Missing my mama

She’s been gone eleven years now. You never forget a mother’s love though.

She loved being a grandmother and my kids loved her just as much.
We celebrated the 50th anniversary of her marriage to my dad on Catalina Island off the coast of California.
Breakfast at Cracker Barrel in the end years.
With her favorite son on the Kern River back in 1958 or so…
Camping and fishing were a big part of my life growing up…
Me and my older brother chillin’ with the parents…
Before she was my mom.
Mom’s three sons.
The last photograph I ever took of my mom. She was happy to have her two sisters join her for a final visit before she died.

Thank you for this life you gave me. You are gone but never forgotten. I love you.

  1. Respect to your mom.

“Camping and fishing were a big part of my life growing up…”

Yeah, about that. What happened? You walk by tons of streams; you hike all those mountain trails and pass through forests; you find yourself quite often at the beach… never a desire to fish or camp?

I was never a fisherman. I think I caught exactly one fish in my youth, and if I remember correctly, I had to throw it back for being too small.

  2. A mother’s love is beyond compare…I miss mine too …she passed away when I was in Korea 2015…never seen her again after I left for Korea 1998…bliss their hearts.

  3. Kev, I grew up relatively poor, so camping was about all my family could afford. We’d fish for trout in the river and the catch was what we had for dinner. It wasn’t a bad life. I continued the tradition through my 20s. I did get to the point where I enjoyed just sitting on the bank and enjoying nature as much as I did actually catching a fish.

I recall backpacking one year with my brother in Yosemite National Park. We had a bear encounter that first night and the next morning we hiked back out. Later that summer I took my wife and kids to Yosemite in a rented RV. Turns out I liked the easy way much better. Can’t remember the last time I slept in a tent.

While it is not exactly camping, I do enjoy the nipa hut/cooking out on the beach experience. And yeah, I’d probably go for that glamping experience in Korea you’ve written about.
