Just a quick post before I head out to assist the Hare in marking the trail for today’s Hash. He asked if I’d help and I’d just as soon do trail in the morning as I would this afternoon.
Last night saw me back at Cheap Charlies. Thus far in the battle of the bars, I’m finding my comfort level higher in the familiar surroundings of CC. Plus I got a nice back rub from Maya in exchange for a couple of lady drinks. That’s about as good as it gets! Well, it gets LOTS better in my fantasies, but you know what I mean.
So, I just discovered that I can post GIFs here. I guess I’m a sick bastard, but this one cracked me up.:
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for now.
I’ve been trying to figure out what that procession was all about, but I’ll have to keep on searching. October is a month for Catholics to celebrate the rosary, apparently. October 28 is the feast day of St. Jude Thaddeus. If your pic was taken the previous day, then October 27 was the feast day for St. Frumentius (who?), among others (many saints appear to share feast days). The PI has some gigantic, country-wide processions that occur at special times of the year, but I still couldn’t tell you what this specific procession was about. If it features the Blessed Virgin up at the front, it’s probably something Marian (duh), but that’s all I can tell you.
Interesting. I know All Saints Day on the first is a big one. My first trip to Cebu I arrived on Thursday preceding Good Friday. Everything was closed. When I asked what was going on I was told “Maudy Thursday sir”. I was raised Christian but I’d never heard of that before.
Just one of the “percs” that comes with living in a religious country I suppose…
Ah—Maundy Thursday? Yeah, it’s part of the Triduum (3-day sequence) of Holy Week. According to folklore, the word is a corruption of the French word maudit (pronounce it “moh-DEE”), which means “cursed,” but Dictionary.com supplies the technical etymology:
1250–1300; Middle English maunde < Old French mande < Latin mandātum command, mandate (from the opening phrase novum mandātum (Vulgate) of Jesus’ words to the disciples after He had washed their feet). See mandate.
More on what is now more commonly called Holy Thursday here. The relationship with Maundy/commandment is that Jesus, at the Last Supper, commanded his disciples to love each other and remember his teachings.
Thanx for the dog pic. What can I say,I like dogs more than people. Their love is unconditional. Don’t care what you look like or how much money you make or what kind of car you drive or what neighborhood you live in or if you took a shower today or 2 weeks ago. Try finding a woman like that. I leave the house for 5 minutes and when I come back through the door my 2 dogs act like I just came home from a combat tour in Afghanistan. The yobo has never got excited like that or peed on the floor when I came home(that I’m aware of). so keep them pics rolling, Rawhide. Peace out!
Good stuff, Kevin. I learned more from your comment than I did in all those years of Sunday school growing up.
Soju, yeah dogs are amazing. Buddy literally stands on his hind legs and gives me a hug when I come home. Doesn’t give a shit if I’ve had too much to drink either! Now that is love!
