An okay Hash

Nothing special, but I’ve had worse. My biggest gripe was that the first portion of the trail was not well-marked, and my group ended up missing a turn, requiring us to backtrack. Otherwise, just the familiar, but not boring, My Bitch, for most of the trail. I lengthened the adventure by 2K when I started from my house.

I got a little tired on the way to the start.
The Hare, Buddy Fucker, telling us where to go.
Off we go!
Passed through Mountain Mama Onelia’s place.
There’s that mountain again.
Branching out.
Marching onward.
A Subic view.
And that town they call Barretto.
Why, yes. Yes, we are.
The gathering of Gash at the On-Home venue, Bella Monte hotel.
Circle up!
Cums Alone got recognized for her 50th run with the SBH3.
And Buddy Fucker got a Hashy birthday cake.
The “official” Hash trail, with long (6K), and short (4K) variants.
My variant was just shy of 6K.
The after-Hash at It Doesn’t Matter.
Our tab included food and drinks for the IDM crew.

And that’s the way this week’s Hash went down.

Speaking of down, we still have no water, and if the Alta Vista guards are correct, we may not have service restored for two or more weeks.

Pouring a bucket of cold water over my head is something I dread. I may need to make plans for an emergency trip out of town.

From the LTG archives in February 2013, proof that bad poetry and bad darts go hand-in-hand.

Today’s YouTube video also comes from the LTG archives. In it, I document the life I was living in Korea over the preceding six months. It makes me sad to see how happy I was, if that makes any sense. In the screenshot below, Bridget is dead, Jee Yeun is gone, and I haven’t seen or heard from my other teammates in years. Life is like that, so enjoy it while you can.

I could use some humor about now:

Caring is sharing.
Shocking!
Oh, shit!

So much for yesterday, now it’s time to get on with today.

  1. Branching out.

Damn, that’s just a branch? Looks like the whole tree except for the root system.

Cums Alone got recognized for her 50th run with the SBH3.

Congratulations. And to think she started off not wanting to do this sort of walk. You’ve changed her, and she’s changed you. Whatever her previous guy had brought into her life, you’ve managed to bring something new and different. Not a bad thing at all.

Speaking of down, we still have no water, and if the Alta Vista guards are correct, we may not have service restored for two or more weeks.

Definitely get a sun shower, or get used to sponge baths. Of course, the original “Sun Shower” (seems to be gone now—I see only listings for “solar shower” and “camp shower”) had that brand name because it hung out in the sun and warmed up, giving you a warm (but not golden) shower. If you were to use it indoors, warm water would not be assured unless you warmed your water up before putting it in the shower bag. If you’re OK with showering in front of the neighbors, you could hang the thing outside, let it warm up, then shower in just your shorts the way people do beachside in the States.

  2. Bloody McCrappies…..If only you’d listenined to old Dr Greg when he told you to put a fukken tank on ur bloody roof…..
Mate…I’ve seen the ample size of your buttocks, and can safely say .you’d better rig something up chop chop….Once that crack starts acvumulating 2 weeks of crust and smeg, your Mrs is out the door faster than u can say “Maria Gloria Macaraeg Macapagal-Arroyo”,!
Get the fukken tank, ya numpty. And a generator!!

  3. John mate why not buy a water tank mate like one other commenter told ya to before mate seems ya stubborness to listen to people mate will be your undoing mate just saying mate cheers mate cheers

  4. RE; Hash Trail
Has any Hare ever marked the trail on an app, such as All Trails, and then shared it with the group? Seems like this would be a logical thing to do. The trail can also be physically marked, but others could have it on their phones, and this would hopefully alleviate missed turns, etc.

Im sure that half the fun is following the markings, but seems to lead to a lot of bitching also. #shrug

    Re: water problems.
Bummer. Are there any fitness clubs in town that may have a locker room/shower facilities?

  5. Dr Greg Williamson and Aaron if John wants to live in a skin of filth and reek to high heaven of sweat and whatever atrocities he’s eaten that day it is his own gosh darn business! Just because he never follows the advice of others doesn’t mean he ain’t listenin’! The sooner you lot think of John as a retarded man-child the better dammit!

  6. Brian, well I often see a map of the trail before hand, but that’s pretty useless when you are on a narrow dirt path and come to a junction, the maps are not detailed enough to follow precisely. When I Hare, I always try and mark any intersection so there is no question about which was to proceed. A well-marked trail is fun and easy to follow.

Heh, you’ve seen how I look, so no, I have no knowledge of fitness facilities around town. My plan now is to get used to sponge bathing, rent a hotel room every few days, and/or go out of town for a bit.

  7. Aaron, a water tank is good for a short outage, but when there is no water for weeks, the tanks can’t fill the void. My neighbor told me his tank is already almost empty after two days.

  8. Dr. Greg, a tank is a good thing…for a day or two, but not for weeks of no water. I’ll try not to stink too bad but taking sponge baths and suffering cold buckets of water over the head. I’m also thinking this is a good excuse to get the hell out of town some.

  9. Kevin, yeah, I took poetic license calling that a branch. It is a fallen tree, so it has numerous branches.

Yes, it is nice that Swan and I share some mutual interests. I really enjoy having a hiking partner. I am also happy that she is my drinking companion. I smiled to myself at IDM on Monday when SWAN bought all the girls a lady drink. A chip off the old block!

Nope, not too interested in showering outside. I’ll just have to tough it out with cold water buckets, supplemented by the occasional hotel room. It’s funny, one of the neighbors posted a link to that “solar shower,” but said he wasn’t getting one.

I can only speak to something like “All Trails” but in that app, I can set a trail, share with someone, and my path is highlighted. If a person walking my trail starts to deviate from my highlighted trail, it will let me know that I have left the trail. You can zoom in as much as you can on a satellite view.

I dont know what the distance is before it notices. It may be 100ft, 100 yards.

Of course, everyone would have to have the same app. I am sure that would lead to a whole new set of bitching from people about “why didnt you use App X instead of App Y, etc.” LOL

  11. Brian, ah, okay. I wasn’t familiar with that app. Sounds way cool, but I doubt many Hashers here would use it. Do you need a connection for it to work? Some of those rural areas have spotty coverage?
