I posted this on Facebook eight years ago today:
I’m postponing retirement until 2 January 2011. Need to regroup and replan.
That was the day I chose love over the Philippines. Eight times around the sun finds me living a loveless life in the Philippines. Funny (in a sad way) how that worked out.
Oh well. Today I’ve decided to make the best of what I do have. Which still doesn’t include running water inside the house. Looks like I’ll be booking another hotel room this afternoon.
Let’s see what happens next!
Is there anything that can be done to prevent water and power issues from plaguing you in the future? Not that such issues are 100% preventable even in the first world, of course…
Well, the smart ones have a back up generator and water storage tanks on the roof. I was considering the generator but had no idea water would ever be an issue. Hopefully after this “major fix” the water will be reliable.
Yeah, outages happen in the first world too. The difference is that in the USA they’d work 24/7 on the repairs. I don’t get the feeling that the same sense of urgency happens here.
John, had the same problem here in Los Banos with water during the week but it was fixed in about half a day when I wasn’t around. First time in 5 months I have experienced water outage which I didn’t expect …. power goes down on average once or twice a week but the generator kicks in almost straight away…..
Yeah, I take it a pipe somewhere burst and it’s a major fix, hence the delay. Surprisingly, my power has been pretty reliable. ZAMECO has a pretty good reputation as I understand it, at least comparatively speaking.
