Getting to the heart of the matter

Yeah, I understand I’m taking a risk and putting my peace of mind in peril with this move. Maybe I’ll be missing my old hollow life sooner than later.

Maybe I describe my love is a superficial romantic way, but I do feel a connection with her that is very unusual for me. I may ultimately be too damn selfish to be successful in a relationship. I can do the big things like being faithful and honest, but making daily sacrifices will be a challenge.

Bottom line, she has provided an opportunity to try and get it right this time. I want to avail myself of that. If it doesn’t work out, and given my history, odds are good that it won’t, at least I made the effort.

I might have lost my mind…

yeah, only attractive females would be saved by my hind lick maneuver.

New and improved

Kev, didn’t think you would see Brian’s comment. You can delete the duplication from my sharing it on your blog. Sorry!

I have not seen any Hasher with two poles. A growing number of the guys are using single poles now though. Hell, some guys even pick up a stick on the trail when the conditions warrant it.

I’ll have to consider that. I was curious about them so now I understand a bit better.

Take the fifth

“TECHNICALLY, I’M STILL MARRIED TO MY FOURTH WIFE”?

HaHa! I had (almost) forgotten about that! But I am divorced in my heart and soul and that’s what matters most. I’ve actually always believed it was on Jee Yeun to initiate the divorce she claimed to want. In the meantime, I’m enjoying the tax benefits of filing jointly. One of the quirks of Philippines life is that divorce is illegal here. There is a long and expensive annulment process that most people can’t afford. Consequently, almost all available females I meet are technically still married. Including Janey.

Yeah, during her rant Janey was especially livid about people knowing she was a cheater. But I was thinking WTF? You met me in a bar with your friends present and wanted me to take you home. The best unkept secret in town!

As I said, I’d already pulled way back so this break may have been inevitable. It was just surprising and hurtful that she chose to do it in such a mean-spirited way.

At the see shore

Um, no. I’m the world’s foremost authority on comma MISusage. I also apparently have a dangling modifier problem as well.

“Äs the world’s foremost authority on comma usage, you should be the final arbiter on the issue.” That fixes it, right? I did check the link and it turns out I know the author! What are the odds of that?

As for the Althouse issue, I agree with your analysis. I tend to use actual parentheses when making a parenthetical reference, but someone once said, maybe it was you, that commas are more appropriate for that purpose.

I’m amazed you delved into the comments section. You are a braver man than me. I don’t even leave comments there anymore.

Let it rain

Well, these are Filipino stats and they do raise as many questions as they answer. My assumption is that the 45K are still getting treated but will eventually recover. Who knows though?

I don’t deny the severity of COVID and I hope I don’t have to deal with it. My argument is that the government imposed restrictions are ineffective and counterproductive. At best, they delay the inevitable–COVID is going to run its course. It’s as simple as that. Meanwhile, people are literally starving to death and otherwise having their lives destroyed because of bureaucratic madness.

Because I’m easy

Kev, thanks for the thoughtful and insightful comment. As usual, you make some valid points that I need to factor into my thinking.

Actually, J. threw me something of curveball last night. “If I leave [him] will you be there for me?” I honestly wasn’t sure what that meant. I mean, I’m not buying any damn houses. She clarified “If I choose you I give him up”. I was actually surprised that she was seriously considering this. But I responded that if she were free we could start a relationship and see where it takes us. No guarantees. I also said I don’t want her to leave him for me…if he isn’t right for her she should leave him for her own good.

She said she feels like she is being unfair to me and needs to decide now. She told me how happy she always is when we are together. And you know what? That scared me somehow. Which I guess goes to your point about whether I’m truly in love. I’m willing to give this a try, but damn, maybe I’m not going to want to do this long term. It is so much safer staying on the sidelines. And yes, I know I’m a coward.

So, I told J. I needed to get some sleep and we’d talk more this morning. I guess this is going to be decided one way or another sooner rather than later.

Dirty laundry

Sorry to hear about your sister. Here’s hoping for a quick recovery! Yeah, it’s a whole other dynamic when this hits close to home. What kind of work was the sis doing, if I may ask?

Not enough hours in the day

Ha Ha! Even before I clicked on the link I knew it was going to be that classic Star Trek pic.

Those pork chops (sans pineapple) is from an actual recipe. https://www.pillsbury.com/recipes/slow-cooker-creamy-ranch-pork-chops/977474c3-18eb-42e8-a242-303435c12995
I generally don’t deviate much, but I had the pineapple since I forgot to try it in my chili. I wound up not eating last night (a story for another day) but my helper said the pineapple gave the chops a nice flavor. YMMV.

Standing by for your “true confessions” from the kitchen!

Witless

Yeah, it seems pointless to continue. I’m told Resa smells money in the form of a settlement. No way Jeff will pay to make this go away.

Hurry up and wait

Yeah, I saw similar in Korea as well. I’m not sure it’s a POS thing or that we are presumed to have deep pockets and therefore we should pay, right or wrong. One judge told a driver who was in an accident that was clearly not his fault “you bear responsibility because if you had not come to our country the accident would not have occurred.” You can’t win with that kind of mentality.

But yeah, I’ll be giving the crazy gals a wide berth in the future.

The way I see things

May be time for a new prescription!

Powerless to change the way things are

Soju, not that I’m aware of. I asked when I was looking for a dog and people just gave me a funny look. Buddy was “rescued” from a home probably like the one this poor pup has. Dogs that aren’t strays are often allowed to just wander the streets. Maybe they are luckier than their brothers who’s entire existence is the length of a 3-foot chain. It is very sad how animals are treated around here.

I’ve had just about enough

Thanks, Kev. Yeah, that cold air would not make my lungs feel any better, no question about it.

Happy New Year!

The art of dying

Hahaha! I actually noticed that! Surely that’s progress!

What a waste

That’s a great song, Soju. Thanks for reminding me of those timely lyrics…

Yes, she was married but not Matt. The marriage to Matt ended badly a couple of years ago. I know that was a blow for her. Then she seemed to have gotten herself together. Quit drinking (at least for awhile) and then earlier this year got married again. I didn’t know this guy, but at least from her posts of FB she seemed very happy. Honestly no idea what was going on behind the scenes.

She was a real dog lover and left two behind. She had a business called Pawsome Travel that provided transportation services to ship pets. I’m guessing that took a hit with Yongsan closing…

Cavorting with a teenager

Wow! That’s actually quite touching, Eggman. Thanks for the kind words. Now I feel the pressure to not let you down!

Lounge lizard

Well, it’s going to be challenging flat or not. I normally accumulate my steps in 1.5 hour segments, morning and afternoon. So, we’ll see how I handle a marathon.

Another factor I hadn’t considered–walking for an hour this morning and breathing in the cold air impacted my COPD damaged lungs. Nothing severe, but my breathing was more labored than normal. I recall after first being diagnosed asking my doctor about my planned move to the PI. He said the warm humid air will be easier on me than the Korean winter. I guess we’ll find out…

What a Wednesday

Thanks, Brandon. Kevin’s comments are moderated, but they do eventually show up…I’ll pass along your info to him.

Soju, Well, if it was a Ladyboy she’d likely be humping me, right? “I know she’s a real girl…I can feel it inside of me…”

Thirsty, thanks! Back in my Itaewon heyday, I was around 270 pounds. I’m at 200 now and still looking to drop ten more. I doubt I’ll ever lose the beer belly though, I loves my beer too much!

Those were the days

Kevin, rest assured I am teasing you. It’s a great quote. Hey, if the shoe fits wear it! No offense taken. Seriously

First impressions

Thanks, Duke. And great news that things are working out for your move “home” to Korea!

First things first

Yeah, boycotts from overseas can be difficult given the limited options available. I canceled my NETFLIX account after they hired Susan Rice to the board and once my Nike gear wears out I’ll find a less anti-American company for replacements.

Just doing my part…

Walk on by

Yeah, it’s funny as I just reread this post I also noticed the nipples. The guy is definitely a gal.

Charity begins at home

Thanks, Brian. I think I’ve made that clear to her, but like everything, time will tell…

Every day is a winding road

Yeah, I was actually asking myself “everyday” or “every day” and then the lyrics were printed as everyday, so I went with it…. Ha! I didn’t write the song, I’m not responsible!

One lifetime, many lives–Chapter Three: Meet the Parents

Not surprised. Those damn Californians keep moving in.

I’ll take that as a sign

Greg, last trip I stayed next door at BW Oxford Suites. Both are clean and comfortable. Also stayed nearby at Red Planet. Didn’t care for that.

Slow poke

Haha! I can always count on you to set me straight (or try to) when I ain’t quite right in my thinking. Thanks for that, Kevin!

Yeah, upon reflection it of course makes no sense to walk alone because in the group I wind up walking alone. My main idea was that if I choose the trail I’m less likely to get into trouble.

But then again, as Colin Fletcher makes clear, what’s the point of playing it safe? The idea of joining the group in the first place was to explore new trails I wouldn’t otherwise find. They can still serve that purpose.

That quote was really quite inspirational. Thanks for sharing! It reminded me of another book I read (can’t think of the author right now) entitled: “Feel the fear and do it anyway”. A self-help tome I purchased when I was first contemplating an overseas retirement ten years ago.

Thanks again, I can see (more) clearly now.
