The deep end of the pool

Do they make a pill to help you grow? No, I’m not talking about Viagra.

Thanks for the weight-loss advice in the comments yesterday. I was happy to see a measure of progress when I tried on some of the shorts from my “doesn’t fit anymore” shelf—and by golly, I could button them again!

More of the same around here yesterday, but that’s a good thing. I led the Wednesday Walkers on a nice valley hike, and it turned out to be quite pleasant and mostly dry. When we completed our journey, the group joined me upstairs at The Rite Spot On The Roof for some food and liquid refreshments. Good times! I need to visit The Rite Spot more often.

Heading out through Alta Vista with my fellow Wednesday Walkers: Swan, Erik, George, and Steve.
Pausing to pose with Easter Mountain in the background.
Heading down to San Isidro.
Did somebody say, “Lollipops!”
It’s drying rice on the road season again.
Enjoying some shade.
We can’t see the valley for the trees.
Ah, there it is.
The ass-side of Easter Mountain.
Even the rice paddies were surprisingly dry.
As were were leaving the valley we did encounter this wet spot. Mostly went around it, but eventually had to make a jump crossing. Some of us made it, some of us got wet feet.
Heading back up to Alta Vista near the endo of our excursion.
The route of our 6K journey.
Chillin’ at The Rite Spot after the hike. Swan cooked up some sausages served on a bun that the group seemed to enjoy.

So, my new Wednesday evening activity is participating in the Alaska Club 9-ball pool tournament. Two hundred peso entry fee, and comes with a free beer.

Let’s get it on!
The format is best out of three, double elimination. So, I played two matches, and went 0-4.

That said, I didn’t embarrass myself. Much. And it is a pleasant way to pass some time while engaged in the serious work of consuming San Miguel Extra Light beers. I did well at that!

I was eliminated from the competition just before 8 p.m., so we went next door to Wet Spot for our nightcap.

Some of the Wet Spot dancers. A big-spender customer brought down quite a few of the others for lady drinks.

Anyway, just the usual chill times during our visit, then having achieved my 9 p.m. goal, we made our way safely home via tricycle. And so ended another day in the life.

One of my charity projects, a cancer patient in Manila, is now in the hospital awaiting surgery. She messaged me that her doctor suggested “palliative care.” I told her not to give up the fight. Hoping for the best, but she’s not looking good.

She’s strong in her faith and wants to live. Hoping she gets the treatment she needs.

So, I took the bait from Facebook’s Meta AI yesterday when it suggested turning this photo of me from 1979 into a comic strip:

Ah, the good ol’ days. Wish I could go back an live them again.

Anyway, here’s what Meta AI created for me:

Well, that doesn’t look anything like me, and I didn’t find the comic particularly enjoyable. Still, the book I was actually reading back in 1979 was one from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The AI didn’t know that, of course, but when you think about the world Tolkien created, it makes the comic work better.

From the November 2022 LTG archives, a couple of posts that capture my then current state of being. I received a bluntly honest message from Lydell that led me to conclude that pursuing a relationship with her was a waste of time. In the post about the Hash outstation in Pundaquit, I found myself hiking a trail I had shared with the woman I had loved and lost the previous year. Of course, the path in life I ultimately wound up taking led me to Swan, so all’s well that ends well.

What was, and was not meant to be.

In today’s YouTube video, the vlogger recounts an encounter with a woman at the mall. Seems to me he overreacted, all he needed to do was say, “Sorry, I’m with my wife.” I’ve never really been into the freelancer scene, but I’ve heard lots of stories of guys going to the mall looking for a woman to hook up with. I guess it’s cheaper than paying to take a gal out of the bar, but it also seems to be risky business. Anyway, welcome to the Philippines.

Let’s get these out of the way:

It’s all a matter of perspective.
Yeah, I read it right which was wrong.
Oh, shit! I hate when that crap happens.

Had enough? Me too! Let’s try again tomorrow.

It’s 1958, let’s have some Tequila:
