Sorry to hear about the eye problem. This is where health care becomes an issue when you’re in a country where you can’t necessarily trust the quality of the care you might receive. Of course, to be fair, there are plenty of nightmare stories that come out of the States, e.g., getting the wrong foot amputated, etc.
Cheap Charlies is sounding more and more like a no-go. Those bar girls strike me as utterly parasitic. Sure, they get my sympathy because they’re just trying to do their job, but it’s the job itself that’s the problem, and the whole “bargirl” drinking culture really needs to be thrown out the window. That’s not going to happen anytime soon, so it’s up to you to maintain your own peace of mind. Stay away from parasites. They suck your money and your soul.

I don’t know how the Hash works, but if they allow you the option to do what you’re doing, then more power to you. Great pictures, as usual, in spite of the wetness. We’re experiencing a bit of a cool period here in Korea right now; not sure how long it’s going to last. July and August are normally the worst of the summer months, and July is also normally the time of the monsoon. Anyway, good luck weathering the weather!

I usually end up somewhere near the center on that particular test. I haven’t taken that test in a while; maybe I should, just to see how far rightward I’ve been migrating.

Sorry to hear that business isn’t doing so well. I’ll hold out hope that various governments finally recognize the pandemic has been over for a while, and they finally reopen their doors, quarantine-free, so struggling businesses can breathe.
Joy’s not that cute, but if she’s got a good personality, that counts for more than looks. To be fair, I’m not that cute, either.

Yeah, but when you say “8 kilometers” or “10 kilometers,” you’re walking at least partly on mountainous terrain, which makes a huge difference. I can go long on flat ground, but I’d probably lose steam on any of those slopes that you and your cohort routinely do. I’m currently having trouble walking up five flights of stairs, just to give you an idea.
So think of it this way: I walked 18K on flat ground in almost 3:45:00. You just walked close to 11K on mountainous terrain in a little more than half that time. I think you’d easily kick my ass if you did my route. After all, you’ve kicked my ass before.

Well, the cheesy version is a variant, and there’s nothing wrong with preferring your French dip a certain way. I dunk tuna melts in tomato soup, after all (or at least, I used to), and those’re super cheesy. I actually didn’t realize that you could have a French dip with cheese at all until Wikipedia set me straight. I guess the real point is that John Kim wasn’t short-changing you: he made a proper traditional French dip. And because the sandwich is so simple, you’re right that the au jus makes the sandwich.

Cheese on a French dip? Hmmm. A look at Wikipedia shows a variant of the traditional French dip; it has Swiss cheese (i.e., Emmenthaler). The original sandwich, though, is cheeseless.

I’m old enough to remember the old “soak your body part in urine” myth when you get stung by jellyfish. Actually did it once as a kid. Gross and utterly useless. Like putting butter on burns. Old wives’ tales that we grow up with, eh?
Salisbury steak looks good, as do the sides. I try not to think too hard about what close cousins chili and baked beans are.
