And that’s all there was to it

Yesterday was a tad too much of nothin’ for my taste, but I was under doctor’s orders not to work up a sweat, and I did as I was instructed.

I don’t recall the last time I was this damn lazy

The day wasn’t a total waste, however. Once the sun was going down, we attended a gathering at the next-door neighbor’s house and filled some hours socializing.

The view from Jeff’s back porch
Vina manning (womaning?) the grill
Meat off the grill and onto the table
I had a burger on a bun but didn’t partake in the tater tots.
The group I had the pleasure to hang with last evening

Back home, I plopped my lazy ass down in front of the television and watched TWO episodes of “Squid Game.” Episode 7 was a tad strange as well as being bloody. The rich VIPs coming to witness the violence was more than the usual over-the-top this series seems to strive for. Episode 8 brought the number of remaining contestants down to two, and sadly, my favorite character isn’t one of them. The season finale is next, and I’ll be watching that as soon as I finish this post.

At least I didn’t overeat to compensate for my boredom

No Facebook memories worthy of note today, but I’ve been working my way through the LTG archives, and I came upon a post from twenty years ago talking about my experience after three months as a little read blogger. What triggered that post was getting my first and only “instalache” (a link from the wildly popular Glenn Reynolds blog, Instapundit). If you are curious, this is the post that got the link.

Politics or humor?

Or maybe I should just embrace the power of “and”…

I came across today’s YouTube video while reading a Philippines expat forum I’m a member of (PIatNight). Another sad tale of a foreigner who can’t afford to pay for the medical care he needs and is soliciting donations from the expat community. He wasn’t getting much sympathy from the folks at PIatNight. It’s true you should have a backup plan in place in case of a medical emergency. My health insurance from the USA isn’t accepted in my hospitals here (I have to pay and then submit for reimbursement), but if need be, I have a credit card I can use to pay for treatment. An interesting thing about the guy featured in this video is that he is a former champion powerlifter and even has his own Wikipedia page. Here’s hoping things work out for Kaz.

To the humor we must go:

I’m funny when you’re drunk!
Funny how that works
I sent this to my nephew and asked him if it was true. He denied it.

Okie dokie, it’s time to fire up Netflix and finish Season One of “Squid Game.” If you are curious as to why today’s post is coming so much later than usual, I had a day today completely opposite of yesterday’s nothingness. I’ll tell you all about that tomorrow!

  1. Re: Health issues. While I do feel bad for anyone having serious health issues, it is hard for me to have a lot of sympathy when they have to ask for money. Generally, their lack of money is due to decisions of their own making. See it in Thailand a fair amount. Most common is a motorcycle accident. “If you can, please send money to so and so. He was in an accident and didn’t purchase insurance and has no money for xxxxx”

I do donate to those in need but am pretty selective in how I give my money.

Good luck with the next steps with the eye.

  2. Episode 8 brought the number of remaining contestants down to two, and sadly, my favorite character isn’t one of them.

I knew it—you’re sweet on Sae-byeok (meaning = “dawn”), the North Korean defector with the little brother that she wants Gi-hun to take care of. She’s the one I called “underage” in a previous comment. Why “underage”? Because you’re almost 70, you lecher. Stop lusting after little girls. That’s the American left’s job.

You burned over 2300 calories after not even 1700 steps? Do tell. I’m not sure your various machines are giving you the true story. Or was “2346 calories” the figure for everything (activity + rest) by the end of your day? The screen does say “Yesterday,” after all. That might be plausible.

The rich VIPs coming to witness the violence was more than the usual over-the-top this series seems to strive for.

Did you enjoy the stilted dialogue as the foreign VIPs talked? I talk about them in my review. Nobody liked them, and a lot of people thought they almost ruined the show.

At least I didn’t overeat to compensate for my boredom

Congrats, I guess, but I’m starting to be leery of your devices’ and apps’ accuracy. Only the bathroom scale is to be trusted at this point.

My health insurance from the USA isn’t accepted in my hospitals here (I have to pay and then submit for reimbursement), but if need be, I have a credit card I can use to pay for treatment.

So as someone who is on a tourist visa, you can or can’t get Filipino health insurance? Or are costs generally cheap enough to be affordable for foreigners with money, even if they don’t have insurance?

“My boyfriend has a very small dick.”

Hey, at least you’re stickin’ with him, girlie. He must be good with fingers, lips, and tongue. A friend once looked at my large fingers and said, “Dude, you don’t even need a dick!” Personally, I don’t think my fingers are that big.

I had a day today completely opposite of yesterday’s nothingness. I’ll tell you all about that tomorrow!

We’re all waiting with balls on, I’m sure.

  3. Kev, Now, now. What I liked about “Dawn” was her spicy, no-bullshit attitude. She was pretty cute, though, now that you mention it. And I identify as a thirty-year-old–don’t be such a bigot! Age is just a number, after all. 🙂

My understanding is that the calorie burn tracked by my Fitbit is for everything- exercise and rest.

Regarding the rich VIPs, yeah, I couldn’t help thinking how did these idiots become filthy rich? You know when even I think a joke is lame, it has to be pretty bad. Yes, I read your review just before bed last night and concur for the most part. I’ll go back later and leave a comment with my thoughts.

I am eligible to purchase health insurance on a tourist visa, including the near-worthless PhilHealth national plan, but I’m okay for now with paying out-of-pocket. For something major, I’d likely go back to the USA for treatment anyway.

Geez, looking at your toes was bad enough–keep those fingers away from me!

  4. Brian, I agree with you. And it is not like people haven’t been warned or don’t know better. Yeah, a tourist on vacation who gets in an accident is different than long-term expats rolling the dice that they won’t encounter a serious medical issue requiring hospitalization. And many hospitals here won’t even admit you unless you demonstrate the ability to pay. That’s why I keep the credit card with a $15,000 credit line available.
