Yes, we are in “summer” season now. Much hotter with more humidity. I’ve been getting sweat-soaked on my walks.
The best months here are November-February, weather feels almost cool, the air is dry, and there’s usually a breeze.
Come May I’ll be missing these hot days when rainy season kicks in.
Those Korean springs are great, especially following a cold winter. I don’t miss snow and ice at all!

Thanks, guys. I’m not stressing out with worry, just thinking ahead a little too much perhaps. Nothing to be done at this point but wait and see what happens. I’ve been planning a trip to Thailand in July and I’m a little concerned about paying for tickets without knowing what the situation on the ground there is going to look like in the coming months. The last thing I want to do is be quarantined. Or not allowed back into the Philippines should a travel ban from there be implemented. Oh, and for the record, I drink San Mig Zero beer which is only 3% alcohol. Even folks advocating booze as a way of inoculating yourself are talking about the hard stuff. I agree that won’t likely work either (unless killing your liver helps).
I had a cornbread mix that actually came with a packet of brown and a packet of white sugar. It was really great tasting but I’ve not found that brand here since. I thought the honey would be a healthy alternative, but now I know I’d need lots more for it to make a difference. Oh well.

Rascal/Jerry, I got away from eating lasagna and spaghetti mostly in my effort to avoid carbs. So re-experiencing that tasty explosion of tastes after literally years was really great. Next time you get a craving let me know and I’ll eat some on your behalf!

Kev, yeah I was eating at Angel’s, the local German bakery. Most places here offer their full menu all day long, and I just wasn’t feeling the usual bacon and egg routine. The lasagna was the daily special so I figured why not? The bread was soft and there weren’t any seeds, so must have been poppy.
Well, you managed to turn that grammar joke around on me. I’ve always thought of grammar being everything, with the possible exception of its cousin punctuation. Now I’ve learned that there are in fact three different ways I can screw up when I write. Damn it!
Yeah, good catch on the boldface/italics thing. I noticed the mistake on this post yesterday but was in a hurry and let it go. The other examples of my sloppiness were a bit of a surprise, as much because I have a reader actually that detailed oriented. I’ll strive to do better now that I know someone is watching! A sincere thank you for keeping me on my toes. It’s easy to get lazy.

Hmm, I tend to avoid getting involved in Filipino politics. It’s a good way to get deported. There’s a lot of corruption from the lowest level (i.e. “paying your fine” for a traffic violation directly to the cop) all the way to the top (China is literally purchasing this country piece by piece). That’s as far as I can go with this.
I honestly have very little interaction with my staff beyond I need you to do this type of stuff. We all get along but don’t get involved beyond the work relationship. For example, I have no idea what they even do when they go out at night or on weekends. It’s like I’m living with strangers now that I think about it.
Stories about my fellow expats may have some potential. I’ll keep my eyes and ears open. Some of them are just pathetic drunks and not interesting at all. But there may be something going on with others that is worthy of a blog post.
Ha! Come to think of it, I’ve been blogging about that one guy for years. What’s his name again? Oh yeah, McCrarey…

Thanks for the link. Carol wasn’t always that way. When my worldview changed after 9/11 we’d argue a lot about politics. But I don’t recall her being the stereotypical snowflake melting with whatever she perceives as öffensive. It’s sad really because she is an otherwise intelligent woman. Or at least she was 10 years ago.

Not heard the details of what led to Aussie Bob’s demise, only that he’d been back to Australia recently for treatment of whatever was ailing him. Perhaps he just came back here to die amongst the people he loved.
I’m not sure what a comparative study would involve but I’ve never had the burning desire to even visit India for some reason. Some things about the culture seem off-putting and I would hate the teeming cities (as I do Manila), but I suppose I could keep an open mind. Hell, they love President Trump so it can’t be all bad!

Ralph, I’ve never asked her directly. The bars here generally don’t set a price, so the girls ask for what they want, subject to negotiation. My guess is the going rate would be P3000 or thereabouts…

Kev, well the ability to swallow a lit candle does intrigue the imagination. Actually, what I like about her is she looks more Asian than most girls here. The one you like is definitely a cutie! As far as being too young goes, I’m sure she would tell you what I hear all the time: “age is just a number”. Some of them I think actually believe it!
Dan, oddly enough Dave DOES have a wife. She’s European (Dave is from Ohio originally) and spends part of the year in Holland and part in Manila. She apparently never ventures up to Barretto where Dave maintains his business and other interests. He’s living the life of Riley, that’s for sure!

You know, people rag on Subic Bay being polluted. But it’s mostly litter near where the rivers enter the bay. The water quality is really not bad. I’ve noticed lately even from the floating bars you can peer deep into the water and see some big ass fish.

You know, it’s been surprising just how little I encounter any type of critter on the trail. Not even many mosquitos (I do slather on Off! before going out though). Had a couple of ant bites, but that’s it. As to leeches (other than the notorious Hare, Leech My Nuggets) never seen or heard of them here. I’m going to ask one of the experienced Hashers about that. The Navy guys who detained us a while back said the river we crossed had snakes in it, but luckily we didn’t encounter any.

Kev, it’s all about the real estate values I suppose. Probably wouldn’t see this in Manila either. Well, you’d see it but there’d be a tarp strung up as a roof and people living inside.
I actually bought that chair when I moved into my house from a used furniture store. I may go back there. A new one is probably no better.

Yeah, I wish I knew more about his story. Before he hit rock bottom he was known about town as a big spender. Not sure how everything fell apart for him here. Read this morning it was a heart attack that killed. Sister in Canada is making arrangements for cremation/transport home.
