Hope and Change

I hope you like the change here at LTG.

Yes, I’m talking about the new masthead design.  And yes, that was the change I mentioned was coming a couple of weeks ago.  Not anything major like some of you speculated perhaps, but after nearly 5 years I thought it was time for a new look.  I always envied the K-blogs with a cool Korea photograph as their masthead.  It just seems appropriate somehow.  So, when I saw this photograph:

I thought “hey, that would make a great masthead for my blog!”  If I am not mistaken, this bridge is called Hangang Taegyo (The Great Han River Bridge).  Originally built in 1917 and destroyed in the early days of the Korean War.  Rebuilt in 1958.  It is certainly not the most impressive bridge crossing the river, but there is an understated class and elegance about it, don’t you think?  Like an aging movie queen who maintains her dignity and grace.  Eh, I think that might be a tad over the top.  I just like the photo ok?

The photographer, Dave New, is a guy I’ve played darts with for years and in fact we will be teammates this season on the Rubbies.  He is *almost* as good at darts as he is with the camera.  Check out his impressive work here.  Thanks again Dave for allowing me to use your photograph!

So, what do you think about my new look?

  1. I LIKE IT!!! Who did you get to do the design? I think it’s probably time for a makeover at my blog, too!

  2. The new masthead is really nice. Great job. I haven’t commented lately. It’s been 100 degrees here in the Lone Star. I guess my brain has been on simmer.

  3. Hey, John. Couple questions. You’ve probably addressed this before and maybe I missed it, but wondering about your calendar in the upper right corner – where you run it from Monday through Sunday, versus the traditional Sunday through Saturday? Kind of unusual and am wondering – what’s up with that?

Also, I asked you about an ‘comments edit’ function a couplea times (not meaning to belabor the subject) and you replied that you are not that computer savvy, which I understand completely. But I note that you have the emoticons (faces) and somehow had to set that up, so am wondering if it’s not an admin plug in? In addition, lots of blogs allow selection of font, text size, boldness, italics, etc, which would be really excellent……..not so much the font etc, but the boldness, italics, etc would be really good to add meaning to the posts…….

Anyway, just hoping that since you were able to go in and make the excellent appearance changes that you recently made that you might look at it again, if ever a chance presents. Wouldn’t seem to be much harder that those changes were, but then, I’m probably not that informed on it anyway and anyway, you may not be interested……in which case I understand, yet again.

    Thanks and regards,

  4. Actually, the calender and emotocons came with the WordPress install, so I can’t explain why they are the way they are.

And I paid to have the new masthead designed/installed because that far exceeded my limited capabilities.

I will look around at the innards of this blog and see if I can find any plugins, but no promises…

  5. In any case……. good job ur doin and thanks for putting up with my near-on harping..
