flying in Tuesday night and heading to work Monday morning? you’re one tough cookie. I’ve made that flight across the pacific maybe a dozen times and I can’t function for the first two days after landing. eighth army should give you a medal. anyhow, for what it’s worth, I flew japan air to korea back in the eighties on a 747 and it was enjoyable. if nothing else, you’ll have some hot Asian flight attendants to look at. safe travels my friend!

Korean women are the hottest Asians. I might be a little biased since I have a yobo but I base my opinion on the fact that when I wandered the streets of the morning calm, my head, (and I’m talking about the one between my shoulders) ,was continually spinning like chucky from the movies. I would love to see a return of yoja of the week. if that’s not possible then how about yoda of the week—may the force be with you!

yeah, the russkies and French want to get on board the ant-terrorism train. where the hell were they last year or the year before that or the year before that. oh, don’t worry, America will take care of things. I’m sick and tired of the united states trying to save the world alone. there may have been a time that we could save the world alone but that time is loooong gone. we have to save ourselves .at this point. every supposed multinational action involves hundreds of thousands of American troops and a handful of our allies. while we rebuild the infrastructure of Iraq and Afghanistan our bridges crumble and our national debt climbs to numbers that are unimaginable. I’m done ranting. soju time. trump 4 president!

love the map of Columbia. I was actually passing through yesterday on my way back to Georgia after some r&r in the blue ridge mountains. seems like a nice city although my experience is limited to the view from I-26. my only other interaction with Columbia was back in the late 70’s I did boot camp at fort Jackson. enjoy the rest of your weekend john.

john, all the great writers had “writers block” including mark twain and my favorite,ernest hemingway. now, you may say that you are not a writer, but you are, my brother. had twain or hemingway had internet access believe me they would have been blogging. hate it when you downplay your writing such as when you say, “well if you come here looking for quality you are surely used to being disappointed by now”. never disappointed and always leave with a smile on my face. love the honesty you display and the dedication because I know that there are times you are too tired to blog but do. thanx!

great post from 2009!. now, I have some first-hand knowledge of the subject. in 1986 I was a young 20-something sergeant stationed at camp Humphreys. the ville outside the gate was anjung-ri and was loaded with clubs. I was like the proverbial ‘kid in a candy store”. at that time the clubs were open all night. many a time I literally went from the clubs or a working girls hooch to physical training, (pt) formation at 0-dark-thirty. there were no Russian or Filipina girls. all- Korean-all the time. as you know john, Korean women are the finest Asian girls in this world. duffy’s was my favorite but there were others that I enjoyed like maxim, seven and tophat .when you left post there was a sign by the walk-thru gate that said, “wrap that rascal”. at the status-of forces-agreement(sofa) clubs the girls were required to undergo weekly vd checks. they carried a card that indicated their status via a stamp. if the stamp was red ,”don’t take her to bed and if blue it’s up to you”, was the saying. there was no exploitation nor do I think there is today. the only exploitation I saw was the young private from Nebraska who was used by a slick bar girl to pay all her bills. also known as yobo payments. what has changed john is that now we live in a politically-correct(pc) world. this pc world is killing America and the military as well.

It’s better to be lucky than good
brings back memories. john, I had a chemistry set with REAL chemicals that would have made any mad scientist envious. my sister had the easy-bake-oven which included 3rd-degree burns. my dad would come home from his night shift at the refinery and give us a box of donuts loaded with trans-fats for breakfast. mind you that this is before ambulance-chasing tort lawyers. gawd, how I miss them days.

john, more often than not I drink alone. not that I don’t prefer the company but it is the issue of dui. I could go to a restaurant with friends, have a few beers with my meal and get jacked-up by law enforcement on the way home. with regard to dui we have gone from one extreme to the other. I know that korea is no different. several years ago when back in the rok I was with my brother-in-law at a toll booth on the highway and the cops made him blow in a breathalyzer. man, I miss the days when I was stationed in korea. in the 80’s and 90’s me and my buds would “go downrange” or make a ” ville run” as we called it and get hammered. no car-no problem. so consider yourself lucky to be without a pov and having access to public transportation. let me leave you with these words by George thorogood and the Delaware destroyers, “the other day I got invited to a party but I stayed at home instead-just me and my pal johnny walker and his brothers black and red-and we drank alone, yeah with nobody else-yeah, you know when I drink alone I prefer to be by myself.

john, I remember this post. first of all, your yobo looks absolutely gorgeous in this picture you lucky guy. secondly, you could be a stand-in on the hbo series the sopranos. I’m not sure if you are familiar with the show but I was a devotee. I grew up in northern new jersey in the area where they filmed and you look like mafia with that suit and tie. you could easily fill inn for pauly walnuts.. that’s a compliment my brother.

happy anniversary john. I’ve followed this blog since your days of living in itaewon and working at yongsan garrison. I stumbled upon your site quite by accident while looking at the rokdrop website. I find that you have a way with words and appreciate your honesty.
