Yeah, hopefully the doc can set me up with some meds. I put ice on it last night which seemed to help, but this morning I’m not seeing much improvement.
Not sure where it came from but unlikely it’s the dogs. Buddy is a hugger, not a licker. And Lucky is an ankle biter.
We’ll see. I hope.

The closest thing to a gated community here would be on the old Navy base. I looked there prior to moving, nice houses but isolated. I’d need a car if I lived there. There is another vacant house in Alta Vista within eyesight of the guard shack. I looked at it before but it doesn’t have a nice view like I have here.
I honestly don’t think the guards suck. They do what there are supposed to do–regular patrols on motorbikes throughout the subdivision, checking vehicles as they enter, etc. I’m not sure what else they can do. Maybe hire more guards…
Someone actually offered to give me their German Shepherd after the first break-in, but I declined. And I love German Shepherds. If I had a fenced yard and good keep a big dog outside I’d consider it.
Well, I don’t accept this as the “new normal”, but I live comparatively rich surrounded by poor people so it might be normal that I’d be a target for the thieves among them. Making my house more difficult to breach I think is the appropriate response. I’m confident no one is getting in here now without breaking glass.
Maybe if I were the victim of a violent crime I’d be more inclined to consider leaving, but really, where in the world is one truly safe these days?
I’ll need to take a look at some crime stats. I know there is less crime here in Olongapo than there is in Manila, for whatever that’s worth.

Well, as I say, the guards can’t really be blamed. They can’t be everywhere. The window was open, but who’d a thunk they’d climb up on the roof to get in?
I am going to look into getting some CCTV cams installed outside. Speaking of which, I saw the head guard just now and the other house did capture footage of the suspect. He has a massive tattoo on his neck and someone identified him as a resident in the squatter village outside the gate. The guard said they had turned that info over to the police He wasn’t sure when or if they would make an arrest–then he did the finger across the throat motion. Not sure what to make of that, but here in the PI, the police have carte blanche to kill drug users. I would shed no tears if that turns out to be the case.

I’m not sure about the availability of bear spray here but have considered carrying pepper spray. But then again, back in my mailman days that didn’t always prove effective. Half the time the shit would blow back in MY face!
Yeah, I debated about the need for these shots. The dog was purportedly vaccinated and doesn’t appear ill (although he is underfed). All the Filipinos I talked to thought getting a shot was a foregone conclusion. And not too long ago a foreign tourist got bit, went home, and died of rabies. Why take a chance?

Anyway, my first impulse was to kill the motherfucker. Now, he was on his chain and guarding his turf. I showed have been more situationally aware of the reach of his tether. What was more shocking was the owner’s I don’t give a shit attitude.

Providing good food at a Hash event would be a low bar to measure achievement. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of buffets anyway and something about this one gave me a big “nope” feeling…

Kev, the Hash started at 1:00. There were 180 people in attendance. The feeding was going to be done through a buffet line and at 7:00 it hadn’t begun. I didn’t want to wait. Others that did said the food sucked. I doubt the haggis would have lasted till I got to the front of the line anyway.
Dan, everyone does it differently. I saw a guy drinking a beer in the restaurant at 0730 yesterday. I don’t want to be that guy! I don’t know how restitutional the lifestyle is, but whatever your ailment, it’s more fun to live with it here I suppose.

The misspelling was likely intentional–as us Subic heathens are frequently reminded–La Union is a “family hash”.
I preregistered and was asked my shirt size at that time. Didn’t know ridiculous shorts were included. I assume if you were XL shirt they provide XL shorts.
No idea what was in the toilet–it looked chunky–and I’m glad I didn’t find out.

That’s actually a street in my subdivision, so it does lead somewhere. Eventually. It’s a quiet street where I can let Lucky off his leash for a bit.
No updates on Graham. Rumor has it that he’s been moved to Olongapo to continue therapy. I guess they are still working on getting him in good enough condition to travel home to Scotland.

Kev, good advice. Actually, I wasn’t expecting the emotional reactions I had last trip. Hopefully, I’m better prepared this time.
Dan, yeah this trip to Korea is mostly just to see an old friend who is getting ready to return to the USA. Easier to say goodbye in Korea. There are some other places on my ‘I need to go there” list. Oddly though I’ve never felt a desire to go to Singapore. Not sure why I guess the whole police state mindset has always been offputting.

HaHa…yeah. When I was dating a Catholic woman she took me to mass with her once. The usher drafted us to carry “the gifts” up to the priest. Hell, I wasn’t even eligible for communion. At least I didn’t get struck down by lightning!
