I can solve the Wheel of Fortune question without even buying a vowel: dangling modifier.

What I should have said: “Christmas carols were playing in the background while I was grocery shopping at Royal.”

I admittedly struggled with the alumnus sentence, and your rewrite captures perfectly what I was trying to say. It is great to have a volunteer (i.e., unpaid) editor. Thanks for that!

Kevin, ah, that explains it. I had forgotten about the shirts. Yes, they were from a special event last year and since they are the only “Christmas Hash” shirts most of us own, that was the popular choice for the #1685 Candy Run. Sorry for the confusion!

Was it the last supper?

Kevin, Swan doesn’t like the litter culture and doesn’t seem to take offense to my teasing her about it. From my observations, it will take a generation to change things here, and aside from Siargao Island, I haven’t seen any effort underway. When I lived in Korea, I was disgusted by the litter I encountered, but nothing prepared me for these dirty islands.

Yeah, it’s a shame that John’s dream is dying too, but kudos to the family for keeping it going and maintaining quality for as long as they did. Perhaps the widow will find a new (and cheaper) venue and open her own place.

Oh, I like the birria. Swan and I share our meals, so I had a taco and bulgogi. Swan likes having guacamole, but I don’t use it.

Yeah, I didn’t see anything in that video that concerned me directly. A cheaper rate for my wire transfers would be fine, especially with the enhanced exchange rate. But I like to keep it simple, and the fees I pay for ATM withdrawals don’t bother me much.

Kevin, thanks for turning my dream into a nightmare. Yeah, I’d need some upgrades before spending my “dream” weekends in that cabin. But lying in that hammock, looking at Easter Mountain, has some appeal. Not as much as electricity, water, and Wi-Fi, though.

My “high” categories were: Glucose/FBS 115.98 (max is 115). Cholesterol 235.36 (max is 220). LDL 147.02 (max is 130). So, with some dietary discipline, I should be able to bring those numbers back down into the “normal” range.

I’m glad my liver is fine (so far). Now, I need to help my poor kidneys out.

How about these fixes:
Goodbye, sweets and carbs!
In the good news category: my liver function is normal.
One of my fellow floating bar mates didn’t see it that way; he tossed the balls overboard.

Well, my fix of adding an “I” requires a comma, right? I also reworded the sentence for clarity:

Reflections of my life

Brian, I’m doing okay for the most part, just the occasional speedbump as I navigate life’s journey. It’s not so much an inability to start over as an unwillingness to go through the hassle of getting reestablished in a new locale. And for the most part, I really like it where I am.

I’m looking forward to two weeks in Vietnam next month. A nice change of scenery, and then it will feel good to be back home again.

Yeah, I do need to do a better job of emphasizing the positives. Last night on the floating bar is an example of that. In one sense, it’s more of the “same old, same old,” but it felt so good to be gently rolling on the water, taking in the fantastic views, and chatting with fellow expats. I never want to take this life for granted.
