Just Keep The Change

So, about that Hash run yesterday. The Hare was Keep The Change, and I’d never done one of his trails before. I’d seen his posts on Facebook about Hash trails he’s done in Angeles City, so when I discovered he would be our Hare, I figured I would be in trouble. He makes Vienna Sausage, the most notorious Hare in Subic, look like a lightweight. I only did a portion of the ass-kicker, and then our “sane” group made our own way. So, it was a steep climb halfway up Kalaklan Ridge, and then we bailed and took a different path back down. I hiked the 2K to the start, so I managed a healthy six kilometers for the day.

Gathering at trailhead at Barretto High School
And we are On-On and on up
A long steep road to start things off. You can see BF’s Wet Spot is already struggling behind me.
The road ended and things got worse
At least this obstacle was easily overcome
Shit like this was more challenging. I was glad for the branches to hold on to so I wouldn’t fall
Steep it was
Plugging away
We waited quite a while for BF’s Wet Spot to catch up. She said she was dizzy and needed to stop and rest frequently. We were worried for her and decided not to continue the climb.
A view on the way down
Another abandoned dream
Back to civilization
It was a steep descent as well
Shoes on a wire. Haven’t seen that in a while.
On Home at Red Bar. Over fifty Hashers in attendance

We initiated a virgin Hasher. I don’t think she understood what was going on, but I made a video of the cringe anyway.

Damn, that was painful to watch. Sorry!

Always Wet got the Hashit this week.
Part of the after-Hash crowd at It Doesn’t Matter
The change I kept

After consuming my fill of Zeros, I grabbed Swan and we headed for home. My resistance was weak and I couldn’t say no to the dessert I was offered.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream

My Facebook memories took me on an interesting journey through the past today.

A high school graduate in 1973

I hired on as a letter carrier with the Postal Service in 1976.

And in 1985, I received my first promotion to management as a safety specialist

My next promotion as a labor relations representative took me to Columbia, SC.

I enrolled in the University of South Carolina and made the honor roll. Apparently, grammar didn’t count.
Two years later, it was the Dean’s List

Despite those accomplishments, I did not graduate from USC.

Instead, I finished my studies at Central Wesleyan College (now Southern Wesleyan University) and earned my degree in 1991, eighteen years after graduating high school.

This life of mine has been quite a ride. In February 2017, I wrote a post about resolving a dilemma and its painful results. It is a sad but worthy entry in The Story of My Life. All these years later, I still can’t bear to watch the video I included in that post.

Today’s YouTube video discusses plans to upgrade the former American Navy base in Subic to serve as a deterrent to Chinese aggression. Good luck with that. I’ve long felt that China is the biggest threat to freedom in the world today. Whether Trump can convince China to back off remains to be seen. Being killed during a Chinese invasion of the Philippines remains in the top ten ways I might die here.

Your daily dose of humor:

You might have better luck just looking in the window and watching what brand they use.
Just tell them to stick it up their ass, Anus.
At least she doesn’t have to go to her knees to please

That’s just about enough for one day, doncha think? Heading up to The Rite Spot later for a gathering with some of the neighbors. I’m sure you’ll hear all about it tomorrow. Y’all come back now.

  1. Looks to have been a good walk even with the shortcutting. What motivates some of these Hares to make such steep trails?

We’ll see, over the next few years, just how aggressive China gets on Trump’s watch.

  2. Looks like a good, albeit, tough trail. Unfortunate that your friend had some difficulty. But, if not used to steep trails + heat + humidity = not feeling good.

Curious how new hashers come into the group. You mention the latest one pretty much had no clue about what was going on. I would have assumed she would have known somebody who would have given her tips, etc. The Hash group doesnt seem like a group that someone would randomly join. #shrug

  3. Yep, China’s a huge threat.
Great time to butcher USAID and undermine US soft power in the region so China can waltz in and spread cash around for influence like in Cambodia and the Solomons. Also flip the script on Ukraine so US can be seen as an unreliable ally that’s not to be trusted anywhere. Biden just wasn’t weak enough.
And a dick-swinging contest with Canada and Mexico. Brilliant!
Your boy’s doing great on foreign policy. The world will love us. Maybe he can get a good deal from Lil’ Kim if he bails on South Korea. An exclusive ski resort or something.

  4. DS, Trump is a better option than Harris, and the majority of Americans agree with me on that.

If you are still defending the fraud, waste, and abuse of USAID, then you are willfully ignoring the truth.

I’m quite certain that Trump is a bigger deterrent to China than Harris would have been. Hopefully, they won’t FAFO.

  5. Brian, most of the time, new Hashers come along with a friend. When I lived in Seoul, I sometimes saw the local Hashers in the bars and had no desire to join them. I used to follow a vlogger from Barretto, who was a Hasher, and his videos made me want to try a trail. I did my first Hash on January 1, 2018, during my final trip here before the move. I still prefer the hikes to the Hash Circle rituals, but I do enjoy the beers!

The virgin this week came along with a Hasher friend, Lousy Blowjob, who hadn’t come to Hash for years. I guess she forgot to tell her friend what to expect.

  6. Kevin, I think the motivation of most Hares is to do the kind of trail they enjoy. KTC and Vienna Sausage like a challenge, and so make it challenging for everyone. My favorite Hares, like Leech My Nuggets, routinely make a difficult trail but include a “cripple trail” option for wimps like me.

I’m sure Trump is a bigger deterrent to Chinese aggression than Harris would have been.

  7. John, now that Trump is in office, “Harris would have been worse” may indeed be true but is utterly pointless. Trump’s in charge now and he’s fucking shit up. Does the number of people who voted for him somehow change that? Come on.
I have yet to see any credible report whatsoever of actual “fraud, waste, and abuse” at USAID. All I’ve seen is partisan voices claiming, and parroting without critical thinking, very vague allegations that amount to an ideological disagreement at best, or more likely just a load of baseless malarkey.
It’s much cheaper and easier to buy friends than kill enemies. And we tend to sleep better. This shit ain’t rocket science.
Unfortunate for the next generation that will be stuck with the tab.
Yeah, Trump’s a genius — at fooling folks who want to be fooled so they can feel good about voting for him.
    Cheers

  8. >DS, Trump is a better option than Harris, and the majority of Americans agree with me on that.

Putting on my @Kevin hat: Trump got a “plurality” of the vote, but did not get a “majority”. He received less than 50% of the votes cast. So, technically, the majority of voters did not agree. The majority voted for someone other than Trump. Same as in 2016 and 2020. LOL.

But, the election is over and I think that the good or bad any president does cannot realistically be assessed for at least 50 years. Gives time to look at things dispassionately rather than emotionally. E.g. tariffs – maybe short term good, long term terrible (or vice versa).

I think that Truman is a good example of that. During and immediately after his presidency, he was looked upon pretty unfavorably. With the passage of time, his terms are looked upon more favorably.

  9. Drain, if you haven’t seen the shit USAID was spending money on, you must not be looking. These links came up in my feed yesterday:

    Epoch Times

    DOGE

    Witness testimony

That should get you started. You are fooling yourself if you think exposing this fraud is bad for our country. This is just the beginning and I’m thankful Trump is in charge.

  10. Well, it’s semantics: Trump won the popular vote, and even the lefty Factcheck.org agrees:

President-elect Donald Trump is the first Republican presidential candidate to win the popular vote in 20 years. Social media users have wrongly claimed that Trump lost the popular vote, but they are confusing the popular vote with a majority of votes. The unofficial results show Trump received slightly less than a majority, but more votes than any candidate.

We are better off than we were under Biden, and I don’t believe anyone believes Kamala was a viable option. As you say, time will tell, but at least we are on the right path.
