John, just curious -I see drinks are priced in USD. Are most of the bars near the base priced like that? I do not remember the bars in Seoul doing that.

It is worth it. Like the saying goes – better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.
To play a bit of devils advocate on Loraines behalf – while I dont think she handled it correctly, I can see where she is coming from. Like you (or me or pretty much everybody), she did not want to be alone. So yes, she could fool herself that she had no problems in being a caretaker and that was all the relationship had to offer, but the reality is that she did have feelings for you and looked into her future and did not like what she saw if she was truly remained a caretaker.
While maybe not the “biological clock” in this case, it was something similar.

Humans are, by nature, social animals. It is difficult NOT to form emotional attachments to others.
Good luck John. Things will get better!!

Agree with the above posters. I am not a very religious person, but I do like the thoughts behind the serenity prayer.
God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.» Posted By Brian On 19/October/2017 @ 12:01 am
«« Back To Stats PageLong time reader, but first time poster. John – we met a couple of times at Dolce Vida back in the day, though I am not a dart player, so usually was just keeping a seat warm at the bar.
Anyway, there is a saying that you cannot add time to the end of your retirement, only to the beginning.
It seems as though staying on the job is doing more harm than good. Realize that there may be financial, professional, etc. considerations at play here, but I think you have to ask yourself what you are gaining by staying in Korea for another seven months? Is what you will gain worth the trade off in a loss of seven months retirement?
Moving to the Phillipines may be just “what the doctor ordered”. 🙂
