After a one-week hiatus, the Wednesday Walkers reconvened for an outing yesterday. Granted, it was flat and mostly paved, but it was good to get together once more on a 7K journey.

It rained again in the afternoon, but that didn’t stop us from heading out under umbrellas at beer o’clock. We confined ourselves to The Maze, visiting Sloppy Joe’s, Alaska, and Green Room. The usual good time was had, and then another day came to an end.
I’ve moved on to August 2009 in the journey through the LTG archives. I discovered that nearly all my posts were about politics (the Obamacare shit was hitting the fan) or darts. And you thought the content these days sucked! But the post about the farewell party for my pal Dave New was worthy of inclusion in The Story of My Life. Seeing the old Itaewon crew again in the photos made me once more realize how fleeting friendships truly are, at least they have been in my life. C’est la vie.
Coincidentally, I posted this three years ago on Facebook:

Welp, life’s a beach, so embrace it!

If you have a couple of minutes, this YouTube video from Smart Girl Philippines is worth your time. I thought it was funny how she says it’s always the woman’s fault. I will say her points about the “crab mentality” in Filipino culture are valid. I try to stay away from drama, but there is a fair amount of it currently taking place amongst the Hash womenfolk.
Time for a little humor (very little, some might say):

And now we are done for today.
For some reason, I posted a link to this song on Facebook ten years ago. I reckon it’s time to give it another listen:
Congrats on the group’s getting back together. Man, if I ever went to the Philippines, I’d buy a large, long-handle fishing net and a bunch of large garbage bags to start cleaning some of those places up. Hell, I keep thinking about doing that right here in Seoul.
Thirty-three is way too soon to go.
Like Jesus, according to tradition.
Seeing the old Itaewon crew again in the photos made me once more realize how fleeting friendships truly are…
Life itself is fleeting. Just one of those existential truths.

Do tell. (Or might you get in trouble?)
As for whether men aren’t the problem… I think most major problems come from a combination of maleness and authority, at least historically speaking. These days, with so many women in authority everywhere, we’re beginning to see similar abuses perpetrated by women. So maybe it’s not “maleness and authority” so much as it’s just the old wisdom that “power corrupts.”
Kev, the problem is that a one-man effort would make no difference–the trash would all be back the next day. I’ve had similar fantasies, but mine would be to start an NGO foundation that would feed and transport unemployed folks to a daily cleanup spot. I’d have a couple of Jeepneys for getting them there, a trash truck for hauling the litter away, and provide a fair daily salary of 500 pesos (more than most bar girls make). Another plus to my plan would be every time I get a plea for a “loan” to pay rent or utilities, I’d refer them to my NGO and let them earn it. Everybody’s a winner! I’ll get started once I win the lottery.
Yeah, life is fleeting, but friendships shouldn’t be. I know you’ve still got lifelong friends. I need to ask that man in the mirror WTF is going on.
Do tell. (Or might you get in trouble?)
I stay out of it as much as I can. A couple of the gals have turned on Swan, and she says she doesn’t know why. Then, we had a Hash couple’s relationship end, and he started dating another Hash female. That caused some sparks. Anyway, if it wasn’t one thing, it would be another.
Yes, women have proven they are as big an asshole as men when given the power to do so. Shit, can you imagine our world now if Hillary had been elected? Yikes!
