Senate Showdown?

Powerline has some great info and insights on the two judges who will be brought for confirmation before the Senate.

So it will be interesting to see if the Democrats play the filibuster game again. There is no reason these judges should not be confirmed. The lies the Dems and media are spreading don’t hold up, and the debunking by Powerline of the CSM article is but the latest example.

No one has shown me one shred of evidence that these judges are not qualified to serve on the courts as desired by President.

  1. here to swallow my pride and admit I have let myself be lazy and mislead.

I got fed up with you talking about this and went out to get some facts to back up my claim that these judges would be horrible. What I found is that they are anti-socialist and anti-big government. I allowed myself to be lead to believe that they were anti-women’s reproductive rights. But, the only thing I could dig up is that they both have taken the hard line on parental notification bypass. That’s not really the end of the world.

So, I stand corrected on Brown and Owens. However, I did read enough to be scared of some others still.

  2. Thank you, Ashley. That’s what this is all about, making up your own mind. What the Dems are doing in blocking these judges is flat out wrong. And the media is playing along by willful misrepresentation of the facts.

  3. And that is the whole idea of the system, atleast it was at one time … for the judicial appointees to be reviewed, ‘discussed’ and then voted on.

If a bad judge gets through (due to one side strong-arming the other) the ‘weaker’ side has the ability to use that against the ‘stronger’ party and, if it is deemed important enough by the voters, the ‘stronger’ party becomes the ‘weaker’ party.

  4. Powerline has been doing a great job on this, I must admit (I’ve been pretty tough on them lately). Paul Mirengoff said something the other day that I said a couple of weeks ago, and I was surprised at that– that maybe we ought to let the Dems filibuster so the people can see what a blatantly partisan stunt it is, that it really has nothing to do with the judges’ qualifications.

And Ashley, good for you for taking the time to find out about them on your own. I wish more people would do the same.
