We began our morning at La Paz Beach in San Narciso with the complimentary breakfast included with our room at the Mope Resort. I had pancakes and Swan some Filipino delicacy. Both were good. Then we headed out for a morning walk.

After some blogging and a nap, we checked out, had lunch, and awaited the arrival of our friend Michael.

It was a bit after five when we got back to the house, and the power was still out. So, we dropped off our bags and rode back to Barretto with Michael. We invited him to join us at Sloppy Joe’s, and he was game. He’d never been there and was impressed. Then I took him upstairs to see the even better-appointed BarCelona and he really liked that ambiance, especially the rooftop. Next, we popped into Green Room, where Michael had one for the road, then said goodnight. We stuck around for a while more before catching a trike home and calling it a night. The power (and water) had been restored. And there you have it, things are back to normal around here once again.
Still strolling through March of 2010 in the LTG archives. I gave a birthday shout-out to my son Kevin in this post. All these years later, I’ve been ghosted. Love is not always reciprocated.

Today’s YouTube video features an expat vlogger who resides in Da Nang, Vietnam, and shares the pros and cons of living there. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and hope to return someday. If I were to move there, I think I’d prefer the smaller town vibe of Hoi An. Not that it matters, I expect Barretto is where I’ll die.
Here’s your daily dose of humor:

And so it went, and so it goes. I’m gonna keep at it.

You’ve been in Asia too long if you’re eating and then walking right afterward. I can’t do that. Gotta rest and digest first.
Strolling down the beach road.
She reminds me of my buddy JW, essentially strolling by herself. JW used to zoom ahead and walk alone, hesitating only when he got to intersections; it was enough to make me wonder why he even bothered to call me to go on a walk together. We never walked together.
The remnants of a dream.
Carcosa!
When I did this a few months ago, it was 29K. Yesterday’s measurement was 32 kilometers. So, my future walk just got longer.
What changed the measurements? 32K is close to the 33K I do when walking from Yangpyeong to Yeoju. That’s mostly flat ground except for one big hill about an hour into the walk.

I’m sure he still loves you, even if he won’t admit it, but maybe he’s turned off by the rampant, May-September perviness constantly going on in the Philippines. I still find it off-putting. But hey, I get it—if it’s a choice between chasing young pussy or rotting away in a piss-smelling old-folks’ home…
long time reader, recently an occasional visitor.
did I miss something? each time there seems to be quite a lot of rambling nonsensical comments left by AI. Given that on your blog you’d have to approve those comments, is it a willful strategy to engage and even reply to these bots? Perhaps you’re making overtures to our new robot overlords.
Sorry to hear about the ghosting. But I am sure life on both sides of the oceans is going swimmingly well. Your friend looks quite lithe and lean; perhaps he can persuade you to join him from sometimes instead of doing this hash drug 🙂 that the bots have been warning you about .
I’m guessing that this low season in Barretto will be even emptier if you’re already having power outtages. Tornadoes and hurricanes haven’t even made their appearance yet so this is the time for tourists to take advantage of lower prices , and yet it seems like they didn’t show up in huge numbers.
I look forward to seeing your bar hopping trips in the low season, especially since there are many new bars and restaurants
Thanks for keeping up with the writing. You’re a paragon of consistency
James, thanks for following the blog and your comments. The AI comments are a relatively new phenomenon. I approved them at first, but some of my regular readers found them off-putting, so I discontinued doing so. I highlighted some excerpts of deleted comments I found hilarious in their stupidity (Artificial Intelligence, indeed) in a post, but that won’t be a regular feature here at LTG.
HaHa! The friend you mention is a fellow Hasher and hiker, so the AI would want to rehabilitate him as well.
The scheduled outages are for maintenance and repairs, once we have storms the power will go out unannounced. That sucks even more.
This year seems like one of the worst for tourist trade, and frankly, us expats aren’t enough to keep all the local businesses going. I expect unless something changes soon we will see a big shakeout coming.
Lately I’ve been in a same old, same old rut, but I’ve been thinking about taking one day a week to visit random bars I don’t normally patronize to keep my loyal readers like you informed. Stay tuned.
Kev, I’ve always been an eat and then walk kinda guy. Never been a problem for me.
Regarding the walking together thing, that photo is misleading. I’m usually in the lead because Swan walks slower than I do. When I pause to take a picture, she’ll zoom by, but I catch up pretty quickly. About the only way we stay side-by-side is when I grab her hand.
I’m not sure why the distance measurement from San Narciso to my house changed. We didn’t take the bypass road, but I always assumed that was a longer route. Oh well, I’ll just have to psyche up for 30+K. I’m thinking 10K interludes with a rest break in between. The nice part of a highway walk is the ability to grab a Jeepney ride if I need to bail.
Well, I know my boy disapproves of my politics, and his wife doesn’t want my grandkids to discover my blog, probably because of the lifestyle things. But yeah, you hit the nail on the head. Barretto is my retirement community, full of bars and young women willing to lend a helping hand to the aged. A stateside old folks’ home would be a nightmare for someone like me. Imagine me living in a world with no bars!

Psych, no “e.” Psyche is pronounced “SIGH-kee” in US English.
I’m thinking 10K interludes with a rest break in between.
If the rest breaks are in between, then those are the interludes (hence “inter,” between… and for what it’s worth, the Latin ludus means “play”; think “ludicrous,” i.e., laughably ridiculous). So: 10K segments with resting/restful interludes.
Don’t grab that Jeepney! Commit! I kid. If I’m feeling pooped during what’s normally an easy walk, I tend to give up, too. It doesn’t happen often, but every once in a while (maybe 2 or 3 times thus far since 2017), I’ll have an off day.
I’ve always been an [eat-and-then-walk] kinda guy. Never been a problem for me.
In more ways than one, your biology makes no damn sense.
Damn, I keep getting worse and worse. Maybe I need to take an interlude and see a grammar psych-ologist.
Yes, the Jeepney option is just for the comfort of knowing I can quit if needed. I think that will actually help me keep going when fatigue sets in.
It may not be biology; it could be the beer! 🙂
