I just can’t seem to get things right these days.
Well, at least my pot roast turned out.
Now, where do I find the recipe for a successful relationship?

I’m not seeing a mess. The roast looks great.
As for relationships, here’s an insidious thought: what if women, who are known for their intuitions, can smell your intense need to be in a relationship and are turned off by what they interpret as dependency/neediness? Maybe it’s time to put the No Fucks Given hat on and see what happens. Bruce Lee is quoted as saying “Try softer,” the opposite of “try harder,” in the book Zen in the Martial Arts by Joe Hyams (he’s a screenwriter and the ex-husband of actress Elke Sommer). Success isn’t always about striving urgently toward a focused goal; sometimes, you just have to let go and allow things to happen of their own accord. With one eye always on the goal, you only have one eye left with which to find the way.
Please keep in mind that the above is merely spitballing. In all honesty, I don’t have a fucking clue. I never do when it comes to relationships. I’m mainly going by things you’ve written on your fascinating—sometimes morbidly fascinating—blog.
(…maybe Hyams should’ve called it Zen in the MARITAL Arts…)
Yeah, no one likes a man who reeks of desperation. Pretty sure that was my problem in Korea. It’s a little different here because I do encounter opportunities, just not the right opportunities. And as I’ve written about before the ones I am attracted to don’t seem to reciprocate. Anyway, I think your advice about just relaxing and letting things happen in due course is spot on.
Look for a post coming soon about my current situation in this regard.
Regarding your cooking exploits – have you looked into buying an InstaPot? Maybe the next trip back to the US. Kind of doubt it is available in the PI, but you never know. It is a glorified pressure cooking, but can do pretty much anything – slow cook, pressure cook, make rice, make yoghurt, etc etc.
Brian, funny you should mention that…just saw a friend’s post about making his pulled pork in an InstaPot. Sounds like it would be a good fit for me. I’ll check around. Thanks for the heads up!
