Another day in paradise.
(Hopefully, the burning season will not exacerbate any lung issue. I dont think you have mentioned any issues in the past, so hopefully none this season either.)

When I see your blog post titles, I always try and figure which song you will include as your finale to the post. Guessed wrong today. I was thinking of the Chuck Berry song – “Reelin’ and a Rockin’ ”

Looked like a good meal, a good walk along the ridge and a good nightcap. Life is good!!

@Kevin has wise words, but I think that you realize that. You are pretty self aware and I am sure that you know what is causing these mini-dramas in your life. But, you don’t seem to have the inclination or willpower to fix it. Maybe the drama is something that in some perverse way you enjoy. Definitely makes things less boring.
Just thinking aloud below, so take no offense. Swam seems like a nice lady, and women generally want security in their life. She is quite a bit younger than you and the odds of her outliving you are pretty high. As you move forward in your relationship, are you thinking (or as she discussed) how she may be taken care of after you are gone? (Relatively) Easy for a lady to start anew in her 20’s and 30’s. Not so easy when she would be in her 50’s or 60’s. (Though she does seem to be close to her family, so maybe that would be her support)

All in all, a good day. Cant ask for much more.

Sounds like a pretty boring way to spend a shift. Just the fact that you have to be there and you do nothing, can make the time really drag.
So, did the McDonald’s meet expectations in regards to taste?

Enjoyed the shopping photo essay. Couple of questions/comments:
Would it be easier/cheaper to have one of those water dispensers and the 10(?) or maybe 5 gallon clear blue plastic jugs of water? Even in the small rural town in Indonesia where I worked, there was a water guy that came by my house once a week to keep me stocked.
$300/week on groceries. Realize that you buy a lot of imported things, but damn, seems high when you seem to eat your “main” meal outside the house most days. (Though I did see that you mentioned that you are purchasing for 4 people).
All in all, seems like another day in paradise!

Looks like Tiny Cunts place is kind of at the end of the road.

Interesting backstory to the video. I have heard of the song, but was not aware of any video.
As Kevin said, seems to be less drama in your life. Stability is not a bad thing.

John, i think your next purchase for Swan should be a small backpack. I would not think it was too comfortable lugging around a bag with string handles for a 7K walk. LOL

Not sure, I got the pun reference about the waitresses looking a bit horny (assuming it was a pun!). Something to do with the skirts they were wearing, but that just looked like a tropical motif. Maybe just a Biden like moment of mine.

“I get knocked down, but I get up again, you’re never gonna keep me down…”
Based on the above, I was willing to bet money that your song would be Tubthumping

How wrong I was. LOL
Re: Darts – How many games are you involved with during a match? You said that you lost two, but that was better than a forfeit, so I assume you participate in at least three?

Glad to heat that the nose job seems to be quite the success.
Re: walking along the National Highway. I am an against the traffic walker, but seeing Kevin’s comment, I am guessing that the hassle/danger in trying to cross over to the other side is not worth the short distance with a wider shoulder.
Re: Hospital – how long has it been closed? If it was open when you arrived, how did it compare to the one you went to?

John, glad to hear that things are pretty quickly getting back to normal.
Re: Kevins comment on your liver. Not sure what tests they can do, but probably not a bad idea to at least ask.
The Ben Franklin quote reminded me of the George Bernard Shaw quote (though I guess there is some debate on whether or not he was the originator) – “Youth is wasted on the young”

Glad things are going well. You are probably wondering to yourself why you didn’t get the polyps removed a long time ago.

Putting the cart before the whore
John, good post. Agree with most of your comments re: bargirls. It is easy for us to judge and say “why dont they just find a better job? Why dont they go back to school? etc”
Plenty of stories of girls who had to leave school because their parents could not afford the $10 tuition payment, or the $10 school uniform cost. I talked to one girl who left school in junior high. She was from a single parent household and her mom worked long hours doing whatever to support the family, and she was left on her own. Realized that if she didn’t go to school, nobody would care, and when you are 12 years old or so, a lot of kids would love the opportunity to play around all day and not go to school. At age 20, did she regret it? Absolutely!!! But, tough to go back at that point.
Re: would many girls leave the bar life if they could? I think they would. Anecdotally, I have heard that a lot of bars in Thailand have trouble recruiting girls because as the economy has grown, they can make just as much (or more) doing non-bar work.

You will look back in a few weeks and wonder why you were bitching. LOL
Glad to hear things are going as well as can be expected.

John – glad the initial surgery went well. Heres to a speedy recovery.

@Kevin, I wouldn’t say that buying lady drinks is charity, more akin to tips or commissions. Think of them as the equivalent of anybody who sells XXX (appliances, insurance, etc.) on commission. For a GRO, that is their job description. Get customers to buy drinks, get a commission.
If John (or you or I) have a choice between two “normal” restaurant and the food is equal between the two, but in one restaurant, the serving staff is surly and in the other, they are friendly and pleasant. Which one will get our business? There is an expectation when going into a sit down restaurant – not only on the food quality but also a minimum level of service.
Same with a bar that has GRO’s. Yeah, everybody realizes it is a game, but just like expecting a waitress in a “normal” restaurant to provide a certain level of service, there is an expectation of the GRO’s. The type of service (and job description) is different, but that is known to both the customer and server beforehand.
With the situation above, the GRO felt she could get a better “commission” from the other group rather than from John. Maybe a shortsighted view.
John – great pics. Especially like the last one. Looks like a painting.

@Kevin. LOL
John, you are kind of like Goldilocks with your bar crawl. “I popped into It Doesn’t Matter next. It was dead, so I had one beer and left. I tried Green Room, and it was too crowded for my tastes”. Need to find the spot that is “just right!!”
The only time I recall being under full anesthesia was having some surgery on my wrist after falling off a motorcycle. I remember waking up and feeling absolutely refreshed. Don’t know what it was or how the doctor did it, but it seemed like the best sleep I had ever had. Here’s hoping that your experience with both the surgery and anesthesia are the same.

Looks like a fun time. How far away is it from your neck of the woods?
» Posted By Brian On 03/December/2023 @ 5:14 am
Hmmm, I dont know. I dont think that there is a difference between where on your body you get fat. I think it is pretty much impossible to target fat in one part of the body and leave other parts unaffected.
(PS. Not a doctor nor do I play on on TV)

There are some people that function normally on very little sleep. Dont know if you remember the football player, Herschel Walker. I remember reading an article about him where he mentioned he only slept about 4 hours/day. Been like that since he was a little kid.
But you do say that you normally have a nap, correct? How long is that? Maybe those combined give you a more reasonable sleep time.

Re: tattoos
Saw a meme that said that anybody who has tattoos above the neck line probably never had a job that paid taxes. LOL
Sounds like a good day in paradise. Here’s to more of the same coming up.

Glad to hear that your health seems to have turned the corner.
You will be ready for the Easter Mtn. hill climb when it occurs next spring.
» Posted By Brian On 26/November/2023 @ 12:33 am
John,I agree with you on the lady drinks and your attitude about them. I have spent enough time in less developed countries to understand that buying a lady drink is akin to a tip in developed countries.

I have heard of people that have cracked a rib or two due to a heavy bout of coughing. Another thing to add that to the list of possible causes.
Having cracked a rib before (not due to coughing), the pain you are experiencing could be because of that.
Good luck!!

John, glad to hear the overall trend is in the positive direction.
I had an uncle who told me that every morning, he got together with his buddies for some coffee and an organ recital. Knowing that he didn’t play an instruments, I asked him what was up with that. He said that it was a chance to commiserate with each other about kidneys, liver, lungs, etc. i.e. the various organs. LOL
Anyway, I am sure that some days will seem like two steps forward and one step back (or the converse) but look at where you were a week ago.

Hope that the antibiotics work. Im with @Kevin on this. Doubtful that you would be cleared for surgery at the moment and I am guessing it will have to be postponed until the lung clears up.
Some K-dramas I recommend if you are looking for further viewing:
The Glory – a really really really dark series about a girl that is horrifically bullied in HS and is out for revenge as an adult.
Itaewon Class – Kind of a David vs. Goliath story about a small bar owner who gets screwed over by a big conglomerate and fights back.
Memories of Alhambra – A VR game is developed where the lines between reality and the game become blurred.
Crash Landed on You – Probably heard of this one. I think the biggest K-drama ever?
(I do a lot of indoor rowing and watch these while I row, and having to read subtitles requires focus (at least for me) and makes me somewhat forget about the exercise, so I have been watching ALOT of K dramas. LOL. All of the above were quite good I thought.)

I remember visiting Lincolns home in Springfield Illinois, and commenting to the guide on how short the bed was. She indicated that it was pretty normal back then that most people slept in a semi upright position, and most beds were not as long as what we see nowadays.
Here’s hoping that the antibiotics start moving things in the right direction!

«« Back To Stats PageKevin put my thoughts to words quicker than I did as he wrote:
“Anyway, if you see yourself on a road to recovery, well, that’s a good thing. Take it slow, keep at it, and get back into fighting shape.”Baby steps, do what Dr. Jo tells you to do, and you will be back to your normal hiking routines in no time!!
