Kevin, “were” isn’t the right word; I’d go with “was” or “is.” I don’t see anything wrong with “function,” but I like “purpose” better.

Kevin, clearly, I’m the drama king, at least according to Swan. 🙂 Then again, I guess it is pretty dumb to be overly dramatic.
As far as I can tell, that meme needs a comma after “apparently.”
It happened in a country with strict gun control laws, so that won’t fit with the lefty narrative. From what I’ve read, given the shooter’s history of mental illness, he could not legally possess a gun. It’s sad how laws don’t impede someone who wants to murder, which is also against the law.

Nowadays, everyone by the lake would be jonesing for his/her cell phone and griping about the lack of a signal.
Sad, but true. Those were simpler times. Of course, nowadays, I’d be bitching about the lack of internet, too.Actually, my father was five years older than my mother. As for dating an old woman as a young man, you had me at “rich.”
As for where I fall on the spectrum, I’d say I lean towards ‘people can change.” Granted, I’m a slow learner, but I’ve made progress along this road we call life. At least, most of my mistakes these days are new ones. I don’t think I’ve ever been an optimist, but acceptance is worth striving for.
It sounds like your father wasn’t totally worthless; at least he served as a bad example. You are blessed to have achieved a level of awareness to have avoided living that way.

Brian, if Swan said she wanted me to attend family functions, I would. It seems like it is no big deal to her that I’d rather not.
Yeah, Sohee never gave any indication that she was in a dark place. I was out of the country when she hung herself, but I suspect it might have had something to do with a failed marriage. I totally agree, though, that suicide is the most selfish thing you can do…your pain doesn’t go away, it is transferred to all who knew and loved you.

Kevin, I’d attribute it to mutual stubbornness, neither of us wanting to admit to our contributions to the misunderstanding. Admittedly, there are some things I don’t handle well, and a tampo response makes it worse for me. Anyway, this is our third year together, and these incidents seem to only come once a year, so maybe we’ll get better at dealing with the occasional potholes.

Randy, I’m probably doing okay healthwise overall, but as the years roll on, the parts are wearing out. I think Dr. Jo wanted the ultrasound to take a look at my bladder function. What will be will be.

Levi, I occasionally eat the local food, but I prefer my old favorites from the West. There is nothing wrong with Filipino delicacies; I’m not sure why they aren’t more popular beyond the border. No, it is not poverty, laziness, or stupidity; it is probably more lack of promotion. The only thing I’d refuse to eat here is balut (a duck egg fetus). Nope, none for me, thanks!

Kevin, yep, no question about it, I’m a mess. I can’t even remember what I’ve learned. And it is getting worse. I’m not quite as bad as Sammy yet, but I’m getting there. In an odd coincidence, I saw bits of this film on the big screen TV at Alley Cats last night (no sound, just subtitles).
Anyway, you’re right, maybe this is a “be careful what you wish for” situation. Everything I forget is new again, so I’m living the “do-over” life I dreamed about. Shit!

Yep, live in the moment, apply the wisdom and insights you have gained in life, and be the best you can be as you venture into the unknown future. I get all that. For me, the real appeal of the do-over fantasy is being young again. I hate the constraints that come with being elderly. But I don’t want to experience death’s limitations anytime soon, so I’ll make the best of what I have.
Now, in my defense, the menu reads pulled pork sandwich without the hyphen. It’s not a matter of never learning, it’s about forgetting what I’ve learned.

Kevin, I’m hoping to avoid that diaper option. I guess it all depends on finding a fix.
I don’t know if walking helped restore lung capacity, but it definitely didn’t hurt. The Army doctor I saw said living in a warm, humid climate would be good for my lungs, and that not breathing Seoul’s smog would help, too.
We shall see what the future has in store.

Kevin, I scheduled the appointment as a consultation to see if any of my meds needed adjustment and to discuss my current issues to see if there are any easy fixes.
Swan barks a little when I go back for a second helping of ice cream, but generally leaves me to my own devices. Nothing left to leave her in my will. I am giving her money so she can contribute to the Social Security fund and help her build a house on the family compound. So, she’ll have a roof over her head at least when I’m gone.

Brian, the only problem I have with Baguio is getting there. The long and winding mountain road makes it difficult. No airport or other means of escape. Traffic in town gets heavy at times as well. That said, once you are there, it is beautiful and has all the modern conveniences. I like where I am for everyday living, but I enjoy spending a weekend in the mountains. Great hiking in the former Camp John Hay, too.

Terry, damn, I’d love to be living at Clint’s age. And yeah, I need to do better at embracing each day instead of worrying about tomorrow. My dad made it to 83 with a worse lifestyle than mine, so maybe there’s hope.

Kevin, read the review, and as usual, it was great. All the more so because I’ve actually seen Groundhog Day several times and mostly remember it. Yes, the realities you point out do undermine my “do-over” fantasy. I left a comment on your post trying to explain how I imagine it working, but a fantasy is just a dream scenario in the end.
I assumed the dragon was smiling, thinking about the take-out lunch it was bringing home.
Regarding the comma splice, it’s obvious even to me once you point it out. So, does that mean I’m ignorant or apathetic?
I’ll go back and check those memes to see if I can identify the errors.
