I’ve had just about enough

That, and something along the lines of “those grammar fascists”.

» Posted By Dan On 02/January/2020 @ 1:23 pm

If Grammarly was a German company you know what they’d be accused of.

Running dry

As a point of principle, I simply wouldn’t respond to someone weilding grammar that atrocious unless
A) They were demonstrably not a native English speaker or
B) It was part of an SOS message and lives were at stake.
Plus anyone who extends the number of ‘o’s in the word ‘so’ is usually out to mess with the adults.
Amusingly, of the countries the lying troll listed, one is a land of the coup where you’d better be polite in whatever you say about the king, one is still dealing with the social consequences of economic basketcasehood, and the other is kind of at war with Russia.
In conclusion, the Philippines is starting to look even better…

“If it ain’t white, it ain’t right”

“I’m old enough to remember when crossing the street to avoid a black man was considered racist.” And now it’s considered, what, …prudent?
Just kidding. Know what you meant to say.

Not according to plan

Literally how does it work that you can own / rent a house some place in full legal view but still be on a tourist visa? Methinks you are not stuffing the correctly breadthed envelope in the requisite bent pocket.
Stye solutions:
1. Activate the tear duct by watching movies that make you cry or laugh. This will stimulate a whole battery of ocular self defense mechanisms that will include mopping up operations of your excess sebum.
2. Run (or walk at a sweat inducing pace) until you cannot run/walk any more. I once had an eye bacterial infection, hated the thought of yet more meds and hey presto 9km on a treadmill got rid of it within 48 hours. (Drank beer during that period, too -not actually while on the treadmill- which is either proof that beer is good for the eye or that it has only an indifferent effect on eye infections.)
“Sour cream”, by the way, is a perfect sobriquet for the society you seem to be describing in this post.

So that was Christmas

Tossing free shit to anyone -unless it’s off the back of a UN truck while there’s a temporary lull in fighting during a war- provides the “tosser” with a God-like dopamine hit, be it benevolent or sick in intention. In some cultures, as they say, throwing objects to people as a means of transporting them is considered a no no act of disrespect, period. Of the three examples you give, however, the one where the young mothers and grandmothers in the bar scrabble around in high heels whilst the tossers get a better view of their fishnets feels even worse than the rapper distributing Benjamins to his peasants. And what’s more I’d like to thank you for providing the opportunity for me to dictate a little moral commentary. Keem em comin.

Do you hear what I hear?

I saw that pie and thought of a scene in a movie for adolescents. Merry Christmas!

Gifted

I THINK I prefer the photo with the handlebar mustache and redneck stare.

Party on my wayward son…

“Speaking of Pigs….” Great name for a bar or third album. You look unrecognizable between pics. Have to say I prefer the blue shirt in your walrus years to the one dollar Santa tee on the svelter version.

Hell, Mary

That’s got to be more alarming than the break-ins. Would keep me up for nights. Your rational self has been telling you for days now that, hey, “really amusing coincidence”. But the other part of you, the part that KNOWS -well, that part of you has been dreaming of confessing ever since you hit the jungle floor.

Unf’n believable

We’re gonna need a bigger dog.

The needle and the damage done…

Penultimate photo genuinely impressive. Upload it to pixabay with a demand for accreditation if used.
I’m no anti-vaxxer but I simply wouldn’t bother with those supplementary rabies jabs. More poison than good.

I’m fed up, so bite me

With that mutt’s past form I’m surprised man hasn’t Duterted his ass. Anyhow pretty sure if you’d contracted rabies you’d already be experiencing early hallmark symptoms, such as religious themed Marianic steet hallucinations and neuroligical symptams like misreeding simpul wods.

The guy drinking beer at 07:30…I want to be that guy!

There are those that might observe the sheer quantity of alcohol consumption and question the healthfulness of the Philippine expat lifestyle. I would not be one of them. But with all the vitamin d from the sun and all the walking and all that clean bucolic air, isn’t it also excellent restitutional therapy for those with conditions like arthritis…?

The breast of times

“Here lies John Archilbald McCrarey. He liked women just fine. Even tattooed prostitutes.”

Eisoy pisoy

“Hashing originated in December 1938 in Selayang Quarry, Selangor, then in the Federated Malay States (now Malaysia), when a group of British colonial officers and expatriates began meeting on Monday evenings to run, in a fashion patterned after the traditional British paper chase or “hare and hounds”, to rid themselves of the excesses of the previous weekend.[1] The original members included Albert Stephen (A.S.) Ignatius “G” Gispert, Cecil Lee, Frederick “Horse” Thomson, Ronald “Torch” Bennett, Eric Galvin, H.M. Doig, and John Woodrow.[2] A. S. Gispert suggested the name “Hash House Harriers” after the Selangor Club Annex, where several of the original hashers lived and dined, known as the “Hash House”.[3][4]”
Well, I didn’t know that…

Sundown

Surely the wisdom of your years has taught you by now that the failings of your interpersonal relationships are entirely due to the other person. I adopted that working maxim years ago and have found the level of my average daily mood to be somewhere around soaring.

» Posted By Dan On 05/December/2019 @ 12:47 pm

…that should read “So your bad mood…”

» Posted By Dan On 04/December/2019 @ 9:27 pm

Do your bad mood was related to the Mother Fucker?

Home sweet home

Two great pics. But the path you are taking those dogs down literally looks like The Road to Nowhere. I suggest you open a bar round the corner there and name it that.
Any news on Graham?

Time travel

“One dead, one in jail, a couple deported, others went home.” Great last line for a novel. Isn’t the Philippines a decent jumping off point to visit countries other than South Korea? Taiwan and Singapore are much nearer and I happen to know both offer the kind of watering holes that pin dart boards to their walls. And check out the new Netflix documentary about Bikram the yoga school founder while anywhere.

Only in the Philippines

It’s also the only country in the world to be named after a kind of pine.

Humping it

Phds must have been done/should be done on the comparatively earlier mortality rates among expat males. What causes it? Don’t wish to besmirch your passed away pals but one cannot say that he looked younger than his years (if he is only 46 in that pic). But it’s not only self care. There’s a general lack of attention paid to the state of the aging body. Definitely one factor in the Philippines could be the absence of regular basic check ups.

A captive audience

You’ve been burgled and you’ve been detained by the world’s 38th most powerful navy for trespassing on their land. All in the space of a week. Pretty soon this blog will have to become a book.
By the way, any news on Graham?

A breakfast controversy

Have to say I see it their way. You are effectively expecting a kind of free for all buffet serving pertaining to each food item. The clue is in “build your own”. The building blocks of most all things are comprised of basic units of one. Though a single rasher of bacon is a tad mean, I agree. Next time clarify, quantify, and simplify.

Eye in the sky

This incident sure would have a comically symmetric narrative if it transpired the American with the sideline in home security had paid 2 bumbling dudes to do some light pilfering in order to drum up business. Very Ellmore Leonard.

I am I said

‘The sanctity of my home was violated’….
Solutions:
1. Move
2. Bigger dogs, more weapons
3. Investigate (complicated: collusion between perp and ‘guard’ is not exclusively a Philippine sitch but things could get messy)
4. Polis. Surprised you didn’t get them involved. Though fear of bringing attention to yourself is understandable.
5. Time.
I strongly recommend the last. The stinking sense that someone uninvited has trodden on your carpets will be literally washed away with cleaning agents and figuratively bleached out by the process of time. Every 24 hour period you can put between yourself and the incident will serve to reassure. Being of mature years, you understand the idea of ‘closure’ is a fraud perpetrated by Hollywood and Wall Street to divest agency from the common voter. So you won’t be hoping for that. But you shall -I’m gonna put a frame on it and guess 6 -10 weeks- experience a wary shoulder shrugging fuck you to the whole shock. Just don’t get complacent…

Hot Dog!

“Steve, the Englishman who doesn’t drink…” there’s something bluntly passive aggressive about this locution and characterization, as if you are not only impugning Steve for his temperance but also expressing implicit surprise that the world does indeed play host to an Englishman who doesn’t consume alcohol and, more to the point, while living in an iniquitous expat home like the Philippines. I think if you just get to know him a little more, you may find there is a very good reason Steve the Englishman who doesn’t drink doesn’t drink, such as he doesn’t like the taste of got too shoehorned one night and lost his rainy day savings to a wicked hostess. Try to find out and let us know. Thanks…

Well, I’ve never been to Spain…

Once again, poor Graham’s dire fate buried amidst news of two competing bars’ relative merits. I hope he had a long innings. But if he was in the business of running a bar in east Asia, he probably hadn’t. The author says tomorrow may not come. Problem is, it may very well. But you won’t recognise your surroundings or anyone in them.
