Kevin, I’ve been mis-hyphenating since high-school. (Interestingly, my spellchecker doesn’t like the hyphen in high school.)
That reminds me of one of my bar jokes. Me to bargirl: I’m going to ask you three questions. Each question has the same answer. And to make it even easier, I’ll tell you the answer: addicted. Ready? Okay, first question: What do you call someone who uses illegal drugs every day? “Addicted.” Good! Second question: What do you call someone who gets drunk and passes out every night? “Addicted.” That’s right! Final question: What slapped you in the face when you woke up this morning? “Addic…oh shit! See how you are!”
Yeah, I don’t like getting floored, but that’s about getting dizzy from the room spinning. I piss myself even when I’m sober lately.

Thanks for the AI advice on avoiding a carabao. I usually give them a wide berth, but I didn’t see this one under a tree until he was coming at me. Lucky for me, he got to the end of his rope before he reached me.
Re: self-delusion: I guess it depends on how you define rarely. I drink almost every day of the year, so let’s say 360 days. I get floored maybe every other month, or six times a year. Six out of 360 sounds rare to me.
I get tremors just thinking about going without beer for a week.

Aaron, I eat what I like. Italian food is okay, but usually very carby. When my life is over, having food I enjoyed will not be one of my regrets.

Well, I never gave up alcohol the first time I lost all that weight. Ozempic is a tool to help me achieve my goal more quickly as I strive for my diet discipline. We’ll see soon enough how that works out for me.

Brian, yeah, I tried to use the multi-verse concept to fix the holes in my fantasy, but Kevin pointed out that would be just like living in The Matrix: not real. Thanks for the tips on shows I might like. They do sound interesting, and if I can ever drag my ass in front of the TV, I’ll look for them.
Well, I am only going to use the GLP-1 as a tool to reach my weight-loss goals. Then it will be on me to maintain that weight. We’ll see how that works out for me.
“The Dance” is one of my Garth Brooks favorites, but it didn’t come into my head yesterday. I guess our lives truly are better left to chance.

Aaron, nope, I don’t handle the hard stuff well. With beer, I can, for the most part, moderate my inebriation level and stop before I get drunk-drunk. With vodka, gin, or whiskey, it sneaks up on me, and I’m wasted before I know it.
I think I can lose the belly while keeping beer a part of life. I do need to say goodbye to ice cream and sweets, though.

Brian, my “infraction” was saying I liked the Hare’s trail. At the beginning of the circle, the Hare has to sit on the ice, and anyone who claims to have thought it was a good trail has to join him there. So, I guess you could say I put myself on the ice.

We hit a wall, but made it through.
The error is that I didn’t need that comma as written. I intended to write, “but we made it through,” which needed the comma. It’s pretty hilarious that I’ve gone from not using commas enough to using them too often.I’m definitely feeling a decline in my ability to do inclines. Hopefully, if I lose some of this excess weight, I’ll do better on the hills.
I didn’t know that backpacker was famous when I watched the video. Glad he is still going at it!

So it felt like those expressionless, unblinking eyes were staring at me. It is sad to imagine what her life must be like, but I guess it shows that there is value in every life.

Brian, well, women being attracted to “rich” men is a worldwide phenomenon for sure. I agree that most relationships have a “what’s in it for me” aspect, at least in the beginning. That’s what attraction is all about. So, in that sense, it’s all transactional. I think one of the fundamental differences between many Western women and Filipinas is attitude. My observation is that Filipinas are more giving in nature (yeah, they’ll take your money for sure, but that’s different) and sincerely want to fulfill their man’s needs and desires. It’s sort of the old-fashioned way relationships used to be done: the man provides, the woman takes care of. Of course, being young and hot satisfies a man’s fantasies too. 🙂
Yep, I don’t understand the bar-owner mentality. There are way more bars here than customers to support them, and yet, whenever one closes, another opens. I could see it if you were fulfilling a void, such as our lack of a legitimate beach bar, but nope, it’s always more of the same. I think in some cases bar ownership is more of a hobby than a way of making money.

Kevin, yeah, I do seem to be useless when it comes to grammar. Well, I guess I can always serve as a bad example. I understand the rules when I read them (thanks again for the reminder links), but I seem to be incapable of retaining those lessons and recognizing my fuck-ups. As my mental faculties continue to decline, I’m not sure long-term improvement is in the cards, but I’ll keep on trying regardless.

Kevin, lots of times my mistakes are just sloppiness that I miss with a quick proofread. I had to actually think about what I did wrong with the ones you pointed out.
Now, I ain’t saying yesterday was a bad day, it just wasn’t as good as my days usually are.
Maybe I don’t need the comma after now. Or perhaps it should be a semicolon after day. Or maybe both.
I chucked a few darts in the afternoon and threw like shit, but decided to attend the Alley Cats tourney anyway, even if I didn’t play.

Brian, I’ll be on the lookout for any negative side effects from Ozempic. Kevin shared a link on stomach paralysis that was pretty damn scary. If it causes me any issues, I’ll bail on the treatment.
Well, Alaska owner Jerry quoted the 500,000-peso figure, so unless I misunderstood, it is accurate. Like you, I have no idea how you could spend several thousand dollars in one night in a bar like Alaska. There aren’t that many girls there, and most of them aren’t even very attractive. If you ring the bell and throw the balls all night, it could add up; I don’t see how that would add up to that much. As you say, whoever it was must have been a legit millionaire.
Yeah, with age comes a desire for comfort when traveling. I grew up camping out in tents, but there is no way I’d want to do that now. And I hate budget airlines with no amenities and no legroom. I’d fly business class if I could afford it, but I’ll settle for an exit row when I can get it.

Thanks for the link on stomach paralysis, scary shit! I’ll make sure to be on the lookout for any of those symptoms. Dr. Jo didn’t recommend Ozempic for me; I asked for it. She has other patients who are using it, and I’ve decided to give it a try. I like that it curbs appetite. I don’t seem to have sufficient willpower to resist temptation when it comes to food.

Thompson, I very rarely drink at home. Hitting the bars is a social activity for me. I also maintain a short window for imbibing, usually between 5 and 8 pm. I also only drink local beer, which here in the Philippines is inexpensive, around $1.50 per bottle. Granted, I do often engage in buying lady drinks for the hard-working bargirls, which ups my tab considerably. But all in, I still only spend about twenty bucks when I visit the bars.
I’m glad you are doing better and no longer have rocks in your head. Be happy and do what works for you. That’s the way I look at drinking.

Brian, I totally agree about not wanting to live amongst strangers and sharing toilets. I saw a few hostels in Da Nang (from the outside) and thought about how miserable it must be to stay there. Maybe they should be called “Hostiles” instead.

Brian, yeah, living here on the cheap can be done, but why would you want to? I admit to being curious about the village life of folks in shantytowns, but the fantasy ends when I think of the hardships… no running water (just a community well) and, in some cases, no electricity or Wi-Fi. Nope, not for me!
Yes, I get an annual COLA on my pension, so that’s a blessing. I’ve burned through a lot of my savings, mostly sending money back home for family “emergencies,” but I still have a safety cushion should circumstances warrant needing cash.
I retired at 55, lived my dream for five years, had that dream shattered, worked three more years, and walked away for good at 63. In my do-over fantasy, I skip the marriage and move to the PI 8 years earlier.

As you are aware, there is nothing perfect about my past. But yes, when we did that walkthrough, I had thought it looked nice.

Swan is a lightweight when it comes to drinking; usually, two glasses of wine is her limit. So, three wines the other night put her in the toilet. She helps me slow down, though, as I try to limit my beer intake to two or three per one wine glass. She only gets irked when I drink too much and act like an asshole.

That replacing words in song lyrics game is hilarious! Well done. Ha, now that I think about it, I’ve done the same thing on occasion. I’ll change a word in a song like “eyes” or “heart” to fart, and sing to Swan after I cut one. “I only have farts for you…” or “My farts adore you…”
Nope, that wasn’t AI, it is the real deal. Now you can find a song and change a word to “ass”!

Kevin, that’s interesting about how the cell regeneration makes us not what we once were, yet we still remain basically the same. I’d honestly never thought about that concept before.
I used Facebook as a tool for the most part. It’s where I load photos from my phone before selecting the ones I want to edit and use on the blog. I also sometimes find things of interest and links to sources posted there. I also get some laughs at how some lefties are so deranged. One guy I know posts every morning, “Is Trump dead yet?” I don’t engage with the idiots I encounter, but I do sometimes post memes that I know will make their heads explode. All in good fun. I’ve never been on those other sites you mention.
Yep, I remember that lesson. I was trying to differentiate between the 70s decade and being in my 70s. Should I have just written 1970s for clarity?
As for the sign, yes, it is grammatically incorrect, but since a non-native English speaker posted it, I’ll cut them some slack. I think most of their clientele is Filipino, so I don’t know why they even bothered with English signage.

Brian, yes, I like to wind up the leftists, and I get accused of deifying Trump as a result. I wish Trump would tone down his rhetoric and act more presidential, but then he wouldn’t be Trump, I suppose. He’s a damn site better than Biden, and that’s what matters most to me.
I think dropping bombs on Iran is better than dropping billions of dollars on them, as Obama did. Yes, I hope we don’t get into a boots-on-the-ground situation there. Give the Iranian people what they need to take their freedom back and let them do it.
I love the way he handled Venezuela, and it looks like Cuba is itching to come to the table and discuss a better future between our nations. The best part of all of this is that China is being shown the door. Keep on keeping on, Mr. President!
