Upon sober reflection, I now remember…JRR Tolkein..The Hobbit…

Kevin, absolutely. I went for it because I was convinced she was making a mistake and if she could understand my true feelings she would see that. I was foolish to believe in her, but at least now I can be at peace with outcome.
Widow, sorry to disappoint you. There should not be any more posts about Loraine int future. This blog though seems to be about me and my stupidity in general. So I’m afraid there is more of that to come.

Thanks, Brian. Actually I have had a couple of my female friends/co-workers also take Loraine’s side in this. So yeah, not expressing my feelings and not allowing her to express her own was a big mistake on my part.

No, I very much appreciated this comment. It really puts things in perspective.

Thanks, Kevin. It was good reality check for me. Yes, while I didn’t intend to fall in love with Loraine, over time those feelings grew, even when I was in denial. Only the prospect of losing her made me acknowledge them.
So going forward, what do I really want? I think I’m speaking in euphemisms, when I say “care” for, I’m merely replacing one four letter word for another. Yes, I do want to be loved, I know that now. I may be of a nature where I need to be loved.
The problem of course is that I want to be loved on my terms, selfish bastard that I am.
I truly appreciate your insights. Going forward with a clearer understanding of my motivations and requirements will help me narrow my focus in my search for Loraine’s replacement.
And yes, I want someone pretty!

Outstanding. One of my ex-wives couldn’t resist reminding me that I had been a prick to some women in the past (including her). So, yes I’m riding the samsara for sure. You’d think after getting kicked around be the last wife, the Korean GF, and now the Filipina, I’d have me some moksha coming…

Frank, Not a lot here in the village, but at least I live smack dab in the middle. A lot the housing areas outside the ville, although convenient to base, have nothing in the neighborhood. Really though, Pyeongtaek city is only 20 minutes away, so it’s not so bad…

Frank, I checked the regs and buying a drink is listed as being acceptable. Now, I understand that in Osan juicy bars are off limits. The problem is these bars here are not strictly juicy bars, they are more like pubs where the staff is extremely thirsty. You get nothing extra for the drinks, hell often you don’t even get much conversation. It’s a messed up business model in my opinion.
Kevin, bars are what pass for my social life these days. At least in Itaewon there were several fun bars to hang out in with like minded folks. Haven’t found anything similar to that here.

What is strange is the girl who quit was well liked by everyone. And the only argument the owner had was she quit without notice. Yeah, not cool. Give her a bad reference. But you can’t withhold money that has been earned. That’s stealing. I just don’t get the mentality. But I have no doubt the bar owners would never pull that shit on a Korean employee. It’s racism, pure and simple. Sickening.

Brian, yeah the serenity prayer occurred to me as well.
So far, so good. I whisper “acceptance” about 20 times a day….

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the support.

Well, the bus was not so bad. I thought the train would be much faster, but not so much…

soyong, I had no idea you were a reader of this blog. The bus was such a long trip, but then again, so was the train…

Soju, times have definitely changed. The lady drinks are ten and that’s all they sell. Oh, and my Miller Lite’s are 6 or 7 depending on the bar…

Brian, thanks for commenting. Yes, it’s actually more out of loyalty to my “work family” than anything else. But if I find myself in a continued downward spiral and will pull the chord and bail.
Heading to Boracay next week which should be a good dose of medicine!

Yeah, it’s all good. Life is for learning.

Thanks, Kevin. I assumed the “We Walk Together” was a play on the “katchi kapshida” saying which is the motto of the US/ROK alliance.

Thanks, Soju. Yes, the are far worse things than being lonely. I’m just “stuck” right now, but I wiggle my way out….
» Posted By John McCrarey On 20/September/2017 @ 5:31 pm
Yeah, it has its advantages. Often miss the concrete that is Seoul but I expect if I was there I might be missing the countryside too.

Thanks, Soju. Let’s just say that I’m glad you’re not gay. Not that there is anything wrong with it…

HA! This is true. I would never have done to her what she did to me, but as some friends have noted, she gave me the freedom to pursue a new life. At some point I hope to be grateful for that…

Damn, I should have thought of that…!

Thanks, Kevin. I’ve been asked “why would you want to live in a poor country like the Philippines?” Well, you can make it better by living there is my answer. Even if it is just touching one or two lives in a positive way.
» Posted By John McCrarey On 07/September/2017 @ 9:48 pm
Thanks for the comment, Soju.
Casbah still plays good music. But they have a couple of older gals (mid to late 40s hustling for lady drinks. Takes the fun out of enjoying the music. I’d reckon bar staff is 75% Filipina. Rare to find Korean females these days (other than the bar owners).
Duffy’s was torn down last week. They are widening the road. Only in there once and the girl asked for a W20,000 drink. I said no and left. 7 Club has been closed since I moved here, and last weekend opened as a new bar called Liberate. Never seen Maxim or Tophat so I expect they are gone now.
Cheers!

«« Back To Stats PageHa! It was a big ass sandwich. Wouldn’t have room for a cookie after. Enjoyed the link to the ‘In my life” lyrics. Good stuff!
Not sure if there is a way to turn off the memories. You don’t have to click and open them of course, but damn, I can’t seem to help myself.
It’s all good!
