you don’t have much in the way of overhead expenses. I give folks credit for eking out a living rather than begging on the street.

Kevin, nope, I’m too old to be miserable. I’m going to try to be somewhat more disciplined in making healthy choices, but I’m not going to deny myself all the things I enjoy in my golden years. I’d rather be fat and happy.

Brian, actually, it was Swan who pointed out that litter-filled alleyway. She doesn’t like it either. It really is a cultural thing here, though. I’ve seen people in fancy cars toss their trash out the window, so it is not just the poor folks.
When I was a kid, TV was full of anti-littering commercials like the one with the crying Indian. It worked on me, when I was a smoker I wouldn’t even throw my butt on the ground. Of course, a good first step here would be to strategically place some trash cans around town. There is nowhere to conveniently dispose of litter.

Kevin, I don’t want to know how many minutes are left.
Well, I don’t like how the burning impacts air quality, but I enjoy not having to trudge through grass that is over my head. I just wish I understood the how and the why they do it.
I didn’t measure the new TV, but the box said it was 50″.
The fact that I turn one drink into three doesn’t make the unfair pricing any more palatable. I could buy a lady drink for that amount!
That’s the problem, the beer distributors can’t get it. For some reason it seems San Miguel stopped making Zero, but it’s weird that there has been no announcement or news about that published anywhere that I can find. Here’s what the AI search assistant just told me:

Kevin, yeah, what I meant is spreading those 97 calories out into the equivalent of three drinks. That reduces the alcohol content and takes me longer to finish than a bottle of beer. That’s the goal at least.

Kevin, no, I didn’t ask permission before sharing the correspondence. I’m confident neither she nor anyone who knows her will ever see it. And I didn’t use her name or photo. She is a native Filipina, and I also noticed how well she writes English. The experiences she has shared with me concerning her treatment in the public health sector are shocking in their incompetence and lack of concern for her suffering. Under the best of circumstances, chemotherapy is torturous, but when it is administered haphazardly, it can be as deadly as the disease it is intended to cure. She’s a woman of faith and a fighter, but damn, the deck is stacked against her.
Yeah, that time when Buddy ran away was when I first brought him home, and he was scared and confused. Now, he’s my loyal friend, and he awaits my return faithfully.

Brian, I’m not sure of your sources, but this article (one of many) says there has been a 12% reduction in the federal workforce under Trump.
Tariffs may bring manufacturing and jobs back to the USA, or at a minimum, provide leverage in negotiations.
Anyway, you are right, the conversation is better made over a beer or three. I know things are better now than they were and better than they would have been with an ignoramus like Harris in the White House. Still, I’m glad we are not as far apart on most issues as I feared we might be.

Abortion: Once the fetus can sustain life outside the womb, it has a right to life. It’s the woman’s call until that point. I’d favor an arbitrary law banning abortion after 90 days unless the mother’s life were in danger.
Trump’s accomplishments thus far: Securing the borders, deporting illegals, identifying fraud, waste, and abuse, reducing government bureaucracies, standing up for America’s interests on the world stage, freeing the people of Venezuela from cartel leadership, working on freeing Iranians, and maybe even Cubans soon.
Anyway, I’m getting what I voted for. If you think Kamala was a better choice, we’d best agree to disagree. Neither of us is going to change our minds.
Enforcement of immigration laws: Sorry, we are on opposite sides of this issue. And it has nothing to do with skin color; it is about being here illegally. So-called sanctuary states and cities exacerbate the enforcement problem. I’d love to see all the criminal aliens rounded up and shipped out.
Gun rights: The founders knew that an armed population was a means of preventing tyranny. I am adamant in maintaining my right to keep and bear arms. No one has argued that right includes weapons of mass destruction. The government should focus on disarming criminals, not law-abiding citizens. Its failure to do so speaks volumes. If Jee Yeun were stopped in SC, she’d whip out her Green Card. The Philippines doesn’t fuck around when it comes to immigration enforcement. The stick you in a crowded jail cell for months until they get around to deportation. Follow the rules, and you have nothing to worry about. This isn’t a race thing.
Free speech: As we witnessed during COVID, the government’s attempts to silence critics and people with opposing views were chilling. Saying masks are worthless and lockdowns are an illegal infringement does not equate to yelling “fire” in a theatre.
I love the tariffs! The USA has been getting fucked for ages, now it is our turn to say, America first, fuck yeah!
As for foreign relations, we are no longer the world’s footstool. I totally disagree with you on China. They are in a weaker position on the world stage thanks to us having an aggressive president.
Sorry, if you honestly believe we were better off economically under Biden, I can only shake my head and say, seriously?
I’m not a fan of Trump the man and wish he’d tone down his rhetoric, but his actions speak louder than words, and the results speak for themselves. And at least Trump never molested his daughter in the shower.

Brian, I don’t disagree that these days it is more about voting AGAINST someone than it is about supporting a candidate. I recall when it was Hillary versus Trump, I was thinking, “Who are you gonna choose, the crook or the clown?” I went with the clown and have been pleasantly surprised at his competence.
I’m curious, what do you consider the extreme positions on the right?

Kevin, you know it is not uncommon for me to use improper nouns. That sentence about the godmother felt off when I wrote it, but not about the capitalization issue. Now I see it was wrong on so many levels. Here’s my do-over:
“Swan is the godmother of that little girl. As a newborn, the baby’s mother, whom we’d only recently met while walking, asked Swan to be the godmother ($$$).”
As for the other error, upon further review, I missed the typo when I wrote “you” instead of “your.” I guess I was right to capitalize “Earth” based on the PTOSP on nouns you linked.
Breathless is a great name for a funeral parlor. I’m sure the clients can have whatever they want on the banner, but typos are free of charge!
That’s a Great mnemonic for Lakes, although my feeble brain couldn’t memorize that either.

Brian, what’s taking place in Iran certainly isn’t about American politics. Trump will not be re-elected. He saw a threat and diminished it. Now it is up to the Iranian people to exert their will if they desire freedom.
Regarding that vlogger, I have certainly witnessed no evidence that “tolerance for foreigners has decreased.” At least in my neck of the woods, we are still appreciated and treated with respect. But yeah, the fuck ups get what they have coming. As for the keeping up with the rest of SE Asia claim, I might have missed the context of his message. The PI has always lagging in infrastructure compared to places like Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia. The corruption is as rife as ever, and the ignorance and inefficiencies abound. I’m not seeing that as falling behind, just more of the same old, same old.
