Yeah, maybe I can do the chili before hand and also some pulled pork. Good idea! The only problem with take out pizza is that it’s not so good cold and it’s hard to get the timing right as people finish the trail at their own speed. Plus, I’ve never had any food delivery here in Alta Vista, not even sure it’s available.
Ah dessert, hadn’t really thought of that. Think I’ll just do some brownies and cupcakes.
We always use establishments with a kitchen for the on-homes and most of the Hashers do seem to order food. It’s very rare when we have on home at a home so I’m going to try and be a good host. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks, Brian. You are absolutely correct. The site where I pulled the lyrics listed him as the songwriter and I was really surprised by that because it is NOTHING like any Willie Nelson I’d ever heard. Should have confirmed it myself, but good to have readers keeping me honest!
Actually, I was familiar with Nelson’s On the Road Again which is an okay song. But that should have been a HUGE clue he hadn’t written another with the same title…

Thanks guys. I let Lucky in the house for several hours a day. I didn’t have a good answer for his WTF? look as he stood at the door watching the rest of us enjoy the indoor world. I think he prefers inside and once he learns not to pee inside I might allow more house time.
Frank, he’s making regular vet visits and I bathe him with special soap and shampoo every other day. It seems to be working!

Heh, it’s complicated. I’m still trying to sort out my feelings as well. But the bottom line is is Marissa sucks at being a girlfriend and didn’t seem to be inclined to try and step up her game. However the relationship is characterized, my needs simply were not being met. Time to move on for us both. Should be interesting how things play out in that regard.

Yeah, it’s true that I’m often my own worst critic. But I’ve also noticed myself rather frequently saying “I’m glad I’m not him!” as I observe my fellow expats. I’m living this life pretty much on my own terms, for better or worse.

HaHa! I prefer to think of it as looking for a needle in a haystack. It’s GOT to be in there somewhere! But seriously, I haven’t really be looking at all. I guess I’d rather moan about being alone than moan about getting hurt again. I’m keeping an open mind though!
Hmm, I might enjoy making some videos. I know a couple of guys here who do. We’ll see.

Yeah, I’m not overly worried about the bitching that is inevitable (hell, I do it too when the trail is too long, steep, boring, etc). It just goes with being the Hare. I figure I’ll make the other old fuckers happy at least!

Yes, that’s a great assessment. I had sensed for some time that Buddy really craved some canine companionship and he seems happy with being the big dog around the house. I’m down with being the top dog too!

Hi Brian, sorry for the delay in getting your comment posted.
I think I would find my younger self misguided, but full of mostly good intentions. And the older and wiser version of me would endeavor to set him straight.
Actually, sometimes I fantasize about going back in time and being the younger me with all the years of accumulated knowledge and experience. What would I do with that wisdom? Well, I would for sure buy stock at the IPO of Microsoft and Apple. Once I was a gazillionaire I’d probably retire to a small beach town in the Philippines!

a logical reaction to the photos!
I’m a little ashamed to admit I had to go read up on Waiting for Godot as I was not familiar with the play. Loved this line in the Wikipedia description:
When Beckett was asked why Lucky was so named, he replied, “I suppose he is lucky to have no more expectations…”
Lucky is still a puppy and my expectation is that he will grow some, although I doubt he will get as big as Buddy…maybe half that size.

That’s actually just what I did…gave lucky a bath with medicated soap bar, then one with medicated shampoo, and finally a bath with medicine mixed in the water. He was not a happy camper by the third go round. But he is coming around and I can tell he already considers this his home. The neighbors walked by yesterday and he was barking at them like a guard dog. Good job Lucky!
And yes, most Hares will minimize city walking to the extent possible. It’s hard to please everyone but that is something I think we can all agree on. I like a little rural/shanty thrown in with my wilderness, but keep the damn highway with trucks and buses off the Hash!

Yeah, I can already see that he is warming up to me. Came home last night and he was whining for attention. Let him out of his pen and he was a happy camper. Wanted to go inside the house and play with Buddy. Had to nix that of course, but it was clear he just wants to join in and be part of the “family”. And once we get him cured he will be!

Thanks for the support guys. And Jerry, you are right. A dog repays all that you give them with the purest love you can imagine. Buddy is always so happy when I come home every night. He stands on his hind legs and gives me a big hug. It’s so sweet!

You know it’s odd. I’ve always said 7,000 steps an hour because three different versions of my Fitbit (Charge 2, Alta HR, and now Charge 3) have consistently told me so. I put the new app on my phone to get a better handle on distance. My Fitbit does record distance as well, but I can’t stop it and start it like I can with the app. I hate doing the math to figure out distance on a particular stretch of trail. I guess I’ll have to see if I can reconcile between the two which is a more accurate reflection of the pace/distance I’m walking…

Kevin, yeah I make typos and occasionally misuse words, but bad punctuation is by far my biggest writing sin. Seems like there is a void your new book can fill, especially the chapter on “Comma Sense” and “Semi-Colonoscopy”.
Thanks for the compliment! Some of my earliest memories are of my father reading poems aloud to us kids. I’ve always had an appreciation for the feelings a well written poem can invoke, just not much talent at expressing myself in that format. I think my short story fiction writing had more promise. Of course, my creative days are behind me now.

HaHa, yeah she could be offensive. Once in a basketball game she got in foul trouble so the coach sat her down. The game was out of reach and there was just a couple of minutes left on the clock. I heard her saying “Coach, put me back in. I’ve still got one foul. I want to use it!”

Ribs on bread? I don’t normally even eat my pulled pork on bread. I’m not stridently low carb these days, so perhaps. Actually, I had a bulgogi Philly cheesesteak sandwich for dinner last night from a place where the owner is Korean-American. Pretty damn good.
