Kevin, actually it’s probably for the best. Going to Pyeongtaek where I’ll be pretty much a stranger will ease the adjustment in Subic where I’ll also be a stranger. On the bright side, all my jokes will be new again!

Kevin, yes they Fitbit does an overall measurement, not just during activity. When I set it up I put in all the demographic info (age, weight, etc) and the calories burned are for the 24 hour period. It does the same thing with sleep and heart rate measurements.
I can’t attest that it is 100% accurate, but it is a consistent baseline standard from which to measure progress. I’m actually a big Fitbit fan.
Oh, and about the walk, it was also spread out over the day. Walk to work, walk at lunch, a long walk home. I’d have a hard time doing that many steps all at once like you are doing.

I can’t attest that I’ll find equally good care in the PI. My research indicates that the private hospitals in the larger cities are first rate. You want to avoid the public hospitals wherever they are. There are a couple of highly rated hospitals in the Subic area so I should be good.
I’ll need to ask for all my medical records before I leave, that’s for sure!

Kevin, yes I feel ready to take the next step. Getting quite a bit of arm twisting to sign up for another tour of duty here. Even got an offer of free housing in Pyeongtaek. I’ve not said no at this point, so I guess you could say I’m keeping my options open. Either way, I have no future in Seoul.

Chris, yes Shakey’s is like the most popular pizza brand going here in the PI. I grew up going to Shakey’s in the USA so it blew me away to see the chain going strong here. Actually, the food is pretty damn good.
Soju, certainly much fewer calories in the eye candy….

Kevin, as you know I’ve been pretty much a defender of Korean medicine in the past, but this has been a real eye-opener for me. Here’s another example: I asked the Army doc for some more juice for my nebulizer. He said he could do that, but the inhaler he had given me works a lot better and I should just stick with that. What the hell? I went out a purchased a nebulizer thinking it was my only option short of hospitalization. All I needed was the inhaler which none of the 3 doctors at Soonchoonhwang ever even suggested.

Quality medical is always a factor to be considered for sure. The area I’m looking at (Subic) has a couple of decent hospitals and you can find good doctors in Manila as well. So, for routine stuff I feel I’ve got it covered. I’ll be maintaining my current health care plan (Blue Cross) and will keep an emergency fund in the bank should a catastrophe strike requiring me to leave the courntry for “first world” care. I think it is a manageable risk.
