Back home, I baked up a batch of brownies to bring to the birthday celebration at Alley Hideout for long-time darter Amelia.
After the party, we stopped by Gold Bar. Deader than ever. 6:30 on a Friday night, and not a single dancer on the stage. Well, I guess there is no point when there is no one to dance for. So, we moved on down the road and had some quality time at Queen Victoria. It was like night and day between those bars. Manager Jake bought me a beer, so I wound up staying a bit later than normal. It’s all good!
A couple of commenters shared their views that the COVID nightmare wasn’t really a scam. I respectfully disagree. Fauci’s lies have been exposed, and his diary proves he knew he was lying. Reading my posts from 2020, I was calling bullshit on the lockdowns and other stupidity from the beginning. Now, I’m not denying that COVID wasn’t a real thing. Hell, it was invented in a lab in China. I’m also not saying that it was intentionally released. But the severity of the virus was overstated so all the restrictions that followed could be implemented. And I also know the casualty numbers were overstated. Either that, or COVID cured the flu, since during the COVID outbreak, no flu fatalities occurred. I know firsthand about a guy here in Subic who had a massive heart attack and was dead on arrival at the hospital. Guess what? The next day, it was reported as a COVID death. Nope, I’m sticking to my scamdemic assessment.
Anyway, believe whatever you choose. I hope no one will be fooled into trusting the “experts” again. Never forget.
Speaking of 2020, here’s another post from December in the LTG archives. No, it is not about COVID, although I do mention that someone ratted out the bars. The part I found interesting was that I learned indirectly that my neighbor’s husband was accusing me of paying his wife for sex! Hell, I had the good sense to NEVER get physical with her at all. And as I say in the post, if I were going to pay for sex, I had a lot better options. Fortunately, nothing ever came of the false accusations,

John, I think you are missing my (and maybe Drain Snake’s) point. I am not arguing the some deaths were mislabeled as COVID when they were actually something else.
But, you can’t ignore the fact that in the US, there were more than 1MM deaths in 2020, 2021, and 2022 compared to previous years and succeeding years. (2019 = 2.8MM deaths, 2021 = increase 3.6 MM deaths, 2023 = decrease to 2.9 MM deaths).
The same for the PI. Pick any country, check the numbers and show one where 2020-2022 did not show an uptick in deaths that does not correlate to normal trends.
Something caused those extra deaths. If not COVID, what was it?
Again, I think mistakes were made, but to say that COVID is/was no big deal is a bit naĂŻve. Interesting discussion, but I don’t think that you are going to change your mind, (even though you are wrong. LOL. Just joking!!).

Agree to an extent, but I mentioned before and I think you agreed, that western- Filipina relationships are no more likely to succeed vs. a western-western relationship.

I’m on your side with the covid nonsense. At the time, I was 2 years from retirement at a company with more than 100 people. If you remember, Dementia Joe was going to force the vaccine on us. I was ready to give the job up. Luckily, the Supreme Court put a stop to that. I feel vindicated now that Fauci has been exposed. Not against vaccines BUT normally it takes 10 to 15 years to develop one. The first covid vaccine was developed in less than 12 months. I refused to become a guinea pig. Never had the shot. Had covid twice. Sick for a few days and then I recovered and I’m no spring chicken.
Many folks, including many in government and media, conflate deaths of people who tested positive for Covid with deaths FROM Covid.
It’s not that simple. Many people who would have died anyway also had Covid when they died. Many who would have otherwise survived died because Covid compounded other health problems. And plenty died of Covid, period. People don’t all run the same. We’ll never know the true numbers for each category.
Most reasonable people now understand that governments overreacted to Covid and that there was also lots of unscrupulous profiteering.
But the notion that “the severity of the virus was overstated so all the restrictions that followed could be implemented” is venturing far into a tunnel of batshit. To really believe that, you’d have to believe that various governments conspired to implement repressive restrictions that caused economic havoc and fomented unrest because…. why? Just to be repressive? So big pharma could profit while the tax base crumbled?
Come on. There was a rapidly evolving pandemic of unknown scope and duration, there was panic and overreaction, there was stupidity, and there was resentment, anger, paranoia, and nonsense.
And there has been exploitation of all of the above.

Precisely. Couldn’t have said it better myself. Except for the Swedish government, which instituted no restrictions on the population and had a lower death rate.

Glad you were able to dodge the vaccination. I had no choice when my visa expired. My anti-vax doctor told me Sinovac was my best option since it was less likely to have life-changing repercussions. I’m still standing!

Yep, it depends on the individuals in the relationship. I might argue that Filipinas are more tolerant because they have more to lose if the “rich” foreigner bails on them.

I am glad you agree that COVID was deadly. LOL. However, just because you survived COVID and know another person who had COVID and neither of you died does not mean squat. One (or two) data points does not prove a point. That would be like someone saying, “I smoked for 30 years and have not developed lung cancer. Therefore, smoking is not bad for you.” Or, “I didn’t wear a seatbelt as a kid, and I am still here. Therefore, seatbelts do nothing to save lives.”

Economically, and from a mental health perspective, I agree with you. From a medical perspective, I believe it was pretty much a net neutral. Didn’t help, but didn’t hurt.
You may want to check your data on Sweden. # of deaths 2019 = 88K. 2020 = 98K, 2021 = 92K. More than a 10% increase in 2020.
Anyway, I will never be convinced that there was some concerted worldwide effort to F people over. Knee jerk reaction that, in hindsight, was overblown? Yes. Worldwide conspiracy? Not a chance. To what end? For example, I think Trump would have been re-elected in 2020 if COVID had not tanked the economy. So, if there was some sort of conspiracy, what was the benefit to him? And he was not the only leader of a country that was voted out of office as a result of COVID.
Brian, we’ll bury that dead horse for now. Every day, new facts are coming out that reaffirm what I believe was the wrongness of forced vaccinations and other restrictions on freedoms.
