My life isn’t all about beer; there’s also daily hiking. Yesterday’s adventure with Swan took us to the far side of Subic town for our Philseco Road loop.

The Jeepney ride out to Philseco was a tad on the unusual side.

And then a couple of passengers boarded near the Subic marketplace. One of them was an older woman who sat down across from me, then started saying how much she loved and wanted me. Yeah, obviously mentally ill. I just ignored her until we got to our stop. Swan thought it was funny.

So, we decided to pay a visit to Sloppy Joe’s to begin our evening out. There was a large gathering in remembrance of Sloppy’s founder, Joakim. The bar has a new owner, and last night was the last in its present iteration. It will undergo massive renovation and is scheduled to reopen in three weeks. Will be interested in seeing the changes.

Next stop, Sit-n-Bull for dinner.

We did our nightcap at the Green Room and had our usual good time quenching our Thursday thirst. Home on schedule, and early to bed again. Still, I’m having a lot of fun for an old guy.
Back when I was a relatively young man (52), I was living the life in Korea. Beer, darts, and hanging out with friends. This post, A night on the town, from December 2007, captures the glory of those days nicely. I mention a guy named Brian, and I wonder if it is my regular commenter by that name. I know we met in Itaewon, but I can’t remember when. Glad to include this in The Story of My Life.
Facebook memories from this day in history:

Seven years ago, I was busy wrapping things up in Korea:

And as long as we are dwelling on the past, here’s a YouTube video I linked on my blog seventeen years ago. Korean history ages well.
Funny or not, here they come:

And now I have to run. We got back later than normal from the group hike; I’ll tell you why tomorrow. I’m going to do the SOB at the Alaska Club today, so I need to hustle on down to secure a good seat.
Dear Blissed Sir Dear Jonh
I cannot stop thinking about our new pontiff, and you? Which church do you attend, dear? This is a very exciting periods for us all.
God bless.
You’ve got a lot of favorite trees. Ever thought of doing a connect-the-trees tour? Could be awesome. Can you plot each tree’s location via GPS coordinates? Info on how to do that is here. It’s a skill that could come in handy someday.
What is your favorite horror movie? And what is Swan’s? And I always thought you were Methodist.
Re: Matching shirts – that is such an Asian thing, usually foisted upon the male side of the couple. I remember a while back, my girlfriend at the time thought it would be cute to wear matching shirts. She thought it was cute. Me, not so much. LOL
Re: Brian – nope, must have been another Brian. I like football but never have been involved in any fantasy football leagues. Though I do remember watching a couple of Super Bowls in Korea – sitting in a bar and drinking Bloody Mary’s at 7 am or so on a Monday morning.
I think we mainly crossed paths in Dolce Vida. If you remember, they had the really really steep staircase leading up to the bar. One night, going there for a drink, and found a western guy crumbled at teh base of the stairs. Face bloody, etc. after falling (drunk) down the stairs. Bunch of people gathered around him. He laid there for a minute, got up, mumbled something about being okay and staggered off into the night. LOL
Brian, I wear one of my numerous Hash shirts whenever I go for a hike. Now that Swan has been Hashing for awhile, she has her own collection of shirts. Some days we both choose the same shirt by coincidence, although there have been occasions where she copies my choice on purpose. I don’t mind either way.
I figured it wasn’t you I mentioned, I’d have a stronger recollection of a fantasy football opponent. I used to be a fanatic of pro sports, these days I don’t know and I don’t care. Another example of how I’ve lost touch with the American culture.
Yep, I remember those stairs. For the ten years or so that Dolce Vita was my Itaewon bar hangout I witnessed several drunken downfalls, although I was never a victim. I did my falling inside the bar.
Terry, my favorite whore movie is probably “Debbie Does Dallas”. Oh, shit, you said, horror. The first one that comes to mind is one that gave me nightmares when I was a kid, “Night of the Living Dead”. I just asked Swan hers, and she said, “Shudders”. I have never even heard of that one before.
I was raised in the Protestant faith; Foursquare and Assembly of God churches. But I quit being a believer back when I was a rebellious teen.
Kev, most of the trees I post are just random encounters that catch my eye. I do have some favorites that I check on whenever I pass by. Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out. Maybe this old dog can still learn a new trick!
Cherry, I do not attend church, nor am I an adherent to the Christian faith. So, I don’t care about the pope, but I’m glad you are happy.
