Yep, sometimes even idiots like me get lucky. Ironically, I met Swan through Marissa, although we were just acquaintances until well after her long-time BF passed away. You never know what the future will bring.

Aaron, I rarely watch anything on TV, so it was disappointing. I mentioned it to someone last night, and he watched the entire series. He said the PC bullshit only came up rarely, and it was an enjoyable show.

Kevin, it’s hard to argue with the truth. While I appreciate the efforts you make to help me improve my writing, I can’t deny that I’ve failed to make a reciprocal effort at learning what you teach. I’ve always been lazy, and that has gotten worse now that I am an elderly retiree. That’s not an excuse; it is just an admission of fact. That said, it is not a joke when I mention my ongoing cognitive decline. Almost every day, someone greets me by name, and I am clueless as to who they are, let alone what their name is. So, recalling the rules and names of sentence structure five minutes after reading it is probably beyond my capabilities.
That said, I will continue to try to improve, but as you’ve noted, with minimal results. I appreciate your efforts and I am sorry to be a constant source of disappointment. I take no offense at your correcting me when I fail, but I also understand the frustration you feel when it seems I am unable or unwilling to apply your teaching. I’ll understand if you decide assisting me is a waste of time, but I sincerely hope you’ll continue to be a reader and commenter here.

Kevin, when you are commatose, sloppy writing just comes naturally. Once you point it out, it seems so obvious. Here are my rewrites:
I was going to get a haircut, but couldn’t be bothered. So I kicked things off at Sloppy Joe’s.
I had a bowl of sugar-free pudding, but wasn’t sleepy yet. So I grabbed a beer from the fridge and headed upstairs to The Rite Spot.
I tend to write like I talk and don’t always stop to think about proper punctuation. Surely you’ve noticed at least some slight improvement, right?
Yeah, “momsal” seems to fit. Doing better now, but I’m sure I’ll have momsal again at some point in my future.
Commas: If I need them, I miss them; if I don’t, I use them.

Drain, yeah, I’ve walked by those graves many times without noticing the significance of the date he died. I did another search today, but was unable to find anything about him. His being buried with his wife and kids sounds right to me, too.

Making steps in the right direction
Kevin, thanks for all that Ozempic information. I might have to consider doing my own injections down the road. Yeah, the challenge will be keeping the weight off, but maybe by then I will have overcome my addiction to sweet snacks. We shall see.
Yes, I recognized that error as soon as you pointed it out. My problem is that in my mind, I’m seeing/hearing/thinking the second predicate, but failing to hit the “I” on the keyboard. The quotation fuck-up was just bad proofreading.

Kevin, the error seems familiar. Either lose the comma or put an “I” after “but”.
I have no intention of making a lifelong commitment to Ozempic. Once I reach my weight goal, I will quit the drug and try to exercise enough self-discipline to maintain my weight. I just need a helping hand to get there.
Yes, Dr. Jo gave me the option of self-injecting. I’m too much of a wimp to poke a needle in my belly, though. Swan also declined to do so, so it seems a weekly visit to Dr. Jo is the way forward.
Who’ll get there first, Artemis or Musk?

Aaron, yes, I’ve always been a fan of Pink Floyd. I’d say “Dark Side of the Moon” is probably my favorite album. I’m sure I was stoned often when I listened to their music back in the day.

Brian, thanks for the Ozempic updates. It will be good to see the price come down. I’m impressed so far with the appetite suppression while I’m on the lowest dose. I asked Dr. Jo to look into the pros and cons of microdosing, but in the meantime, I’ll follow the suggested regimen. My plan is to achieve my target weight, then quit the drug and hopefully have enough self-discipline to maintain my weight.

Brian, that does make sense now that I think about it…it gets cold in the desert at night.
I’m not a big-city guy, but I was impressed by Bangkok, especially compared to a shithole like Manila. It’s not up to Seoul standards yet, but it is getting there. The only other place I’ve been in Thailand is Pattaya, but I’ve heard good things about Chiang Mai.

The only Hashers punished with time on the ice are the “socialites” who don’t do ANY of the trail and just come to the Circle. Shortcutters like me (and I’m far from alone) are acknowledged for at least making some effort. I reckon I do the full official Hash trail less than 20% of the time. On Monday, I just didn’t have it in me to do a climb at the end of the trail.

Yes, Swan is Catholic. She doesn’t attend Mass, but does other rituals. On Good Friday, she went to a shrine of the Virgin Mary with some friends. So, something more than name only, but not quite practicing.

Kevin, thanks for the etymology of Maundy and the lowdown of Holy Week. Back in my Pentecostal church-going days, I only recall Good Friday and Easter Sunday having any significance.
Even after almost eight years here in the Catholic Philippines, I am still impressed by the sight of the back-beaters and cross-bearers marching down the road. I also got to watch a huge foot parade on the shoulder of the National Highway pulling over 20 floats full of religious imagery, featuring that Jesus Christ guy that got murdered 2000 years ago.

Brian, I’m glad we can agree to disagree respectfully. We don’t need Iran’s oil, but we did need to put an end to their program to develop nuclear weapons and to stop their support of terrorist groups. I’d like us to open up the Hormuz Straight while we are at it, but I don’t disagree with Trump that our “allies” who rely on that passage for oil ought to be taking action on their own behalf.
